Sports Committee

About the Sports Committee:

The Sports Committee at IIM Shillong is responsible for organizing and managing both inter-college
and intra-college sports events. We encourage students to take part in competitive sports as well as
recreational activities. Our goal is to help students learn new sports, improve their skills, and enjoy the
spirit of sportsmanship.

One of our biggest events is the IIM Shillong Golf Cup. This is an annual event that brings in top
business leaders (C-suite executives), defence officers, bureaucrats, and ministers from across the
country. IIM Shillong is the only B-school in India to host such a unique and high-profile golf
tournament.

The Golf Cup is a great opportunity to build strong relationships with companies and industry leaders,
as golf is known for being a powerful networking platform.

Your Task:

You have to create a complete business model for the IIM Shillong Golf Cup.
Your model should be inspired by successful sports leagues like the Indian Premier League (IPL) and
should focus on making the event sustainable and profitable in the long run.

Task Objectives:

• Make a detailed business plan for the IIM Shillong Golf Cup

• Suggest multiple ways to earn revenue

• Design a strong marketing and promotion plan

• Plan operational logistics (how the event will be managed)

• Provide financial projections and budgeting details

Team Formation:

This is a group task. You will work in teams (team size and formation details will be shared
separately).

What Your Business Model Should Include:

1. Introduction and Context:

• Write a short overview of the IIM Shillong Golf Cup

• Explain why this event is important and what makes it special

2. Task Objective:

• Clearly mention that your goal is to build a business model like successful sports leagues
(e.g., IPL)

3. Revenue Streams:

• Suggest ideas for ticket pricing


• List possible sponsors and partners

• Propose options for selling merchandise

• Explore media rights and broadcasting deals

4. Marketing and Promotion:

• Make a branding and positioning plan

• Design a digital marketing strategy.

• Suggest ways to involve the local community and students

5. Operational Logistics:

• Share a step-by-step plan for organizing and managing the event

• Decide and describe how to select and prepare the venue

• Make a security and crowd management plan

6. Financial Projections:

• Prepare a detailed budget with expected revenues and expenses

• Do a break-even analysis (when the event starts making profit)

• Make revenue and expense projections

Deliverables:

1. Excel Sheet

• Submit a detailed Excel file with all the financial planning and calculations

2. PowerPoint Presentation

• Submit a 6-slide presentation (excluding the introduction and thank you slide)

• Make sure it includes all the points mentioned above

3. Teaser Video for the Golf Cup

• Short and exciting video to promote the event and build interest (30 sec – 60 sec)

4. Invite Poster for CXOs

• Professionally designed invite poster to be sent to top executives and dignitaries

I. Zip all the above deliverables into a single folder and follow the naming convention
below.
II. Add individual contributions on the introduction slide in the ppt.
