 Highest Civilian award of India
 Presented for exceptional service and advancement in the field of Art,
literature, and science
 First three recipients of Bharat Ratna were Dr. Radhakrishnan, C.
Rajagopalachari and Dr. C.V. Raman in 1954
 First foreigner to be honoured with Bharat Ratna was Khan Abdul
Ghaffar khan in 1987
 1st Person Awarded Posthumously – Lal Bahadur Shastri
 1st women Recipient – Indra Gandhi

Padma Vibhushan
 Second highest civilian award
 Awarder for distinguish service in any field including Government
service
 Padma Bhushan and Padma Shree are the other important civilian

Noble Prize

 Given by UNESCO for exceptional skill in presenting scientific ideas
 It was created in 1952, following a donation from Biju Patnaik, Founder
President of the Kalinga Foundation Trust in India
 Jagjit Singh was the first Indian to receive this award

 Instituted in 1961
 Given by Sports Ministry, Government of India.
 These are given for the special achievements in different types of
sports
