SCRIPT MAGICIANS TWIN
RAE- Good day we are here to present our topic entitled “Magician’s twin: C.S. Lewis on
Science, Scientism and Society but before we formally start Iam Rae Fritz Dela Pena,

Intro Rae- “It s a book documentary by Clive Staples Lewis also known as C.S. Lewis
CS is a theologist is a knowledgeable person who professes or does anything related to or
about God. Considering who God is and defining what it means to believe in God.
The book he wrote give information and a message about his prominent approaches and
insights how magic is Related to science.
The researcher first conducted a short research on the topic entitled “Magician’s twin by Cs
Lewis After watching some documentary, from the Video we watched and exploring throughout
the web about the topic,
the researcher decided to focus on one of the three prominent approaches of C.S. Lewis that
science and magic are related.
That is Science as power
Overview
Xyron- For the overview of the book/documentary of C.S lewis
The Magician’s Twin is both a book and a three-part documentary series that explores C.S.
Lewis’s views on science, scientism, and society, including such controversial issues as
bioengineering, evolution, and intelligent design. Part one of the documentary series, C.S. Lewis
and the Case Against Scientism, explores Lewis’s prophetic concerns about the misuse of
science to “abolish” man and to undermine personal freedoms and human dignity. Part two of
the documentary series, C.S. Lewis and Evolution, examines Lewis’s growing doubts about
parts of Darwinian evolution, beginning with his views while still an atheist. Part three of the
documentary series, C. S. Lewis and Intelligent Design, will explore Lewis’s personal struggle to
find evidence of intelligent design in a world filled with cruelty, imperfection, and injustice.
The prominent approaches of the book is science as religion , science as credulity and science as power.
Objective
Eloisa- Scientism, as defined by Merriam Webster, holds that the only way to determine the
truth about the world and reality is by scientific means. The purpose of this topic is to inform
people about the dangers of science and how it might be compared to magic. Additionally, we
wished to persuade others and students like ourselves to learn more about the importance of
science in today's society.
Science As Power
Ar-jay-tapos ay transition papunta sa mga terms
IN TERMS OF TRANSPORTATION
Hi! I am Ar-jay Abanes and I will be tackling science as power in terms of transportation.
In the past, walking, running, and swimming were the only means of human
transportation. However, with the power of science, means of transportation became faster and
easier. From land to water to air, transportation has evolved throughout its 5,000-year history.
I decided to focus mainly on air transportation which is considered the safest means of
transportation. These include airplanes, fighter jets, helicopters, and spacecraft. [NEXT]
One of the most notable mankind creations that existed is the Concorde. It is the fastest
commercial plane in the world which has a cruising speed of 2,158 km/h. [NEXT]
Quick trivia: There was a Filipino PAL pilot named Capt. Jose “Pepot” Gonzales who
flew the Concorde from Paris to Manila. He is the very first Asian and the only Filipino to fly the
historic Concorde at supersonic speed! Wow! [NEXT]
Aside from that, mankind was also able to travel in outer space. [NEXT]
According to Britannica, the first human to walk on the Moon is the American astronaut
Neil Armstrong by boarding the Apollo 11 spacecraft.
With these two examples, it is already undisputable why C.S Lewis called his book “The
Magician’s Twin” because now we understand how Science has the power to make almost
anything possible.
And just like Neil Armstrong famously said, "One small step for man, one giant leap for
mankind," I firmly believe that all of these human inventions will inspire future generations to
learn more about science and the mysteries of the universe.
In terms of Energy Sources
Rae- Hi I rae Frutz delapena and I will discuss how science is powerful in terms in energy
sourceWithout energy sources life will be harder as we imagine. There would be no power
/signal /internet etc
On the other hand, having too many energy sources, infrastructure and power plants will be
absurd.
According to the study of Rinkesh Kukreja a participant of CEF Conserve Energy Future
LLC program (2017)
There are disadvantage of using too much energy sources will -First There is impact on
environment, this Can potentially pollute the air, soil, and water bodies
-increase of erosion, which leads to landslides and floods
-Requires large space that causes Force relocation of people and animals
-cost a lot of money and requires a lot of resources.
Although we know that we cannot stop the effect of using too many energy sources. According
to the Environmental protection Agency or EPA on JULY 13, (2022)
We can reduce the effect by conserving our energy sources .
Using energy more efficiently is one of the fastest, most cost-effective ways to save money,
reduce greenhouse gas emissions, create jobs, and meet growing energy demand.
and thats how powerful science interms of energy sources
It can lead people to suffer ,destroying environment just to gain money and controlling society…
In terms of Health- Kim
There would be no medicine without science. Well, science is the basis for both the existence of
medicine and the occurrence of disease.
Science and healthcare are closely intertwined, thus it's critical to design plans that will increase
the efficiency with which science is applied in the healthcare sector,
according to IPL.org. When it comes to health, science has a significant influence because it
provides us with hope. Science enables researchers to learn more about illnesses like HIV/AIDS
and unexpected outbreaks like COVID-19 to develop treatments.
