Japanese Levels

(1) There are seven levels of the Okayama University Japanese Language Courses, from
level 1 (elementary) to level 7 (advanced). Students who have studied Japanese before
must take a placement test in order to enter a class at the most appropriate level.

Elementary Level 1 0-30
Level 2 31-47
Intermediate Level 3 48-58
Level 4 59-68
Level 5 69-74
Advanced Level 6 75-82
Level 7 83-100
*As of the beginning of Term 1 and Term 3 registration

(2) As a general rule, please take Japanese classes at your level. If you register for the
classes that does not match your level, your credits will not be recognized. Please refer
to pages 6-9 for the timetable of each level.

(3) In the following cases, please take a placement test before the beginning of Term 1
or Term 3.
1) You failed a level but want to advance to the next level
2) You would like to advance two or more levels
3) If you took the Japanese Language Course classes a year or more ago but do not
know your current Japanese level

(4) If the level determined by your placement results is too difficult and you wish to change
to a lower level, please talk to the instructor in charge of the class.
