Introduction
To those who have been conditioned to believe that the only way to overcome
ill-health and disease is through western or so-called ‘traditional’ medicine,
‘alternative’ therapies might seem too ethereal or even unscientific.

However, more and more research is proving what anecdotal reports have
long claimed – that the claims of alternative therapies effectiveness is largely
based on fact.

This is not meant in any way to disparage the advances for human health and
wellbeing that have been gained by the medical profession generally.

However, more and more within that profession are expanding their beliefs
beyond the twin pillars of surgery and pharmacology.

Many traditional doctors recognize the value of particular therapies for specific
problems and appreciate that the different therapies can support one another.

One alternative therapy which is highly appreciated by those who have felt its
healing effects is Reiki. This report explains what Reiki is, what it does and how
it can benefit you.

What Is Reiki and How Does it Work?

Reiki is a healing technique that is safe and completely non-invasive. It is a


form of energy therapy that can be used to relieve many health issues.

Reiki comes from the word “rei,” which means the higher intelligence that
pervades in all living and nonliving things. Proponents of Reiki also believe that
this “rei” serves as a platform in the essential functioning of the entire
universe.

The word “ki” is a Japanese term used to refer to nonphysical energy that is
present in every living thing. The term “ki” means “life force energy,” which is
also popularly known as “qi” or chi by people from other lineages. When put
together, the word “Reiki” means life force energy that’s spiritually guided.

How Does Reiki Work?

During a Reiki session, the practitioner channels their life force energy through
their own hands into the patient. A Reiki master or practitioner places their
hands on the patient’s problem area and gives it an energy boost. This
channeling of the practitioner’s energy into the patient allows the spiritual
guidance to flow for healing.

The patient’s health issues will be charged with positive energy. This increases
the vibratory level of the energy field in that specific area, which causes the
negative energy to be shattered and dissipated.

As a result, the negative energy which causes confusion, anxiety, sadness,


stress, and any physical pain will begin to be removed, and the energy
pathways that have been cleared will be replaced with positive energy.

Human beings continue to live because of the life force that’s constantly
flowing through them. This life force flowing within us goes through the body’s
chakras, nadis, and meridians which are all energy pathways. Additionally, the
energy flowing around our body goes through the aura pathways.

How Does This Life Force Help in Healing?

Reiki practitioners believe that this life force plays a role in nourishing the
different organs and cells of the body to ensure proper functioning in these
areas. However, when the flow of energy in these areas is disrupted, that body
part’s functioning will also be adversely affected.

The same life force is known to be responsive to a person’s feelings, thoughts,
and emotions. If the person accepts and allows negative thoughts and feelings
to penetrate their psyche, the flow of life energy is also adversely affected.

The person undergoing the therapy may find themselves immediately feeling
relief from their symptoms, whether it be stress or something else.

The primary aim of the entire Reiki session is to help an individual move and
balance the flow of energy that’s within and around them. The second aim is to
remove the energy blocks in order to strengthen their energy levels and
jumpstart the body’s healing process.

All throughout the session, an individual may find themselves experiencing a


tingling sensation or increased feelings of warmth or coolness. Others say they
feel a deeper sense of relaxation. Some people say they don’t feel anything
physical at all, but this doesn’t mean that the power of Reiki therapy isn’t
working for them.

The Five Principles of Reiki
There are five principles that the originator of Reiki, Dr. Mikao Usui, considered
to be the secret to living a happy and healthy life. He considered these
principles as medicine because a happy heart is where positive thoughts,
feelings and emotions emanate.

This leaves no room for anger, hatred and other negative emotions that
instead trigger the development of many diseases. He also realized that his
therapy worked so much better if the patient did some positive healing of their
own by accepting responsibility for their own health and wellbeing.

These Are the Five Reiki Principles

• Just for today, I will not worry.


• Just for today, I will not be angry.
• Just for today, I will be grateful.
• Just for today, I will work with diligence.
• Just for today, I will be kind to people.

If you are engaging in Reiki sessions for healing, follow these five principles
each day to ensure your Reiki sessions work more effectively.

