What is speech writing or writing a speech? message to the audience through words.
Speech writing isn't much different than
essay writing. But if you follow the basic
guidelines and proper speech format, you
can easily write a great speech that will
leave the audience with something good to
think about.
Writing a speech is the most crucial thing to
do. Here are some principles for speech
writing preparation.
1. Choosing the subject and the
topic.
By the way class what it is on your
mind when we say Choosing the It means ma’am we as a writer we are
subject of your topic? going to choose first the subject and the
topic when we are writing.

broad area of knowledge you need to
cluster different topic of your

attitudes, preferences, cultural and
racial ideologies, and needs)
Gathering materials and supporting ideas
3. Sourcing information in writing a speech.
There are several different types of
sources that may be relevant for your
speech topic. Those include
periodicals, newspapers, books,
reference tools, interviews, and
websites. It is important that you
know how to evaluate the credibility
of each type of source material.
The purpose- for writing and
delivering the speech it can be
classified into three- to inform, to Informative speech- provides the
entertain and to persuade. audience with clear understanding of the
concept or idea presented by the speaker.
Entertainment speech- speech provides
the audience with amusement.
Persuasive speech- provides the audience
with well-argued ideas that can influence
their own beliefs and decisions.
It is your focal point of your speech, which
The topic can be determined once you have decided
on your purpose.
Yes class, if you are free to decide
on your topic, choose one that really
interests you. There is variety of
strategies used in selecting a topic.
Such as using your personal
experiences, discussing with your
family members or friends, free

semantic webbing.

Selecting a topic can also be used
when you narrow down a topic.

you collect ideas, information,
sources, and references relevant or
related to the topic.

will help you organize the ideas
related to your topic.
Ex: Biographical,
Categorical/topical, Casual,
Chronological, Comparison/Contrast
and Problem solution.
An outline- It is a hierarchical list
that shows the relationship of your
ideas. Good outlines helps you see
that all the ideas are in line with your
main idea or message. The element
of an outline includes:

your speech.

examples that can help you deliver
your purpose and explain the main
idea of your speech.

of your speech.

1. Edit for focus
2. Edit for clarity
3. Edit for concision
4. Edit for continuity
5. Edit for variety
6. Edit for impact and beauty
Rehearsing- gives you the
opportunity to identify what works
and what does not work for you and
for your target audience.
Some Guidelines in Speech Writing:
1. Keep your words short and simple.
2. Avoid jargon, acronyms, or technical
words.
