SUMMARY OF REPORT
In the family of Mrs. Maganga there is no any inherited health condition, the family
located from Mwembeni Hamlet in Misegese Village.
It is family of six members. I assessed the following health condition, houses, dietary
practice, sanitation, water supply, food storage, communication, sources of income and
family planning
The general environment sanitation, waste disposal practice and unsafe water use, due to
poor environmental sanitation, waste disposal, and the family member are at risk to get
the following disease like diarrhea, malaria, typhoid, cholera and water born disease
Therefore I tried to set priority to health problem identified to the family of Mrs.
Maganga by involving the family members on how to solve their health condition related
to poor environment sanitation
Also I advised family members to dig the pit for waste disposal and tell the importance
of environment sanitation in relation to their health.

FAMILY HEALTH ASSESSMENT
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of conducting family health assessment is to recognize health problem which are
present in the family and solving immediately by involving the family member and provide
education and advice related to health issue
On 08 June 2025 at 11:30am,I visited the family of Mrs Maganga at Misegese village. I
welcomed with Veronica Ferus (the mother of the family) and we shared greetings each other
I introduced my self to wife of Mr Maganga in-order to get cooperation during family
assessment, she prepared chair near by the house and sit down and i started to assess the family
by asking the questions in-order to identify the health problem facing the family.

TYPE OF HOUSE
The family of Mrs Maganga have Semi-Permanent house which made up with blocks,soil and It
consist of three rooms, one used as store of crops and home supplies another room for sleeping.

The houses have no good ventilation because the window are too small which can not allow air
to pass free from one side to another, due to that the family at risk to get air born disease such as
tuberculosis and meningitis.
Advice
I provided the advice to the family of Mr Maganga about to build permanent house with
large window which may allow air to pass free in order to prevent family from air born disease
SANITATION
cleanliness
The environment of Mr and Mrs Maganga’s family is not clean because there is a long grasses
around the house and they do not have pit rubbish and sweeping the grasses and collect near the
house without burning
Advice
Encouraged the family members to construct pit for waste disposal in order to prevent family
from eruption of disease.

USE OF TOILET
The family of Mr and Mrs Maganga use semi permanent toilet,. they do not have hand washing
facilities after visiting the toilet, due to that the family members they are prone to acquire fecal
oral route diseases for example diarrhea
Advice
I encourage the family members to prepare place for hand washing facility for cleaning their
hands after using the toilet in order to be free from fecal oral route disease.

WASTE DISPOSAL PRACTICE
According to assessment have been conducted it show that the family of Mr and Mrs
Maganga have no pit for waste disposal

ADVICE
I advices the family members to dig the pit rubbish and educate on proper management of waste
product in order to reduce risk of acquire diseases.

WATER SUPPLY
Source
The family of mr and mrs Maganga depend on tap and deep wells water
Accessibility
Water is avalable but does not fullfil the needs of the community there is few numbers of tap and
deep wells compered to the total population of Misegese village
SAFE AND WATER TREATMENT METHOD
The family of mr Maganga have no tendence of treating and boiling water before use there for
they drinking unsafe water due to that the family members prone to aquire water born disease
Advice
I encouraged the family member to prepare safe drinking water by boiling and filter water
inorder to make family free from infection
DIETARY PRACTICE FOR DIFFERENT GROUPS
The family of Mr and Mrs Maganga use different type of food forexamples cabohydrate
such as cassava,bannana rice and ugali,protein such as fish ,meat and beans, vegetable such as
spinach, cabbage and fruit ,minerals and lipids which help the family member to build up their
health and increase imunity
Quality
The family of Mr Maganga has a tendence of preserve food which used for whole
year,they eat three time per day,morning they take breakfast with sweat potatoes but some time
with food which remain at night,afternoon ugali with fish some time with green vegetable,and at
night eat rice with beans or fish,mrs cook ¾ kg of ugali and 1kg of rice at night and its enough
to the member of the family because they eat and satisfy their needs.
The food eaten to the family of Mr Maganga is good but have low quality because daily they eat
ugali and rice that make them to get the same nutrient every day and lack some other nutrients
required by the body for nourishment.
Advice
I advised the family member according to resource available about eating balance diety
which contain seven types of food inorder to build their body and to be with good health.

Palatability of food eaten
The family member eat food wich is palatable because every member of the family enjoy
when eating food and fullfil their needs every day.
SOURCE OF INCOME
The family of Mr and Mrs Maganga depend on Agriculture activitise as source of
income in the family,they cultivate maize and paddy,after harvesting the paddy some are used for
food and remain for buisness to get money inorder to meet their basic needs such as shelter and
clothes.
COMMUNICATION
Availability of radio
In the family of Mr and Mrs Maganga the source of communication used is radio and cellphone.
The family has no television which can help them to watch different information and
events found in the country and out side the country and get different advertisment about healthy
issue.
Newspaper
There is no availability of newspaper in the family of Mr Maganga.
Telephone facility
The family use only telephone as a type of communication and exchange the information in the
family and other member in the community,but mother and father have a phone that means of
communication.
Advice
I was encourage the family to have other source of communication for example radio which can
help them to get different information.
FOOD STORAGE
The family of mr and mrs Maganga store their food by artificial for example maize are preserved
in special sac which contain chemical which affect the insect fail to destroy the maize and to be
good for future use,that method is good because food are preserved for long period at time
without to be destroyed and remain in its quality.

FAMILY HEALTH
Disease
According to story provided by Mrs Maganga as the mother of the family said that``there is no
identified chronic health condition rather than season health condition common cold,urinary tract
infection(UTI) and malaria.
Advice
I educated family members about source of disease in the community forexample malaria by
provide health education on the causes,effects,treatment,complication, prevention and control
like use of insectside treated net and slashing grassess around the house that can help to destroy
the habitant of mosquitoes, also tell the family about envoronment sanitation.
Family health care seeking behaviour
In the family has a tendence of going to hospital to seek for health services at Malinyi district
hospital if the family member have health problem.
Health related practice
In the family pregnant mother are not allowed to conduct heavy work and after delivery mother
get time for breastfeeding her baby and provide diet rich in protein in order to make her health
and facilitate the production of milk for breasfeeding her baby,also they use family planning
method inorder to get the number of children they want in specific interval of three years. FAMILY

EVALUATION
After the advice and counseling in the family which I visited during my field practice,
I tried to make follow up in this family of Mr. and Mrs.salim according to the implementation
which I performed it seems that the advice has been understood as evidenced with follows:
The family has managed to boil water as the means of water treatment.
The family started to perform proper waste disposal and good environmental sanitation

I advised the family members to boil and filter water before drinking to avoidwater
borne diseases
