SECTION 1

Important Information and General Eligibility Criteria


1. Candidates must follow the Admission Schedule to be notified on CU website.
2. Before filling up Application Form, candidates must go through the details in this Information
Brochure carefully. Application Forms found to be incomplete or supported by insufficient
documents even after the window period provided for correction or updating will be
summarily rejected.
3. The detailed admission schedule (i.e., dates, time, venue etc.) for online application, updating of
marks and correction of information, uploading of required signature, photograph and
documents, date of publication of selection list, date of admission etc. will be notified from time
to time in the admission portal of the University Website.

4. All information, given in the Brochure, is provisional and subject to change from time to
time, and will be notified through the University Website in the admission portal.

5. Applicant must select group(s) and course(s) with affiliated College(s), if any; in order of the
preference he/she intends to apply. System will automatically generate the required No(s). of
Application Form(s), Acknowledgement Slip, e-Receipt etc.

6. There are various fee structures in affiliated colleges, therefore, the applicants must see to their
affordability by contacting the respective college before opting for an affiliated college.

7. Order of preference (Group/Course/College) must be selected very carefully. A window period


for correction/ editing may be provided, but after the last date for correction/editing is over, no
change/correction/editing in the Application Form will be allowed.

Therefore, the following points must be ensured:


i) Number of Group(s) to be applied.
ii) Order of preference of the Course(s) to be opted.
iii) Order of preference of the College(s) to be selected.
iv) The application form must reflect the Order of preference in ascending order
(i.e.1,2,3,4,5….) and not in a random order (i.e.1,3,4,2,6,5…….).

8. C.U or Non-C.U candidates who have appeared in final year/ final semester examinations
this year (2025) and are waiting for the publication of results of final year/ final semester
examinations (and not any other semester results) are eligible to apply for admission to P.G.
Courses of the academic session 2025-27 but they are required to necessarily upload the final
year mark sheet as and when r equ ir ed eit her before the generation of Provisional Draft
merit list or before publication of Provisional Selection list.

9. Similarly C.U or Non-CU candidates, having qualified their final semester /year examinations,
not before the year 2024, are also eligible to apply for admission to P.G. Courses for the
academic session 2025-26.

10. CU or Non- CU candidates with final mark sheet showing PNC or SNC (semester not cleared)
are not eligible. Eligibility for admission to P.G. Course is subject to uploading of all clear mark
sheets of all years or all semesters in time. (A clear mark sheet means the one which does not
show Fail/ Arrear etc in any subject of any year/ any semester mark sheet.)

11. Admission in all courses will strictly be based on UG passing years (i.e. not before 2024) in
addition to the course-wise eligibility criteria for both CU and Non-CU applicants as
mentioned in Section-2. 4
12. The admission of Non-C.U. candidates passing out from any University/ University approved
colleges outside the state of West Bengal through regular or distance mode, is subject to
equivalence of their U.G. Course of Study with respect to the under graduate course of
study offered by C.U. The equivalence Department of C.U will issue a certificate of
equivalence after verification of relevant documents. However, Non-C.U candidates passing out
in regular mode from different Universities of West Bengal will not require any equivalence
certificate. (See Section 16)

13. A domicile certificate procured in the appended formats, from a competent authority under
Govt. of West Bengal must be uploaded at the time of submission of application form by
candidates applying under reserved categories with S.C/ S.T/ OBC/ PWD/ EWS certificates
issued by a state other than West Bengal, ( see Section-5 & 17 of Information Brochure). A
domicile certificate procured from his / her state of Origin will not be accepted. Kindly visit the
website of CU frequently and follow the information, instruction, notification and admission
schedules which will be uploaded from time to time in course of admission process.

14. The Two (2) years Post Graduate M.A./ M.Sc. or M.Com course ( Under CBCS) shall be
for a minimum duration of 4 consecutive semesters of 6 months each i.e. two (2)
years. (Odd Semester: July to December ; Even Semester: January to June)

Choice of Course(s)/ Group(s) and College(s)

Application only through on-line mode.

Read the following instructions carefully before filling up the Application Form.

Candidate; if eligible (as per Sections – 2 & 3); may apply for more than one group and course/college
according to their choice/preference.