Principle #1 - Just for Today, I Will Not Worry

This principle encourages a person to remain calm amidst chaos, pressure and
tension. If you defuse your worry, you are less likely to find yourself suffering
from the ill effects of stress. Adherence to this principle greatly protects you
from becoming a victim of stress.

Remember that chronic stress is powerful and can degrade your emotional
health, spirit and soul. It can damage every aspect of your physical wellbeing.
Today you will not allow yourself to be worried about anything. You will
therefore find it easier to regain balance between your mind, body and soul.

Principle #2 - Just for Today, I Will Not Be Angry

Getting angry is one of the results of being affected by stress. This second Reiki
principle is easier to gain control of once you’ve learned to master the first
principle. Anger is a standalone emotion that can be triggered by something
negative.

Once you are able to control your tendency to worry, you will be better able to
handle other negative emotions. However, you must keep in mind that while
anger is also a normal human emotion, it’s just that you don’t want anger to
take control of you.

If you do, it will taint your spirit and block your capacity to accept love and
other good things to enter your life.

Principle #3 - Just for Today, I Will Be Grateful

There is something about expressing gratitude that positively affects an


individual’s life in all aspects. Numerous studies have proven that being
grateful allows people to lead happier lives. Be thankful for your employment,
your children, your friends, your loved ones, for the blue sky you can see, and
the music you can hear. Be grateful for everything that you have and that is
around you.

When you’re grateful, even just for today, you will notice a huge difference in
how it positively impacts the rest of your day.

Principle #4 – Just for Today, I Will Work with Diligence

This principle calls people to observe integrity in their daily lives. Honesty must
be observed, but not just in the workplace. Being honest at work also means
being honest with yourself.

Today, focus on observing honesty and integrity in everything that you do, no
matter how trivial or how insignificant it may be. As a result, you will find
yourself functioning optimally, and you will also see improvement in your
levels of production.

Principle #5 - Just for Today, I Will Be Kind to People

Showing kindness will come more easily if you have learned to master principle
number three – to be grateful. When your heart is filled with gratitude, you
can’t help but be kind to others.

If you are grateful, you appreciate those around you and kindness comes easily
every day. Showing kindness also brings significant benefits to your self-image
and your integrity. If you are genuinely kind, the benefits can be profound.

Reiki Practitioners Are NOT Doctors

like, you can play soft music. Now you have your special place, take off your
shoes and get ready to begin.

Start with a Simple Body Scan

One of the best ways to perform self-healing Reiki is to do a simple body scan.
Do this with your eyes closed. Imagine energy flowing through your hands
towards your body. This energy is healing energy for which you are grateful.

As you place your hands-on certain areas of your body carefully examine the
sensations that you experience. Notice the areas holding tension, thereby
blocking the flow of this positive energy.

Start your body scan from the tip of your toes and slowly work upwards until
you reach the top of your head or your crown. The aim of this simple body scan
is to increase your awareness of the sensations that occur in the different
areas of your body.

Allow yourself to experience any feelings.

Don’t try to change anything - just observe and let it be.

Important Areas of the Body

Pay extra attention to laying hands on the crucial areas of your body such as
over your breast bone. Underneath it lies your thymus gland that is responsible
for producing T-cells that play a role in the body’s immune system functioning.
These T-cells fight against invading bacteria, viruses and other disease-causing
microorganisms.

Also, the top of your head. Put your hands on top of your head, with your
fingertips on your crown area and at the same time place your palms near your
ears.

Stay Focused and Relaxed

During the initial scan, make a mental note of the specific areas that may need
further attention. When performing Reiki, breathe in easily and make the
entire session as relaxing as you can.

It is also good to just focus on your breathing as you perform different hand
positions on various parts of your body. When you’re focusing on your
breathing, you are less likely to be distracted by negative or stressful thoughts
that may sabotage the healing process.

Many people find it more effective to practice Reiki after waking up early in the
morning. Don’t invoke stress with unrealistic expectations, just relax. It doesn’t
matter how long you do it for.

As the Reiki experts attest, it doesn’t matter how much time is spent. It is
