David's hat Circular needle Method:

Using 3.75mm circular needle cast on 88 stitches


Work in knit 1, purl 1 rib for 5 inches.
Increase 2 stitches evenly on the last row - 90 stitches

Change to 4mm circular needle and continue in pattern:

 (purl 2, knit 4) repeat to end of round.


 (purl 2, knit 1) repeat to end of round.

Work until hat measures 9½ inches from cast on edge.

Shape top (right side facing)


• *(knit 13, knit 2 together), repeat from * to end - 84
stitches
 *(knit 5, knit 2 together,) repeat from * to end. - 72
stitches

 *(knit 4, knit 2 together), repeat from * to end. - 60
stitches
 knit
 *(knit 3, knit 2 together), repeat from * to end. - 48
Required: 100g (185 meters) Patons Wool Blend Aran stitches
Needles: Metric 3.75mm & 4mm needles  knit
Tension: 4½ stitches = 1 inch, using 4mm needles and  *(knit 2, knit 2 together), repeat from * to end. - 36
stocking stitch stitches
Abbreviations: all instructions written in full  knit
Size: to fit average man’s head – 22 inches  *(knit 1, knit 2 together), repeat from * to end. - 24

Two needle Method:  knit
Using 3.75mm needles cast on 88 stitches  *(knit 2 together), repeat from * to end - 12 stitches
Work in knit 1, purl 1 rib for 5 inches.
Run thread through remaining stitches and pull tight. Join
Decrease 2 stitches evenly on the last row - 86 stitches seam. Fold over the rim.

Change to 4mm needles and continue in pattern:

 (purl 2, knit 4) repeat to last 2 stitches, purl 2.


 (knit 2, purl 1) repeat to last 2 stitches, knit 2.

Work until hat measures 9½ inches from cast on edge.

Shape top (right side facing)
