France is a country located in Western


Europe.

Known for its rich history, culture, and


beautiful landscapes.

Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower is one of the most iconic


structures in the world.
• The Eiffel Tower was built to honor the
centenary of the French Revolution, and was
intended to be a temporary structure.
• The tower has become the main symbol of Paris
and France. In addition to being part of the
official scenery featured in dozens of films set in
Paris.
• The tower has a secret apartment -Gustave
Eiffel reserved a private apartment at the top of
the tower, where he hosted famous guests like
Thomas Edison. It even had a science lab for
experiments.

LOUVRE MUSEUM

The Louvre Museum is the largest art


museum globally
• The Louvre Palace was begun by King Philip II in the
late 12th century to protect the city from the attack
from the West, as the Kingdom of England still held
Normandy at the time.
• The Louvre finally became a public museum during
the French Revolution. In May 1791, the National
Constituent Assembly declared that the Louvre
would be "a place for bringing together monuments
of all the sciences and arts".
• Home to the Mona Lisa, also known as La Gioconda,
is one of the most famous and iconic works of art in
the world, painted by Leonardo da Vinci in the early
16th century.

NOTRE DAME
CATHEDRAL

Notre Dame Cathedral is a masterpiece of


French Gothic architecture.
• Is a medieval Catholic cathedral on the Île de la
Cité (an island in the River Seine)
• In the 19th century, the cathedral hosted the
coronation of Napoleon and the funerals of
many of the French Republic's presidents.
• Notre Dame has ten bells and the largest of
them, Emmanuel, weighs over 13 tons.

French Cuisine

French cuisine is known for its sophisticated and


elaborate dishes, which use fresh, high-quality
ingredients and refined culinary techniques
• France is famous for its delicious cuisine,
including pain au chocolat, croissants, and
cheese. The country is also known for its wine
and champagne.
• Ratatouille- dish of stewed vegetables
(tomatoes, onions, courgette, eggplant, bell
peppers, garlic, fennel and basil or bay leaves and
thyme).
• However you prepare it, French onion soup is a
classic and will forever remain one of my
favorite foods.

Language and Culture

French is the official language of France.


France has a rich cultural heritage, including
fashion, art, and literature.
• Paris is center of an important number of fashion
shows. Some of the world's biggest fashion houses
(e.g. Chanel) have their headquarters in France.
• France is the country where cinematography
originated. In1895, the brothers Louis and Auguste
Lumière organized their first public screening and
showed ten of their films at the Grand Café in Paris,
one of the highlights of which was the filming of
workers leaving a factory in Lyon.
• Another extremely important figure was Georges
Méliès, who built his first studio where they shot
hundreds of films, “A Trip to the Moon” (1902), his
most famous work, considered the first narrative film.

The French have a tradition of having picnics in


unusual places, like on top of monuments or in
the street, and sometimes even with wine in the
bottle!
• France is the most visited country in the world,
with millions of tourists each year.
• France has more than 1,000 varieties of cheese.
• The French invented the hot air balloon in 1783.
• France is the country with the largest number of
châteaux, with over 40,000 castles spread across
its region.
