Sub: System operated Auto Emergency brake (SOAEB) in 3-phase Electric
locomotives with E-70 Brake system.

RDSO issued instructions vide Ref.(i) for provision of System Operated Auto
Emergency Brake (SOAEB) in order eliminate the design issue of BP not dropping by A-9
(DBC) in service zone in E-70 Brake system of M/s FTRTIL in 3ph. electric locomotives for fail
safe operation.
This SOAEB will address the design issues of E-70 brake system viz. Brakes not getting
applied due to BP pressure not dropping by A9 (DBC) in service zones i.e. at Initial application
and Full Service positions, non availability of cab activation signal due to Pressure transducer
output got open circuited/ short circuited and Cab activation signal (2111A/2111B) of active cab
missing/ disconnected.
The Provision of SOAEB in WR based locomotives with of E-70 brake system is in
progress and will be covered in all locomotives in coming days. The SOEAB Main Unit is
provided at the right hand side of Brake Electronics Rack on the E-70 panel. The Main Unit is
provided with a two position (NORMAL & BY PASS) Rotary switch with RED Knob on the front
side with two LED indications viz. Green LED for normal operation and Red LED during
Emergency Brake application by SOAEB. However for a fail to safe working, no BYPASS is
permitted. Further the Transducer Unit is provided at the base of Cock No-70 on E-70
Pneumatic Panel. (Photograph attached).
SOAEB system equipped locomotives are provided with an information sticker in the
both driving cabs (Photograph attached). The SOAEB system is provided with Bypass switch only
for trouble shooting purpose to know the cause of brake actuation and in no case it is permitted
to work the locomotives in Bypass position. Always it should be in Normal position as a safety
point of view since it is provided for fail safe working of brake system. All Loco sheds, Trip sheds

and TRO staff/Crew/officials must ensure that the position of this SOEAB switch in Normal
position at all times and in no case the locomotive is permitted to work in service in Bypass
position. If any mal function observed or in bypass condition then same should be entered in the
loco log book and loco to be sent to nearest shed for immediate attention in the least possible
time with due care.
All electric loco maintenance & operation officials and staff are advised for necessary
action to ensure the above.