Candidate intending to apply for more than one group/ course/ college must carefully opt for order of
preference. Computer will automatically generate the required number of Application Form(s).

SIGNIFICANCE OF ORDER OF PREFERENCE :

Order of preference must be carefully selected as no change in order of preference is usually allowed.
During Selection process the options of candidate with Higher Merit will be considered first then the
options of the next higher merit candidates will be considered.
Once the candidate is selected in one option, all the lower options will be closed, only higher options
if available will remain open for future chances.
The preference 1 is higher option than preference 2 and so on. The candidate should select the course
as preference 1 which he thinks the best one and he intends to get admission if he gets chance.
Accordingly 2nd best course as preference 2 and so on.
** Order of preference must be in ascending order (i.e.1,2,3,4,5….) and not in a random order
(i.e.1,3,4,2,6,5…….).

SECTION – 5
SELECTION PROCEDURE AND ADMISSION RULES

A) 60% of total seats in each course termed as Part – “A” be earmarked for current year (i.e. 2025) C.U. students
only. All the current year (2025).

B) Rest 40% of total seats in each course termed as Part – “B” be earmarked for Honours Graduates of current
year (2025) and back year (2024) of Calcutta University (C.U) and for Honours graduates of other Universities
(Non-C.U.), having passed out in the current year (2025) and the immediately preceding year (2024).

C) If 60% of seats earmarked for current year CU Students remains vacant due to unavailability of applicants in
PART-A, may be filled up by Part B candidates in accordance with the merit based on Entrance Test
Marks/Percentile and similarly, any number of 40% of the seats earmarked for the applicants of current year and
back year CU & NON-CU applicants from Other Universities remains vacant in Part B, may be filled up by
applicants from Part A earmarked for Current year CU candidates only.

D) Candidates who were admitted to any P.G. Course in the previous year (2024); either in CU Departments or in
any U.G College offering P.G. Course affiliated to University of Calcutta; cannot apply.

A. Selection of candidate of Part “A”.


Selection List for Admission will be published strictly in order of merit, based on percentage of marks
secured in Honours subjects (1+1+1 System) OR Honours Core Course (CC), Skill Enhancement Course
(SEC) and Discipline Specific Elective (DSE) subjects (CBCS System).
In case of a tie, the aggregate of marks in general subjects (1+1+1 System) and Generic Elective (GE)
subjects (CBCS System) will be taken into consideration.

B. Selection of candidate of Part “B”


Selection List for Admission will be published strictly in order of merit, based on marks / Percentile
secured at an Entrance Test to be conducted in due time.

In case of a tie, the aggregate of marks in Honours subjects (1+1+1 System) OR Honours Core Course (CC),
Skill Enhancement Course (SEC) and Discipline Specific Elective (DSE) subjects (CBCS System).
In case of a tie in Honours marks too, the aggregate of marks in general subjects (1+1+1 System) and
Generic Elective (GE) subjects (CBCS System) will be taken into consideration.

C. Other rules for Selection Procedures.

1. There will be two main merit lists in each group of applications


A) One for Part – “A” (Current year CU Candidates only),

(a) B) Another for Part – “B” (Current year and back year CU & Non-CU Candidates), as
mentioned above.
2. Selection in each course may be done simultaneously from two merit lists
i) Part –“A” and ii) Part –“B”.
3. Existing SC/ST/PWD/ OBC*/EWS reservation rules will be followed separately for both Part – “A”
i.e. 60% of total seats earmarked for C.U. students and Part – “B” i.e. 40% of total seats earmarked
for CU & Non-C.U. students.

4. If sufficient number of suitable candidates (UR/ SC/ST/OBC*/EWS) are not available
in Part – “A”, the same may be filled up from Part – “B” and vice versa.

D. Counseling Mechanism
General Rules:
• The choices / preferences submitted by the candidates in their applications will be processed and seat
will be provisionally allotted in the order of merit as per application form submitted.

