The Gospel is the good news of God’s Son, Jesus, coming to
the world in human form and dying to save people from
their sins. It started with God creating the world so his
creation would worship him. Then sin then came into the
picture and separated us from God. The penalty of sin is
death, and we cannot remove our sin on our own. Jesus paid
the price for our sin, when he came to earth, died on the
cross, and then rose again. Anyone who believes that truth
and puts their trust in Jesus alone will have eternal life. Life
with Jesus starts now and lasts forever!

The goal for this devotional is to show you how the eight
elements of the Gospel are relevant to your life. (These 8
elements are bolded throughout the devotional.) Each day,
you will read one or two of the elements along with
scriptures to support it and then answer related questions.
At the end of each day, there is a scripture coloring page to
accompany your reading. After completing this devotional,
you will have a better understanding of the Gospel, and how
it is important and relevant to your life.

ELEMENTS 1 & 2

NOTES: Welcome to the first day of this devotional! Today we are

talking about sin. To truly understand the gospel, you have
to know that we are all sinners. You must understand that
you are a sinner. It can be hard to believe, but you sin daily.
Whether you steal something or just tell a little white lie, you
are sinning. As this devo does on, we will talk about how
Jesus can forgive your sins.

The penalty of sin is death. Romans 6:23 states, “For the

wages of sin is death…” Because we sin, we deserve a
punishment. This penalty is death. No matter the sin, when
we disobey God, there is a penalty. We all deserve death
because of our sin. But this is where Jesus comes into the
picture. Jesus came to pay our penalty.

We are all people of sin. In 1 John 1:8, it says if we say we

have no sin, we are “fooling ourselves.” If you understand
and believe that you are a sinner, you are one step along the
path of salvation in Jesus Christ!

Read and answer the following questions. This is a time to
reflect and evaluate your personal relationship with Christ.

1. Is it easy for you to understand that we are all

sinners?

2. Reflect on the sin in your life. What sins do you

struggle with currently? Keep this in mind as we will
reference it later.

3. What is one way you can try to overcome this sin?

(ex. Asking someone to keep you accountable, ...)

ANSWERS:

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is
eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 6:23
ELEMENTS 3 & 4
NOTES: I’m sure you have heard of the idea that says good deeds can
appease your sin and can help you get to heaven. If you
perform good deeds your whole life, thinking it is forgiving
your sins, you are living a lie! The only way we can be cleansed
of sin is through Jesus. Good deeds won’t get you anywhere.
It’s Jesus who can make you clean from sin. Romans 5 talks
about how Christ came to die for those who are sinful and for
those who are good. He came to die for sinners, that means
everyone. Only Christ can free us from our sins. We are
incapable of saving ourselves without Him.

Our sin brings us further away from God. Isaiah 59 says, “It’s
your sins that have cut you off from God. Because of your sins,
He has turned away and will not listen anymore.” Even if it
seems a little harsh, it is true. Your sin brings you farther and
farther away from God. The book of Isaiah says that “We have
all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” Our sin
separates us from God. Imagine a ladder with God at the top.
we want to meet him up there, but. our sin makes us move
down the ladder away from God. Megan Fate Marshman said,
“Because God knew you couldn’t climb the ladder, He came
down to meet you by inviting you to respond.” God knows
that your sin separates you from him, so he sent Jesus to save
us from our sins, so we can be with Him.

Read and answer the following questions. This is a time to
reflect and evaluate your personal relationship with Christ.

1. Have you been told that good deeds will make up

for or appease your sin? If so, when?

2. Think of the sin you wrote about yesterday. How is

this sin bringing you further away from God?

3. How are you doing with trying to overcome this sin?

ANSWERS:

10
“But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to
die for us while we were still sinners.”
Romans 5:8
ELEMENTS 5

NOTES: In the bible, after sin enters the world, Jesus comes on the
scene. God sent His only son to earth to save His people from
their deadly sins. God wanted to mend the broken
relationship with His people through His son, Jesus. Jesus
was born into this world fully God and fully human. Jesus lived
the life God wanted Him too, and then He paid the ransom for
our sins. Let this sink in: Jesus never sinned, yet He chose to
die for all of us sinners. We deserve to die as sinners, but we
don’t have to because Jesus already paid the ultimate price.

After Jesus’ death, He was buried. On the third day, Jesus rose
back to life! Jesus conquered over death and the grave.
Because of the sacrifice He made for us, we can be saved and
forgiven. You just need to believe that Jesus lived, died, and
rose again. Romans 5 states that you need to declare and
believe that Jesus is Lord and that He died for you. If you do
this, you will be saved! When you put your faith and trust in
Jesus Christ, your broken relationship with God is mended.

Read and answer the following questions. This is a time to
reflect and evaluate your personal relationship with Christ.

1. Is it hard for you to believe or understand that Jesus

died for all sinners?

2. Do you believe that Jesus died and rose again? If no,

I would encourage you to take the time to pray and
believe in this truth. If yes, do you live like you
believe in Him?

ANSWERS:

“He is Risen!”
Luke 24:6
ELEMENTS 6

NOTES: Now that you understand that Jesus died and rose again for
our sins, we can talk about salvation. If you believe that Jesus
is Lord and that He died, you need to put your faith and trust
in Him. We are called to put our trust in God. Psalm 62:8 says,
“Trust in him at all times, oh people; pour out your heart
before him; God is a refuge for us.” Here it is saying that we
should trust God always because He is a safe place for us to
be. The Bible has many reasons why you should trust God: He
is your rock, He listens to you, He cares for you, He loves you,
and so much more. God is our Father. He loves us, so we
should love Him too.

Read and answer the following questions. This is a time to
reflect and evaluate your personal relationship with Christ.

1. When you think of God, what characteristics come to

your mind? (ex. love, forgiving, holy, etc.) Why do
you think of Him that way?

2. What is one characteristic of God that you’ve heard

about at church, in the Bible, or from others that you
struggle to believe?

3. Take some time and pray about putting your trust in

God Ask God to reveal Himself to you.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The
old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
2 Corinthians 5:17
ELEMENTS 7 & 8

NOTES: Jesus died for us on the cross. Even though he was perfect
and never sinned, He still died for all of us. Believing in what
Jesus did on the cross and what it symbolizes for us, will
bring us back into the right relationship with God. To get to
God, you have to go through Jesus and the cross. John 14:6
says, “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the
life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” Jesus
died for our sins so we can have a personal relationship
with God.

God invites you into a personal relationship with Him. To

do this, you need to confess to Him that you are a sinner and
in need of a Savior. Believe that Jesus came, died, and rose
again for your sins. Now you are welcomed into a personal
relationship with God. When you believe this, you will have
eternal life. This is such an important step in salvation and
believing in the gospel.

Read and answer the following questions. This is a time to
reflect and evaluate your personal relationship with Christ.

1. Take this time to read Romans 10:9-11, “because, if

you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and
believe in your heart that God raised Him from the
dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one
believes and is justified, and with the mouth one
confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says,
‘Everyone who believes in Him will not be put to
shame.’”

2. Have you taken that step in your walk with God? If

not, I encourage you to do so. Pray, confess, ask God
to forgive you, and put your faith in Him! If you have
already made that decision, I encourage you to take
this time and pray for those who haven’t that their
eyes would be opened.
