What is an MUN?
Model United Nations is a simulation that imitates the procedures of the United Nations
finding solutions for real-world problems, done through an academic simulation of the
United Nations procedure. The MUN simulation consists of negotiation, discussion, and
lively debates, which is the cornerstone of UN activity.

MUN Terminologies
Delegate
a delegate is someone who acts as a representative. They take on the role of a
country or organization during a conference .
Portfolio
portfolio refers to the specific country, or individual that they represent during
the conference
Agendas
The agenda lists all the topics or problems that the committee will talk about
during the conference.

Executive Board
the executive board of an MUN is comprised of individuals who have been
selected after an extensive process of judging their merit and skills.

MUN Terminologies
Committee
These are simply the different subjects you study being in one classroom
similarly, UN is the classroom and the committees are the subjects.
Plaque Card
a small card that displays the name of the country a delegate is representing

related to the topic at hand. Identify past resolutions, agreements, or initiatives your
country has been a part of.
4.Analyze Current Policies: Research your country's current stance on the topic, as well
as its recent statements, speeches, and actions in international forums.
5.Rely on reputable sources: such as official government statements, academic papers,
reports from international organizations, and news outlets.
Avoid biased or unreliable sources.

preparation
6.Take Notes and Organize Information: Keep detailed notes of key information, quotes, and
references.
7.Formulate Key Points and Arguments:

Based on your research, develop clear and concise arguments that support your country's position
on the topic.

8. Draft concise opening and closing statements that outline your country's position, key points,
and proposed solutions.

Rules of procedure
ROLL CALL:All forms of debate during the conference are carried
out within the GSL, and this list is open throughout the duration of
the discussion on that agenda

GSL:Moderated caucuses - Debating about the term which fall under


the agenda

Unmoderated caucuses- part of the


committee when u can talk informally and talk to other dels.

CAUCUSES

Causes disruption used to address different issues

POINTS

Present - A Delegate can vote in Yes, No or Abstain for a Draft Resolution


when you answers the Roll Call with Present.
Present and Voting - A Delegate is bound to vote decisively, i.e., in a Yes
or No only if she/he has answered the Roll Call with a Present and Voting.
A Delegate cannot Abstain in this case.

POINTS
POINT OF INFORMATION: Ask questions to other delegates
POINT OF PERSONAL PRIVILEGE:P Address personal problems faced in
the committee

Eg- permission to use the washroom etc

POINT OF INQUIRY: To ask the Chair a question regarding the rules of


procedure.

POINT OF ORDER: Point out factual or a procedural error

How to raise motion?


Setting the agenda - “The Delegate of ___________wishes to raise a motion to set the
agenda to of the committee to ___________
Opening the GSL - The Delegate of wishes to raise a motion to establish the General
Speakers’ List with individual speaker’s time being ___________total time being
___________

Moderated caucuses - The Delegate of Country would like to raise a motion to move into
a moderated caucus on the topic ___________ for the time period of Total Time_______and
each speaker’s time being _____"

Unmoderated caucuses- “The Delegate of Country would like to raise a motion and
move into an unmoderated Caucus for a Total Time of ____minutes”.

As the name suggest this document

will state the country’s position in the current times


WORKING PAPER
This is the individual DR which has no such formats and is
formulated to present solution being discussed throughout the
committee

PRESS RELEASE
A document which is submitted to the press made collectively by
the entire committee to summarise the conference
