Report 2

Operation Sindoor was a military operation conducted by the Indian Armed Forces on May 7, 2025, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to a deadly terror attack that killed 26 civilians. The operation successfully eliminated over 70 terrorists using advanced weaponry and demonstrated India's commitment to combating terrorism, though it heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, leading to military posturing and international calls for restraint. The situation remains precarious, with both nations on high alert and the risk of escalation into a full-scale war.

Operation Sindoor

“The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.” – Thomas Jefferson

On May 7, 2025, the Indian Armed Forces conducted a significant military operation, code-
named Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-
occupied Kashmir (PoK). This operation was a direct response to the Pahalgam terror
attack of 22nd April, 2025, that claimed the lives of 26 civilians. The Resistance Front (TRF),
an offshoot of the Lashkar -e-Taiba claimed responsibility of the attack initially. The heinous
crime was widely condemned across India and internationally, with many calling for swift
and decisive action to dismantle the terrorist networks responsible. It cannot be denied
that the Government of India faced mounting pressure to respond precisely, and Operation
Sindoor was the culmination of this resolve.

The operation was a meticulously planned and executed strike, involving the Indian Army,
Navy, and Air Force. Advanced weaponry, including SCALP cruise missiles and HAMMER
(precision-guided munitions) were used to target nine terrorist camps associated with
Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). The strikes aimed to minimize civilian
casualties and maximize damage to terrorist infrastructure. According to the press release
from the Government of India, over 70 terrorists were killed in the operation, dealing a
severe blow to the terrorist ecosystem in the South Asian corridor.

The success of Operation Sindoor must be attributed to the efficiency of the Indian military
to gather and act on intelligence, as well as its capacity for coordinated action across
different branches of the armed forces. The operation demonstrates India’s commitment to
combating terrorism and protecting her citizens. Also, the capabilities and strategic
restraint of the army deserve accolades. The decision to conduct the operation was largely
influenced by domestic public opinion, international expectations, and the need to
maintain regional stability.

The international community closely watched the developments surrounding Operation

Sindoor, with countries like the United States and China urging restraint and caution. The
US emphasized the importance of preventing further escalation, while China called for
both India and Pakistan to exercise maximum restraint to maintain regional peace and
stability. The operation received widespread support across India, with the government and
opposition leaders praising the precision and effectiveness of execution.

In the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, the situation along the India-Pakistan border got
extremely concerning, with both the countries engaging in a war of words and military
posturing. Pakistan condemned the operation as a violation of its sovereignty, claiming that
India has taken away the lives of Pakistani civilians under the pretext of destroying non-
existent terrorist camps. Various international agreements between the two nations stood
cancelled initially. Pakistan vowed to respond strongly to any further incursions. The Indian
army was immediately placed on high alert, with troops and equipment mobilized along
the border in anticipation of a potential Pakistani response. The risk of a full-scale war
between the two nuclear-armed nations was rapidly escalating, and the international
community contributed significantly to de-escalate the situation through diplomatic
channels.