Next Round of Counseling for seat allotment:


Candidates eligible for seat allotment in the next round fall into one of the following sets:

• Set – 1: Applicants who did not get any seat allotment in the 1st round.
• Set – 2: Applicants who were allotted a seat in lower preference in the previous selection list.
• A candidate is not eligible to a specific course if he/she has higher percentage of marks/Final
Score/Entrance Test Marks ( as applicable) than the last candidate selected in the previous counseling
/selection list of that specific course.
• For example; in one counseling last candidate had following scores :
i. for course A – 490
ii. for course B – 480
iii. for course C – 470
iv. for course D – 460
In the next round of counseling, a candidate having score 472 is not eligible for course C & D but the
candidate is eligible for course A & B and like that.

Rules for Seat Allotment:


• Set – 1: All the preferences will be processed. (in case where candidate not yet got a chance in
any course)
• Set – 2: Only the higher preferred choices will be processed.(in case where candidate already
got a chance in any courses)

E. Course wise eligibility criteria both for CU and Non-CU applicants are same.
Eligible applicants of Other Universities (Non-CU) may also apply as appeared candidate subject to
production of Pass out Mark Sheet of all semesters /Years as a proof of fulfillment of eligibility criteria
before publication of Provisional Draft Merit List satisfying the requisite eligibility criteria.

F. SC/ST/PWD/OBC*/EWS reservations as per University rules and practices will be followed in


both “Part -A” and “Part -B”.
i. For Scheduled Caste (SC) / Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates, reservations will be
provided 22% for SC and 6% for ST for all courses.
For admission to different courses an SC/ST candidate getting admission should have
obtained in the previous examination, qualifying marks not lower by more than 25% of
marks obtained by the last candidate of the Unreserved category.

ii. PWD (Persons with Disabilities) Persons with disabilities having 40% and above degree
of disability will enjoy a 5% reservation horizontally in each of the categories –
Unreserved and Reserved, i.e. UR, SC, ST, OBC* & EWS, and such candidates, if
available, shall be placed towards the top of the list prepared for each category of
students.
• The PWD candidates claiming seats under reserved category are required to
produce/upload appropriate PWD certificates, valid at the time of application
and issued by the competent authority satisfying the following criteria:

• Officer-in-Charge or Medical Head of Primary Health Centers, Block Health
Centers, State General Hospitals, Rural Hospitals, Sub-Divisional Hospitals or the
District Hospitals run by the State Government or any hospital run by a statutory
body or authority.
• PWD category candidates will be ELIGIBLE with a minimum of 40% disability
subject to the condition that the candidate is capable of carrying out all activities
related to theory / practical work, as applicable ,to the courses without special
concession and exemption.
• For admission to different courses a PWD candidate getting admission should
have obtained in the previous examination, qualifying marks not lower by more
than 25% of marks obtained by the last candidate of the Unreserved category.

iii. OBC* reservation:


a) 7% of the total seats of the concerned subject. Implementation of reservation has
already been in effect from the Academic Session 2014-15 by part in compliance
with the order of the W. B. Govt. Rules in a phase-wise manner as given in
relevant G.O.s and endorsed by the C.U. Syndicate.
b) OBC* student getting admission should obtain marks in the relevant last qualifying
examination not lower than 10% of the marks obtained by the last candidate
admitted from the Unreserved category (if applicable).
c) Where merit list will be prepared on the basis of final score with fractional
weightage of different components (like entrance test, qualifying exam marks,
10+2 level exam marks, interview, etc.), the OBC* candidate should obtain final
score not lower than 10% than that of obtained by the last candidate admitted in
Unreserved Category.

iv. Economically Weaker Section (EWS):


a) 10% seats for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) in compliance with Govt. Order
No. 339-Edn (CS)/OM-74L/2023, will be supernumerary in all P.G. Courses in CU
departments and/ or P.G. courses in CU affiliated colleges.
b) Candidates under PWD & EWS categories (like SC/ST/OBC*) having certificates
from a state other than West Bengal will require to submit a Domicile Certificate
from competent authority under Govt. of W.B.
c) EWS certificate is valid for the financial year of issuance of the certificate.