We are all aware that COVID-19 has tormented us for the last two years and up until this point,
but thanks to science, COVID-19 vaccinations have been developed.
In this situation, we must recognize the power of science.
Science also develops disease-fighting vaccinations, treatments, and cures.
Infectious disease outbreaks and other new health problems may now be predicted, detected,
and tracked more effectively thanks to research.
Early detection is essential for developing a successful response and can be the difference
between an outbreak becoming an epidemic. Science is helping us better target health solutions
and optimize health programming to save lives.
Science, however, may have an impact on our health. Psychological and physical health
consequences are two of these effects.
Moreover, I think Covid-19 is a creation of scientists since they used the power of science. And
Eloisa will clarify it in a moment.
In terms of Communication
Josh- How powerful is science in terms of communication
The way humans communicate with each other has drastically changed, bakit? Its because of
social media. Madaming ways para mabigyan tayo ng impormasyon gamit lamang ang ating
mga gadgets. Information is always there when we seek it. but the amount we receive every day
is massive and not always accurate. According to Dr. Chinmaya Sadangi a neuroscientist
at university of Toronto. “In todays world, it’s not only pursuing science, but communicating
about it effectively is important.”
Ano nga ba ang science communication? Science communication is the practice of
informing, educating, raising awareness of science-related topics, and increasing the sense of
wonder about scientific discoveries and arguments. Each definition delivers insights into how
science and society are positioned.
There is a saying that If you don’t communicate the science, you may as well never have
done it. An important responsibility for any scientist is sharing their passion for their work and
its relevance to society. This means effectively communicating with other scientists both within
and outside their field, but also the general public or the layperson.
Why should a scientist have to explain their science to the layperson?
More than ever, science and technology pervade modern life. In order to make well-informed
decisions, about our health, our environment and even politics, we all need accurate unbiased
information. Pag dating sa science, ang mga scientist are the most direct and knowledgeable
source of information. Scientists also have the knowledge and credibility to counter
misinformation and misconceptions (“fake news”), which clutter public debate.
Importante sa scientists ang iinform ang public about important issues, complex problems and
new discoveries. This information can influence how the public votes at the next election, what
is discussed at the town hall meeting or community group, what causes they choose to support
and where they volunteer. Using targeted communication, scientists can also influence
government decisions related to regulation, science policy and funding, which can in turn have
an important impact on scientific progress. It is not a stretch to say na ang entire fate of
humanity could rest on scientists successfully communicating and collaborating to help solve
the problems that are facing mankind today. According to the study of SCIENCE
COMMUNICATION: JUST AS IMPORTANT AS SCIENCE by the spaced out scientists.
In terms of economy and Agriculture
Migs-
In terms of Politics
Loisa- How powerful science is in terms of Politics;
Science has been linked to the politics of society since the first person thought it was a
good idea to do research. When we cast our vote in an election, part of what we’re doing is
determining what will be prioritized in scientific research. The research of scientific information
in an ideal world would be wholly independent. At first, as a student, I was unaware of the power
that science have on the government. Because the majority of internet publications claim that
the government is so much more powerful than everyone else. However, the understanding hits
me hard, and my collection of data from my extensive reading helps me to approach science as
a force logically. Science is always a shadow that hides in the public, creating and we only feel
when they want to share something. However, because they are unable to handle such
controversies, the government hides information from the public when scientists reveal what is
happening in the world.
How powerful science is that the government are willing to pay.
The government is willing to pay for or delay some inventions so they are not seen in public,
demonstrating how powerful science is. The Water Fuel Powered Car, created by a Filipino
inventor named Daniel Dingel, is an illustration of it. A few knowledgeable people have used
water as a fuel source that has been scientifically verified to work to power cars, trucks, and
other types of machinery. Why are governments not pursuing water as a primary fuel source for
the car industry? Simple. because oil dependence causes the governments of the world to lose
tax income. The Philippine government, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the World
Bank have agreements in place that prohibit any kind of competition for the monopolies that
each of these institutions governs. As a result, the government has warned that an invention like
the water-powered car would not be welcomed.
How powerful science that government hadn’t have control over the virus.
Dr. Andrew G. Huff, a scientist who worked at a controversial research facility in China, claimed
in his book that COVID was a created virus that escaped from the facility. 2019 has been a year
of suffering for all of us due to the global spread of the Corona Virus. This misery has been
ongoing for years, not just months or years. Until scientists and researchers figure out how to
combat the alleged virus, the government has no idea. Politics genuinely informs scientists
about the cure for the aforementioned disease and the development of a vaccine that aids in its
eradication.
Conclusion
We discovered that science is capable of solving every problem in terms of politics, economy,
agriculture, energy, transportation, and health.
Science is capable of both positive and harmful outcomes. But whether humans utilize science
for their benefit or to benefit humanity, especially the earth, depends on how they use it.
We have what we have today because science has helped us to create and improve. I suppose
C.S. Lewis is correct that science and magic are twins because there is no such thing as an
impossibility in science.
