"Static"

Genre: Sci-fi / Thriller

Eli's radio never worked right. In a world run by sleek digital


screens and silent communication, he clung to the old analog
thing.

On Monday, it spoke.

"Don’t go to work."

He stared at it. The voice was warbled, female, familiar. He


unplugged it.

Tuesday morning, it hissed again.

"Not safe. Trust no one at Virex."

His job was at Virex — a biotech firm doing top-secret neural


research.

He ignored it… until his badge wouldn’t work. Until no one at


work made eye contact.

Until the janitor mouthed, "Get out."

That night, the radio was clear.

"They’re mapping you. Tracking through the implants."

He ran.

Days later, the news broke: illegal brainwave harvesting at Virex.


Dozens detained. One employee missing.

Back in his cabin, Eli thanked the voice.

On Wednesday, it spoke once more:


"You’re welcome. Now it’s your turn."
