The trunk of every tree in this wood is shaped like a spiral.
No one knows why the trees here grow this way, though the
most common explanation is that some ancient, evil creature
died here and its essence pollutes the soil, twisting the trees
that grow in it.
Many claim to have spotted dead things - skeletons and
zombies, mostly - emerging from the forest from time to time,
and will-o'-wisps are known to float about its edges on dark
nights attempting to lure travelers to their doom.

well, as any good bought or sold are free of taxation and
regulation by the Court. A loose, egalitarian group of traders
and captains run an ad-hoc military in times of crises, but
otherwise, no single person or group is in control. It is often
said that if you cannot find the thing you are looking for here,
it simply does not exist.

vary according to the tide, from a deep red at low tide to vivid

light from the reef as a safe shore.

Necromantic Catacombs (176, 60)
Rising from the shallow water are a number of stone and
marble blocks and broken columns. Further inspection reveals
a small temple that once stood here before sinking into the
murk. A good portion of it lies below the surface, hidden by
the water and reeds.
This ruined temple was corrupted by a necromancer, who fell
prey to her own dark magic and lurks below.
A successful investigation reveals that this temple was built
centuries ago to serve the divine requirements of its flock. At
some point, however, the temple was captured by a
necromancer, who used it as a base to perform her vile
experiments, toying with the distinction between life and
death. Eventually, whether by divine intervention or by natural
causes, the water levels rose to swallow the defamed temple.
Its submerged chambers still hold the treasure of the long-
forgotten necromancer as well as the remnant of her undead
flock.
The temple was originally built of local marble and stone,
aligned with the axis of the zodiac. The stone foundation
measured seventy feet by fifty feet, and rose to a height of ten
feet. The temple rested atop that platform, and was accessible
from a series of steps that rose from each side. Upon the
platform, the marble temple was ringed with a number of
columns that created an open portico and supported an
elaborately carved architrave. Entrance to the temple was
through a twenty-foot tall set of iron doors, long since rusted
and lost.
Inside, the main chamber once held a statue to some fertility
god. Only her throne and the upper portion of her hips survive,
crumbled into the murk and submerged. Behind the statue still
exists the stairwell that took priests down to their living
quarters and prayer areas. This area, completely submerged,
is a series of small rooms off a square corridor that wraps
around beneath the foundation. Within these chambers, the
animated skeletons of local residents still burn with unholy
hate and will attack anyone who enters their watery grave
with rusted weaponry or sharp claws.
Within the various rooms can be found an array of items,
ranging from divine implements, mundane items, to
gemstones, old coins, and a few magic items. Clutching the
unrecognizable holy symbol of her god, the necromancer
herself still dwells within; reduced to a simple animated
skeleton, cursed to stalk these drowned corridors for eternity.

Pyramid (139, 83)

The six giant steps of this pyramid reach a towering two
hundred feet tall at its apex. The light reflected from its white-
plastered walls makes it visible to travelers from miles away.
Built of local limestone, this pyramid has seen better days.
Upon close inspection, the plaster facade is rapidly
deteriorating, and the limestone bricks, once meticulously
placed, have fractured, and tumbled to the plain below. The
remains of an inscription on the exterior marks it as the
Gnomish tomb of a long-forgotten Magnate. A dried-up
riverbed nearby speaks to this location as having been a part
of a larger settlement at some point in the past.
An open entrance, measuring fifteen feet wide by thirty feet
tall leads into a passageway lined with limestone pillars.
Several small daises on either side have been looted of the
statuary that once stood upon them. Evidence of people
recently dwelling here is abundant due to the fire pits and
refuse strewn about. At the far end of the long passageway,
where doors to the internal structure of the tomb once was,
the ceiling has collapsed preventing entry. The remnants of
wooden beams and broken metal fixtures bears evidence to at
least one attempt to penetrate the temple's mysteries, but
thus far, all such attempts seem to have failed.

The Crying Face (85, 46)

This limestone cliff is shaped like a skull, and two waterfalls
pour forth from its eye.
Every day at almost exactly noon, thousands of gallons of
super-heated water and steam spray forth from two large
holes in this cliff. The water is heated by hydrothermic vents
deep in the rock. The two holes from which the water sprays
are remarkably similar in size, and are nearly level with each
other. With this in mind, someone a long time ago sculpted the
surrounding cliff face to resemble an agonized human face.

The Mirror (143, 63)

The surface of this salt flat is a natural - and almost perfect -
mirror.
This flat, nearly two miles across, is covered in the finest salt
crystal powder, and reflects light like a mirror.
From far away the effect, creates superbly-detailed mirages,
especially at dawn and dusk. Up close, depending upon the
angle at which the viewer views the flat, the reflected light is
intense enough to permanently blind someone, or quickly
roast a cut of meat laid upon its surface.

The Sphere (24, 29)

Measuring 300 feet across and floating just above the ground,
this perfectly mirrored sphere seems impervious to any
probing.
Ten years ago, a farmer struck this object with a shovel while
digging a well. It attracted the attention of scholars of all
kinds, who excavated a huge pit around the sphere. For nearly
five years, people camped here, trying to penetrate the
mysterious surface, scry through it, or even scratch it with
tools or magic.
No one has ever been able to affect it in any way at all, and
over time, those excited scholars departed. Even the farmer
left eventually, and now the sphere hovers in the pit, not
interacting with anything at all.
