2 INSPECTING A NEW RIG

2.1 General
New rig shall be finalized, inspected and tested so that the use of the rig is
safe, and the rig is suitable for its intended use. During the inspection the
Start-up document shall be filled, and all noticed lacks or damages on the
rig or rig's components are to be documented with good quality photos.

2.2 Finalizing the rig

WARNING
IGNORING INSTRUCTIONS HAZARD!
If you do not understand any information related to your duties, you
MUST make sure that you get clarification from a person who is well
trained with regard to the task you want to do. When necessary, you
or your representative must contact a Sandvik representative to seek
clarification as to how you should do the task.

If the rig was delivered in components or partly disassembled, finalize the

rig by assembling the detached parts and components. Observe the
following points:
• Use a proper assembly site (clean, good lighting, good hoisting
equipment, etc.).
• Use a proper tools and accessories.
• Check that the delivery contains all components.
• Install all bolts and fasten the connections carefully.
• Observe cleanliness when connecting hydraulic components and hoses
(prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system).
• Wash the rig before taking it into use.
• Lubricate all greasing points.
• Check the pressure accumulators for correct pressures:
- Brakes
- Retainer
- Rock drill
- Compressor hydraulic accumulator (if equipped)

WARNING! HIGH PRESSURE HAZARD!

A high pressure gas discharge could cause death or severe injury.
Service of the pressure accumulators is only allowed to persons
specially trained for this. The maintenance instructions for hydraulic
rock drill pressure accumulators must be followed precisely. Ignoring
instructions may cause risk of accidents.

Pressurize the pressure accumulators as instructed when needed.

• If the rig does not have the trailing cable installed by the factory, install
correctly sized trailing cable, cable connector, relief sock and cable
stopper.
• Adjust the limits of the cable reel after the cable installation according to
instructions in Maintenance Manual.
• Adjust the reeling hydraulics corresponding to the installed cable size.
• If the rig has multi-voltage options, setup the rig's multi-voltage
transformer correctly for the voltage of the main power supply center.
Installation of electrical devices is permitted only for persons with
appropriate training and the qualifications required by the authorities.

2.3 Visual inspection

Take the rig to a horizontally level area. By walking around the rig couple of
times, visually check the condition of the rig. Open the covers if needed.
Check that all components and devices are intact. Fix and document all
noticed quality issues with Start-up document before taking the rig to
operation.
• Check the rig for lacking parts/components.
• Check the covers and painting for cracks, dents and other damages.
• Check the air pressure and condition of tires of the rig.
• Check the rig for visible oil, fuel or coolant leaks.
• Check the hoses for squeezing or bending.
• Check the water hoses and water pump for freezing.
• Check that electric devices are intact.
• Check the electric cables and wires for squeezing and mechanical
damages.

2.4 Check fuel level and oil levels

• Check the oil level in the diesel engine. Oil level must be between the
min. and max. marks on the dipstick.
• Check the engine coolant level in the expansion tank. Coolant level
must be between the min. and max. marks on the sight glass.
• Check the oil level in the compressor. Oil level must be between the
min. and max. marks on the sight glass.

• Check the oil level in the differential gear.
• Check the oil level in the planetary gears.
• Check the oil level in the shank lubrication tank.
• Check fuel level in the fuel gauge.

2.5 Functional inspection

Functional inspection of the rig can be done after the rig is finalized, the
visual inspection and checking of oil levels are completed and the rig is
identified being in good condition from those parts.
Make sure the main power supply center is safe and suitable for rig's
electric system. Install the trailing cable connector, relief sock and cable
stopper to the cable before connecting the rig to main power supply center.
If the rig does not have the trailing cable installed by the factory, install
correctly sized trailing cable according to instructions in cable reel manual.
If the rig has multi-voltage options, setup the rig's multi-voltage transformer
correctly for the voltage of the main power supply center according to
instructions in Electric system technical manual.
Installation of electrical devices is permitted only for persons with
appropriate training and the qualifications required by the authorities.
2.5.1 Carrier functions
Inspection of carrier functions includes the functions related to tramming of
the rig.
• Make sure there is no service work ongoing on the rig or there are no
unauthorized persons near the rig.
• Check that the hydraulic control levers, if equipped, are in middle
position.
• Make sure that all emergency stop buttons have been released, the
electrical cabinet door is closed and the main switch Q1 is in position 1
(ON).
• Check that parking brake is engaged.
Start the diesel engine and continue as follows:
• Test the functionality of the emergency stop buttons.
• Start the diesel engine
• Walk around the rig and observe for oil leaks
• Monitor possible notices and alarms on the tramming display.