G. Candidates having SC/ST/OBC*/PWD/EWS Certificate issued from Govt. of West Bengal are
entitled to get the reservation facility for admission. Candidates with SC/ST/PWD/ OBC* /EWS
certificate issued from a State other than West Bengal are not eligible for such reservation benefits
for admission and they will be treated as General Category candidates.
Such candidate will be otherwise eligible if they procure and submit domicile certificate of West
Bengal in prescribed format from a competent authority under the Govt. of West Bengal at the
time of admission. The Domicile Certificate of West Bengal should be procured by candidate who
has been
EITHER
Residing in West Bengal continuously at least for last 10 years as on 31.12.2023
OR
Whose parent (s) is/ are permanent resident (s) of West Bengal having permanent address within
the state of West Bengal (Proforma-B)

THE CERTIFICATE BEING SUBMITTED BY THE CANDIDATE FOR CLAIMING

RESERVATION UNDER SC/ST/OBC*/PWD/EWS CATEGORIES; MUST HAVE BEEN
ISSUED BY THE COMPETENT AUTHORITY, ON A DATE PRIOR TO THE SUBMISSION
OF APPLICATION. CERTIFICATE ISSUED ON A LATER DATE BY ANY AUTHORITY,
WILL NOT BE ACCEPTABLE AT THE TIME OF ADMISSION.

H. If sufficient number of suitable SC/ST/PWD/OBC*/EWS C.U. candidates are not available in Part –
“A”,the seats may be filled up by the Part –“B” and vice- versa.

I. SC/ST/PWD/OBC*/EWS Candidates securing equal or higher marks than the last candidate
admitted from the unreserved category will be selected under “Unreserved Category” as well as
respective reserved category
J. P.N.C/ S.N.C candidates are not eligible to apply.
K. Admission to be closed within one month from the commencement of classes.

L. All the rules are subject to change by the order of the appropriate authority.

SECTION – 6

Venue of Admission

Admission of the candidates selected in the final selection list in various courses in
the University departments and in various P.G. courses offered by affiliated U.G.
colleges will be held in the following places.

For Admission to P.G. courses in Respective Faculty Secretary Offices of


University Departments Different Campuses, University of

For Admission to P.G. courses offered in Principal’s Office of the Respective
U.G. Colleges U.G. Colleges.

SECTION – 7

NON-C.U. CANDIDATES
Non-C.U. candidate means the candidate who has graduated with Honours or its equivalent
degree from a University other than the University of Calcutta and fulfills the required eligibility
criteria for admission in relevant P.G. course(s).
Non-C.U. candidate having graduated as Honours or its equivalent in the current year (2025)
or in the immediate preceding year (2024); are eligible for respective course subject to
fulfillment of eligibility criteria.

1. Course wise eligibility criteria for C.U. and Non-C.U. candidate both are same.

2. Non C.U. candidates; having graduated with Major course /or other course
equivalent to Honours and having mark sheets not clearly mentioning“ Honours” on
them,; must upload a certificate from the Registrar of the university graduating from;
stating that the course of the candidate is equivalent to Honours course in order to
fulfill the eligibility criteria.
Non-C.U candidates who have appeared in final year/ final semester examinations
this year (2025) and are waiting for the publication of results of final year/ final
semester examinations (and not any other semester results) are eligible to apply for
admission to P.G. Courses of the academic session 2025-26 but they have to
necessarily upload the final mark sheet before the last date of online submission of
application or window period for correction whichever is later.
3. CU or Non- CU candidates with final mark sheet showing PNC or SNC (semester not
cleared) are not eligible.
4. Eligibility for admission to P.G. Course is subject to uploading of all clear mark sheets
of all years or all semesters in time. (A clear mark sheet means a mark sheet which
does not show Fail/ Arrear etc in any subject of any year/ semester.)
5. For Hostel Facility please see “Post Admission” Section.
6. All Non-C.U. students admitted in the P. G. Courses are required to submit
application for Registration at Calcutta University in prescribed format along
with Original Migration Certificate from previous University within a month
from the date of admission.

Section-8

Entrance Test & Fees

Part- B

Part-B candidates will be selected in order of merit on the basis of marks obtained at an
Entrance Examination to be held for each Group on a date to be notified in website.

1) Current year Cu candidates may or may not appear at Entrance test mandatory for Part B.

2) Back year CU candidates have been brought under Part –B therefore they will have to appear
at Entrance test mandatorily for Part B.

