Procedure for mooring onto buoy.

➢ 1.Manoeuvre the vessel to bring the mooring buoy by

approaching with hanging-off bow.
➢ 2.Sending away mooring rope/hawser(head line) from
centre lead and made fast onto buoy ring by assistance
of ‘mooring boat’ and ‘buoy jumpers’.

(1)
➢ After securing, heave in the head line until the buoy is right
under the ship’s bow.

4. When lying the buoy right under the bow, lower and
adjusted the anchor cable for shackling onto buoy.
5. The buoy jumpers will be shackled the anchor cable onto
the chain of mooring buoy.
6. After that, lower the anchor chain and slack off the head
line to an adequate distance from the mooring buoy.

7.Then, cast off the head line and send the two slip wires from each
bow ,to be passed through the buoy ring and return to ship’s
opposite bow by means of messenger ropes and assistance of
buoy jumpers.
8.Two slip wires shall be made fast on the bollards and entire
weight of the vessel to be ride on the cable chain.
(ie; slip wires are only as a guard and releasing purpose.)

Slip wires
***In some cases, mooring ropes can be used as slip ropes instead
of the slip wires.

Slip wires
Releasing the buoy chain and
un-mooring from buoy.
➢ Sending and made fast the mooring rope again onto buoy.
➢ Heave in both of anchor chain and mooring rope together
until the buoy comes under the ship’s bow.
➢ Also heave in and shorten the slips wires simultaneously
and secure again on bollards.
➢ Slack the chain cable slightly and release the buoy shackle.
➢ Heave back the anchor chain to the deck.
➢ Slacken and cast off the mooring rope(hawser) from buoy
ring.
➢ Cast off and let’s go the two slip wires simultaneously, if
necessary using engine astern for backing down.
