EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Livestock farming is an activity I picked up in a notion to gain self-

employment based on my refusal to remain idle during my search for
employment.

I’ve always been interested in rearing animals and I used an initial

investment of #Amount to open up a livestock farm in my hometown of kwoi,
jaba L.G.A in Kaduna state by purchasing:

 Seven she-goats
 One He-goat
 Eight Rams
 Two Ewes
 Feeds
 Vetenary Services
 And enlisting the services of a local livestock farmer

This proposal document explains my current business, how I operate and

intend to make profit within 3-5 years of operation which would entail an
additional capital investment of #Amount Naira.

After the 3 years of operation, I intend to gradually expand my livestock farm

to include:

 Snail Rearing
 Cattle Rearing
 Fish Farming
 Poultry Farming

In my hometown of kwoi, there is a need for commercial livestock rearing

and the ability to do so on a large scale would provide employment
opportunity within the agricultural sector for members of my community.

This need currently led to me to seize this business opportunity to profit off
the prospect of operating a viable livestock monopoly via commercial
livestock farming in my hometown..
3. SWOT ANALYSIS OF THE BUSINESS

STRENGTHS

A key strength I believe I possess as regards to successfully marketing my

livestock entails the fact that once my livestock reproduces,I would nurture
them to maturity and reap the rewards of either selling excess or the entire
offspring of my livestock at a profit.

WEAKNESS

The relatively little scale in which I produce at the moment and a lack of
skilled man power would make growth difficult as a lot of work would be
required to make my business grow and for me to gain a substantial market
share in the delivery and supply of livestock.

OPPORTUNITIES

The festive periods of Easter Christmas and Sarah provides a unique ad-hoc
market demand for the supply of livestock to cater to celebratory needs.

Also, the constant demand of livestock by high end restaurants, food retail
chains like sugar spots and abattoir markets provides an opportunity for the
steady supply of livestock products.

THREATS

Threats to the business I currently face fall under the following categories of :

TERRORISM

Activities of violence in the North especially from the activities of terrorists

can have a profound negative impact on my livestock farm as operations
would come to a complete stop if the violence spreads to my hometown of
kwoi.

PREDIATORS

Livestock are also prone to attacks from predators such as wild dogs, hyenas
and other carnivorous wild animals in proximity to my livestock farm.

DISEASES
The livestock I breed are prone to diseases which include:

 Pneumonia,
 Foot rot,
 Internal parasites,
 Pregnancy toxosis and
 Feed toxicity from mold and foreign fruits
 Viral and bacterial diseases, such as foot-and-mouth disease, caprice
arthritis encephalitis, Caseous lymphadenitis, pinkeye, mastitis, and
pseudo-rabies.
 They can also transmit a number of diseases to people, such as
tuberculosis, brucellosis, Q-fever, and rabies.

Hence, I have enlisted the services of vetenary doctor to ensure the

maintanance of vetenary best practices for the safety of livestock and to
prevent them from transmitting any diseases to my workers.

4. COMPETITOR ANALYSIS.

5. OPERATIONAL EXPENSES

Before I began operations I acquired kids of the livestock listed below at

#Amount each totaling #Account:

 8 She-goats
 1 He-goats
 8 Ewes &
 2 Rams

Every 2 months, I spend #Amount naira on Feeds for the entirety of my

livestock and #Amount naira on vetenary services.

The table below provides a much clearer picture.

6. MARKETING STRATEGIES

I intend to enter the market by introducing slightly lower prices than what
my competition offers while ensuring a cordial relationship in a bid to enable
me supply my livestock to attract and retain all customers I do business
with .

I will also ensure my livestock reaches adulthood robustly to ensure an

efficient word of mouth marketing strategy which I would conduct by
reaching out to consumers in area such as:

 Abattoir markets
 Roadside livestock markets
 Major Suya outlets
 Event planners

I also intend to have adult livestock available for sale during festive periods
like Christmas, Easter and major Sallah days to enable my bid for livestock
supply contracts to ensure complete livestock sales.