3) Current year and back year Non- CU candidates will have to appear at Entrance Test
mandatorily for Part-B.

4) Part-B (*CU) candidates who have been brought under Part-B, will have to appear at Entrance
Test.

5) If any current year CU applicants appear at Entrance test (Part B), he/she will be placed in the
merit list of both Part A & Part B, but only the higher option will be offered at the time of selection
for admission.

Candidates under SC / ST / PWD categories will have to deposit Rs 200/- (Rupees Two
hundred only) as Entrance Test fee for each group at the time of submission of application.

Entrance Test fee of Rs 400/-(Rupees Four hundred only) is required to be paid by applicants
other than SC / ST / PWD for each group at the time of submission of application.

NOTE :
*CU Hons. Graduates for subject code 341, (Except
Hons.Graduates in library studies from CU) have been brought
under Part-B.

SECTION –9

Reserved Categories

The following seats are reserved in each subject for the under mentioned categories (declaration once
given cannot be changed).

1) For SC/ST - 22% and 6% respectively of the total seats of the concerned subject.
Eligibility - SC/ST candidates should submit online scanned copy of SC/ST certificate issued as per
the West Bengal SC/ST (identification) Act 1994.Candidates from other Universities outside West
Bengal will have to submit online scanned copy of domicile certificate along with their SC/ST/OBC*
certificate.

2) For Persons with Disability: Reservation of 5% seats for PWD horizontally within each respective
category (SC/ST/ OBC*/EWS/ Unreserved) of the concerned subject.

N.B.- Candidates under Persons with disability(PWD) category having degree of disability not less
than 40% should submit copy of a certificate issued by the competent authority of a Govt. Hospital.

3) For OBC*: 7% of the total seats of the concerned subject. Implementation of reservation has already
been in effect from the Academic Session 2014-15 in a certain manner in compliance with the order
of the W. B. Govt. Rules in a phase-wise manner as given in relevant G.O.s and endorsed by the
C.U. Syndicate.

4) Economically Weaker Section (EWS):


a) 10% seats for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) in compliance with Govt. Order No. 339-Edn
(CS)/OM-74L/2023, will be supernumerary in all P.G. Courses in CU departments and/ or P.G.
courses in CU affiliated colleges.
b) Candidates under PWD & EWS categories (like SC/ST/OBC*) having certificates from a state
other than West Bengal will require to submit a Domicile Certificate from competent authority

C) EWS certificate is valid for the financial year of issuance of the certificate.

5) Sports Person: Additional Total 8 (Eight) seats for Faculty of Arts, Education, Journalism and Library
Science and 4(Four) seats for Faculty of Commerce and Social Welfare & Business Management.
N.B. : Eligibility will be decided by the appropriate authority of the C.U.

6) Military Quota: Additional 5 seats will be reserved for the children of the Ex-military service men who
have died or have become disabled in the battle field provided they are otherwise eligible.

8) SC/ST/PWD/OBC*/EWS reservation as per University rules and practices will be followed in both
“Part -A” and “Part -B”. The University Reservation Rules framed time to time shall be applicable.

Selection on the basis of marks:
i) For Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe candidates, reservations will be provided for SC: 22%, ST:
6% for all courses.

For admission to different courses an SC/ST candidate getting admission should have obtained in the
previous examination, qualifying marks not lower by more than 25% of marks obtained by the last
candidate of the Unreserved category.

ii) PWD (Persons with Disabilities) Persons with disabilities having 40% and above degree of
disability will enjoy a 5% reservation horizontally in each of the categories, i.e. in UR, SC, ST, OBC
in the Unreserved Category, and such candidates, if available, shall be placed towards the top of the
list prepared for each category of students.

The PWD candidates claiming seats under reserved category are required to produce appropriate PWD
certificates issued by the competent authority satisfying the following criteria:

Officer-in-Charge or Medical Head of Primary Health Centers, Block Health Centers, State General
Hospitals, Rural Hospitals, Sub-Divisional Hospitals or the District Hospitals run by the State
Government or any hospital run by a statutory body or authority.

PWD category candidates will be ELIGIBLE with a minimum of 40% disability subject to the condition
that the candidate is capable of carrying out all activities related to theory / practical work, as
applicable, to the courses without special concession and exemption.

