INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES:
This paper consists of two Sections; A and B. It has six examination items.
Section A has two compulsory items.
Section B has two parts; I and II. Answer one item from each part.
Answer four examination items in all.
Any additional item(s) answered will not be scored.
All answers must be written in the Answer booklet(s) provided.
SECTION A
Respond to all items in this section
ITEM 1
"Indeed, those who believe and do righteous deed and establish prayer and give
Zakah, and will have reward with their Lord and there will be no fear concerning
them nor will they grieve". Surat baqara 2:277
Task:
(a) Explain the Islamic guidance in the above Quranic text.
(b) Relate the teachings of African Tradition Religion to teachings in the above
text.
ITEM 2
Muzamil has been in marriage with Rukia for 10 years and they have one child.
this marriage is characterized by domestic violence, neglect, disrespect and denial
of the right to sex against Rukia. Despite all that, she still values her marriage and
look forward to a time when her husband will also value their marriage.
Tasks:
Basing on the scenario, explain
a) The intention of marriage in Islam that Muzamil should consider in his
marriage with Rukia
b) Lessons that married people today learn from Rukia’s conduct

SECTION B
PART I
Respond to one item in this section.
ITEM 3
"And there is not for man except that for which he strives" Surat Najm 53:39
Tasks:
(a) Interpret the above Quranic text in regard to work.
(b) How do people in society today violate teachings in the above text?
ITEM 4.
"He it is Who has made the earth subservient to you (i.e. easy for you to walk, to
live and do agriculture on it); so walk in the path thereof and eat of His provision.
And to Him will be the Resurrection. Surat Al-Mulk 67: 15.

Task:
(a) In light of the above Qur'anic text, explain the ways in which Muslims should
use Allah’s creation for their livelihood.
(b) How do some people in Uganda today abuse Allah’s provisions reflected in
the above verse?

Part II
I answer one item from this part.
ITEM 5.
"O you who believe! Stand out firmly for Allah as just witnesses; and let not the
enmity and hatred of others make you avoid justice. Be just: that is nearer to piety;
and fear Allah. Verily, Allah’s is Well-Acquainted with what you do."
Surat Al - Maidah 5:8.
Support: The word piety means strong belief in religion.
Task:
a) How does the above verse guide Muslims in matters of justice in their daily
life
b) Relate the Traditional African approaches on justice to those in the Qur'anic
text above
ITEM 6
Yasin died and left behind a building in Kampala city. Shortly after his death his
only two sons conflicted over ownership of the building. They fought each other to
the extent that all of them were hospitalized. The relatives have intervened but
have not succeeded in ending the misunderstanding.

Task:
Explain:
(a)Islamic teachings through which the misunderstandings can be resolved.
(b) contemporary views to guide the people in the scenario to live at peace.
