Job Title: Gynecology Medical Officer (Gynae MO)

Department: Obstetrics & Gynecology


Reports To: Head of Department / Consultant – OBGY /Unit Head

Job Summary:

The Gynecology Medical Officer is responsible for providing clinical care, diagnosis, and treatment to
patients in the gynecology and obstetrics department. The role includes patient examination,
management, counseling, documentation, and coordination with the healthcare team to ensure safe
and effective care for women’s reproductive health needs.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Patient Assessment & Consultation

 Conduct outpatient consultations and inpatient rounds for gynecology and obstetric cases.

 Take detailed patient history, perform clinical examinations, and order relevant
investigations.

 Diagnose and manage gynecological and obstetric conditions in accordance with hospital
protocols.

2. Patient Management

 Conduct rounds of every patient three times a day (morning, afternoon, and evening)
within duty hours 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

 Take care of the gynecology ward, ensuring close coordination with nursing and other
supportive staff.

 Prescribe medications, therapies, and procedures as required.

 Assist in deliveries, C-sections, and gynecological surgeries under supervision or as per


competency.

 Monitor antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal patients.

3. Operation Theatre Coordination

 Schedule OT plans in consultation with the gynecologist.

 Ensure pre-operative and post-operative care protocols are followed.

 Coordinate with OT nursing staff and anesthetists for smooth surgical workflows.

4. Emergency Care
 Attend to emergency cases including ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage, PPH (postpartum
hemorrhage), pre-eclampsia, and other urgent conditions.

 Provide first-line management and coordinate referrals if required.

5. Counseling & Education

 Counsel patients and their families regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, surgical
procedures, and preventive health practices.

 Provide education on family planning, contraception, maternal health, and reproductive


health.

6. Documentation & Reporting

 Maintain accurate and complete patient records, treatment notes, and discharge
summaries.

 Ensure compliance with hospital documentation and medico-legal requirements.

7. Team Collaboration

 Work closely with consultants, nursing staff, and allied health professionals to ensure
coordinated patient care.

 Participate in departmental meetings, case discussions, and quality improvement activities.

8. Compliance & Safety

 Adhere to hospital policies, protocols, and infection control practices.

 Maintain patient confidentiality and ethical standards of medical practice