For admission to different courses a PWD candidate getting admission should have obtained in the
previous examination, qualifying marks not lower by more than 25% of marks obtained by the last
candidate of the Unreserved category.

Where merit list will be prepared on the basis of score with fractional weightage of different fractions
(like entrance test, qualifying exam marks, 10+2 level exam marks, interview, etc. ), the PWD
candidate should obtain final score not lower than 25% than that of obtain by the last candidates
admitted of Unreserved Category.

iii) OBC* reservation has been 7% of the total seat. OBC student getting admission should obtain marks
in the previous qualifying examination in the relevant last qualifying examination not lower than 10%
than that obtained by the last candidate admitted from the Unreserved category (if applicable).

iv) Economically Weaker Section (EWS) reservation 10% seats for Economically Weaker Section will
be supernumerary in all P.G. Courses in CU departments and/ or P.G. courses in CU affiliated colleges.
EWS student getting admission should obtain marks in the previous qualifying examination in the
relevant last qualifying examination not lower than 10% than that obtained by the last candidate
admitted from the Unreserved category (if applicable).

SPORTS QUOTA

Candidates having following eligibility criteria may apply under sports quota and they are requested
to send his / her Application Form along with documents of sports mentioning the application no. &

Eligibility:

 Candidates must have represented a State or equivalent in any National/Inter National


Championship conducted under the aegis of respective Federation/Association recognised by
the Ministry of Youth affairs and Sports/ Indian Olympic Association.

 Candidates should have participation in Inter University Competition, conducted under the
aegis of AIU.

 For Football & Cricket, applicant must have represented any First Division Club with either in
the current year or any one of two preceding years organised by CAB or IFA.

 For chess, applicant having the FIDE current rating (standard) 1700 above for Boys and 1300
and above for girls is eligible to apply for admission under the Sports Quota.

 For Lawn Tennis applicant having the AITA current ranking up to 500 for (M/W) category is
eligible to apply for admission under the Sports Quota.

The rating/ranking for Chess & Tennis is applicable on the day/week of publication of
advertisement for admission under Sports Quota.

Eligibility marks / Cut off Marks / Relaxation of Marks will be same as like SC / ST/ PWD.

Selected Candidate may be given chance for admission in super numeric additional seat subject to
approval of the competent authority.

Foreign/International Candidate
For Foreign Students 15% additional (supernumerary) seats (15% of the total seats) be earmarked.
Foreign student may be selected through Interview by the respective departments.
Foreign student have to apply through Email / Hard Copy mentioning his / her all previous degrees,
mark sheets, certificates and syllabus of the last qualifying examination eligibility degree to the respective
HoD.
HoD after preliminary verification of the academic records, may call for Interview.

Foreign Students having graduated from a university outside India will have to Submit Equivalence
Certificate from AIU. (Association of Indian Universities)

Three (03) types of Foreign Students:


a) Foreign National with last qualifying eligibility degree from University of Calcutta.
b) Foreign National with last qualifying eligibility degree from other Indian University.
c) Foreign National with last qualifying eligibility degree from Foreign University

Foreign National with last qualifying eligibility degree from University of Calcutta candidates may also

Policy for Refund of permissible fees


(Only for admission in CU departments)

Following the UGC guideline, if any candidate decides to withdraw from the course in
which he/she took admission, then the University shall follow the system mentioned below
of the UGC norms for fee refund.

Processing fee for cancellation of admission of Rs. 1000/- per candidate will be deducted

admission fees. Refund Application must have mentioned details of the Bank Account
having (i) Bank Name, (ii) Branch Name, (iii) Account No., (iv) IFSC Code, (v) Name of
the account holder, (vi) Type of account etc clearly.

Termination of Studentship
A. If any student remains absent from classes continuously for seven days or intermittently for
more than 50% of classes held during any consecutive two (2) weeks from the date of his/her
admission, his/her name will be debarred and struck off the rolls and fees submitted by the
students at the time of admission shall not be refunded. Such candidates will not be re-admitted.

B. No cancellation of admission will be allowed after the admission process is closed and fees
submitted by the student shall not be refunded. Such candidates will not be re-admitted.
