Course Brief
Environmental Pollution is one of the core courses for the students of Environment now days. As
the development in science advances, we can understand better that the key to the nature,
occurrence, prevention and control of a disease lies in the environment itself. Therefore it is
important to maintain the environmental Quality of air, water and soil so that human health and
the ecology should not be disturbed. For this reason, types, sources, effects and remedial
meanings of pollution should be identified. In addition to the above three (air, water, soil) there
are also some other factors which directly affect human health and ecology and their study is also
evilly important i.e. noise pollution, radioactive pollution, solid waste, eco-toxicology and
occupational health.
Course Objectives
1. To find out the factors affecting human health and ecology.
2. To determine the sources types causes, effects and remedial measures of different types
of pollution.

Details of the Course

Unit no. 1 defines that environmental pollution defies territorial boundaries.
Unit no. 2 explains in detail about air pollution, its classification and types. Also chapter discusses
the effects if air pollution on human health and the issues to control of it.
Unit no. 3 describes the matter of water pollution and major sources of marine pollution.
Unit no. 4 elucidates the effects of noise pollution on human health in detail.
Unit no. 5 describes the biological effects of radioactive pollution and describes the famous
incidents of radioactive pollution.

Unit no. 6 helps to understand the composition along with the physical and chemical
characteristics of solid waste pollution.

Unit no. 7 explains the major routed of contamination of land and types of soil pollution.
Unit no. 8 focuses on the scope of eco-toxicology with importance of biological monitoring in
occupational health.
Unit no. 9 gives a detailed description of occupational hazards and diseases caused in man.

This course will, therefore, inculcate comprehensive information on interrelated disciplines including
environmental pollution, health and toxicology.

Assignments
The course includes two assignments, which are compulsory for successful completion of the
whole course. Each assignment is of 100 marks and out of these students obtaining 50 marks will
be declared passed.
Assignment no. 1 and 2 are theory based assignments and must submit through online Aaghi
LMS portal before the due date. The schedule of submitting the assignment will be provided
accordingly. The tutor will upload the assignment marks online on the Aaghi portal as well.
Final Examination
At the end of the semester there will be a final examination, all the students will be expected to
take this examination in the examination halls especially established for this purpose. For any
queries, you can write to the course / program coordinator. Suggestions for improvement will
also be welcomed.
We wish you all the best.
