Owlette Hat

Yarn: Bulky approximately 75 grams
Needle Size: 10 1/2 - or size needed to match gauge.
Gauge: 13 st = 4 inches
Notions: 14 buttons - either 1/4 inch craft buttons or larger for “better to see you with”
eyes!
Will make a hat to fit approximately a head size of 21.5 - 23 inches. If you need a larger
or smaller size, adjust your needle size.

Abbreviations:
K = knit
P = purl
K2tog = knit 2 stitches together
SKPSSO = slip one stitch, knit one stitch, pass the slip stitch over.
C4B = slip 2 stitches to a cable needle, hold in back. Knit 2 stitches. Then knit the 2
from cable needle.
C4F = slip 2 stitches to a cable needle, hold in front. Knit 2 stitches. Then knit the 2 from
cable needle.

Ribbing Section:
• Cast on 68 stitches and set up to work in the round.
• Work 2x2 ribbing for 10 rows.
• Knit one row, increasing 2 stitches in this round so that you have 70 stitches now.
• Knit two rows

Owl Pattern Section:


Row1: (K2, P8, place marker) - repeat 6 times more
Row2: (P2, K8, slip marker) - repeat 6 times more
Row3: Repeat row 2
Row4: (P2, C4B, C4F, slip marker) - repeat 6 times more
Rows 5-11: Repeat row 2
Row 12: Repeat row 4
Row 13: Repeat row 2
Rows 14 and 15: (P2, K1, P2, K2, P2, K1) - repeat 6 times more
Rows 16 and 17: Repeat row 2
Row 18: Repeat row 4
Row 19: Repeat row 2

Knit 3 rows
Dec row 1: (K1, K2tog, K4, SKPSSO, K1) - repeat 6 more times
Row 2: Knit all stitches
Dec row 3: (K1, K2tog, K3, SKPSSO, K1) - repeat 6 more times
Row 4: Knit all stitches
Dec row 5: (K1, K2tog, K2, SKPSSO, K1) - repeat 6 more times
Row 6: Knit all stitches
Dec row 7: (K1, K2tog, K1, SKPSSO, K1) - repeat 6 more times
Row 8: Knit all stitches
Dec row 9: (K1, K2tog, SKPSSO, K1) - repeat 6 more times
Row 10: Knit all stitches
Dec row 11: (K1, K2tog, K1) - repeat 6 more times
Row 12: Knit all stitches
Dec row 13: (K1, K2tog) - repeat 6 more times
Row 14: Knit all stitches
Dec row 15: (K2tog) - repeat 6 more times

Finishing:
• Cut yarn with about a 12-inch tail. Thread a tapestry needle and pass through all
stitches and remove from the needles as you go.
• Pull tight and weave in tail.
• Weave in Beginning tail.
• Sew on button eyes.
• I like to add a pom-pom onto the top of the hat.

Go out and enjoy the next full moon and hoot!
