WAYS TO POTTY TRAIN A PET

Potty train, I believe, is a really familiar phrase for the anyone who has pet. Potty
training is a training I would recommend every owner to do it. So, what is potty
training? How can we potty train our pet? What is the process and requirements?
Today, I would like to talk about that topic, more specifically, is how to potty train
a puppy.
First, to potty train a pet in general is to teach your pet to use a right, chosen spot
for urination and defecation. It is an important process so that we can have a happy
life with our pets, because we never ever want to live with an animal, in my case is
a puppy, that will give us a huge and stinky mess in our house.
Next is the process to potty train a puppy or dog. First, the most crucial element is
to set a schedule that is suitable with a puppy’s age and bladder. Have a specific
time frame for different things puppy can do is a way to teach them when to eat, to
play, to sleep, and to do their businesses. In that way, we can easily get our puppies
into a routine that we have set. After we have a schedule, it’s time to choose a
potty spot for our puppies. Remember that don’t change this spot if unnecessary
and this spot must be a place where is far from traffic area, because it is really
important to make sure our puppies feel safe and comfortable with their potty spot.
Then, let’s put theory into practice with a bunch of tips. Every day, follow the
schedule, feed the puppy with an appropriate amount of food based on their
digestive system, let them play, sleep and get them outside to the place you have
chosen, at least one time for every two hours for them to go potty. You know, the
advantage of following a schedule is puppies will be more likely to eliminate in
consistent times, not just random time, which will give us more troubles. Also,
when you take your puppy outdoors, I would suggest you to do that with a leash,
because that will reduce the rate of puppies get distracted by other fascinated stuffs
and help them to easily associate with the spot in relief. On the other hand, another
tip for you is to use a verbal cue like “go potty” to help us to get the puppies go
potty. Puppies will identify the phrase and link that with a specific action. Finally,
remember that don’t underestimate the value of rewards. Give our puppies reward
after they have finished going potty, because that is a way to teach the puppies
know what we are expecting so they will try to do that in order to get a reward.
Also, be sure to give rewards after puppies have finished their businesses, not
during the time because that will make the puppies get distracted and not after they
have finished for a long time. That is the process. Last but not least, it will take
about 4-6 months in average for a puppy to fully potty-trained, or even a year for
some of the puppies. And the best age to start potty training for puppies are when
they are 8 to 16 weeks old, that’s the time they have a better bladder control. Or if
you adopt or buy from outside, I would recommend you to immediately potty train
your new pets when they come home.
That is the process. Now, these are some do’s and don’ts when potty train a puppy.
And because I just make many notes on the process, this is only a not long one.
First, be patient and consistent. Potty training requires your patience, because it
takes a really large amount of time for dogs to be fully-trained. Also, please stick
to the schedule. The more you follow it, the higher the chance your puppies are
trained in shorter period of time. Second, do use a comfortable crate. Well, it is not
really necessary, but I would recommend it because that will help puppies learn
how to hold on their urination and defecation because they won’t want their living
space, their crate, to be dirty. So, crate would be a nice choice when we are too
busy to supervise our pets. Next, don’t stop training to soon. We might get relax
and don’t pay much attention to the potty training when we see that our puppies
have gotten a control over their stuffs, don’t do that. It is still essential to continue
training our pets, because we need to make sure that the behavior that we want to
set for them in the training is forever sealed in their mind. Finally, don’t punish
your puppy. Punishment is made in order for puppies to memorize their mistakes
and not do that again, that is what we think. But actually, it will backfire. When a
puppy makes a mistake and we punish it, it will be scared and frightened, and that
feeling will stick to its head for ever. Later on, it may not be able to go potty in
your presence because of fear. So instead of punishment, what we need to do is
learn from mistakes and accidents. That will give us a better outcome.
In conclusion, potty training requires patience, consistency, and a truth and
understanding between the owner and puppy. That applies to other kind of training,
too. The most important tricks we need to know when you train your pet is: give
rewards, don’t give up, no punishment, and learn from failures. If you follow these
tricks and the process, everything will be fine. You will have a happy, enjoyable
life with your pet.
