Summary

This fic was written for the Oshamir Valentine Gift Exchange 2025 for LRRH17.
Many thanks to my beta LostElysium. You made this much better and your suggestions
helped a ton - especially with naming/titling.

I hope you enjoy the fic, LRRH17!

Melody

When he had found Mae, there had been a link. A connection. Mae had so much potential
and was half trained with a few defensive skills but no ideology except that witch idea of the
Thread. He had thought that she would be a perfect acolyte, someone to train, to mentor. The
Force had practically woven a melody around him when he met her. This one! When he had
attempted to train other students in the past, he had always stayed in the helm with the
students, relying on the respect that fear created. This time he felt compelled to follow, to be
her companion even with his identity hidden. He let his guard down around her and acted
silly, being the brother that she needed. Getting closer to her, learning about her.

Except she did not understand anything from his training. He thought he could nurture her
anger. It would make her powerful. She used her anger well. But she did not seem to
comprehend what he was trying to teach her about the Force. Wielding it. She allowed it to
support her, to enhance her, to protect her. But she did not seem to realize that the Force
could be used as an actual weapon. When she returned from killing Indara, he started to
acknowledge to himself that possibly Mae never would. And so, he took the place of the
apothecary, offered the poison and was disappointed when she took it. Why was the Force so
insistent about Mae? His curiosity was the only reason he was still training her, still following
her from planet to planet.

Countermelody – Olega

He pondered this as he waited in the alcove behind the counter of the apothecary. Mused
about what he should do. Though he knew she would use the poison, Mae had not returned...
She still did not understand. Mae’s force presence neared the shop, though it felt… off. Not
quite right or the same. He pretended nonchalance, the Force a background melody to him as
the person walked towards the counter. He heard Mae say hello and looked up, stopping for a
moment as the Force momentarily shook him with the strength of its refrain. He answered
her, continuing to try to act unconcerned even though his heart was racing. A double take, a
beat. All his concentration on her as he moved towards her, discarding his glasses and the
stupid item he had been looking at. He catalogued all the differences, acting as though he
knew her as someone else, as Mae. The change in outfit, the hair difference, the way she
spoke and moved. The Force kept insistently humming at him, but this was Mae. Right?
What had happened? As he put all of that together and looked her over, he realized. This was
not Mae, and he said it aloud. “You look exactly like her.” It was like a lightning bolt hit him
and he had to stop, thinking, searching. The Force was singing at him now. It was almost
intoxicating looking straight in her eyes and feeling the connection spring up between them.
As she broke away from the connection forming and raised the phaser she had been hiding at
him, he did not understand what was happening, and then there were Jedi. He hid beneath his
silly Qimir personality again… on but now he knew. This is what the Force had meant. Not
Mae. This one. The sister Mae constantly spoke about. Osha. Her presumed dead twin. He
now understood.

Polyphony - Khofar

When they arrived on Khofar, it felt like the Force started humming at him again. This was
the path. Just maybe if he played his cards right. He could see the link between the twins,
practically hear it as it ran below the theme. Maybe if one followed him, the second would
join the chorus. Was that asking too much?

He gently tried to push Mae towards understanding or, at least, the anger she needed to have.
He could almost see the plan she was starting to put together. They ran to the forest together
and he felt Osha’s presence as well as the Jedi with her as they did, and it was like each step
got closer and closer to his wishes being granted. They needed to hurry though; the Jedi
would catch up. He did not understand how she could not feel them in the Force. Or how she
did not understand anything. This was just something he would have to do himself.

He could read the plans Mae was making without even having to go into her mind. He was
distracted though, and did not expect the trap. As his wayward would-be apprentice ran off
after trapping him, he decided he was going to take a different approach. No more goofy
brother/friend. Osha. He really did not take that into account. It would have to be fear. Only
the mask at this point. As well, the barely-there link was growing. A bond. Something of a
strength he had never had with Mae. But just minutes with Osha was enough to have bound
them. This was what he had been looking for. But first... time to make an entrance. As Osha
turned to face him, he strode forward, their bond strengthening as he approached her. Fear,
fascination. Did she recognize the link; did she know what it was? This was perfect. Now to
get her out of the way of danger while he dealt with the Jedi.

He rejoiced in the battle, thankful that the helmet blocked out the link from her being able to
sense him. He got a bit distracted though, focusing on his prey. He had not been expecting the
phaser shot - thankful he had been wearing cortosis. He hunted her as she ran; after all, he
needed to show how powerful he was and see how resourceful she was. Sizing up his main
adversary between him and Osha: Sol. He had Mae’s stories though, and oddly, the man’s
emotions and thoughts were so unshielded, it was like he was broadcasting them. This would
work.

Then he felt Mae being captured. That would not do. She could not expose him. While it
would be delicious for her to expose Sol and his group’s lies, it would uncover him as well.
Mae’s death could be used. They all needed to die. Except Osha. He would find her. As he
battled the conflicted Jedi and his naive apprentice, he felt Osha make the decision to return.
No more hiding. The mask was off anyway.

It felt good to be revealed. To finally be himself. He regretted what was to happen, but
sometimes, you needed to start over. He could feel Osha’s thirst for vengeance against Mae
resounding through the bond. He used that to fuel himself against Sol. But when Osha
intervened… he could not resist the chance to plant more seeds of doubt. He knew they were
taking root by the rise in her emotions that he could sense.
When he saw the umbramoths coming for him, he had a quick thought. Clever girl. It
solidified his plans. As he fought, it was like a chorus sang into the Force as Mae and Osha
reunited. But the strife, the darkness threaded discordantly through the melody. He followed
the path towards where he had felt them, picking up his helmet and robes. He found Osha. He
smiled to himself as he realized what Mae had done. The Jedi deserved what Mae brought to
him. And to them. In the meantime, he had what he wanted.

He used a tiny bit of his own life force to partly heal Osha and left the planet with her. This
time, maybe honesty would work. She had already seen his face. and after all, sometimes, the
truth works better than any lie. He could work with this. The Force had bound them.

Counterpoint – Unknown Planet

He felt her wake. Her curiosity and worry as she found herself alone in a strange place. He
lifted his shielding enough for her to find him, though he was unsure how skilled she would
be in that area with Jedi training. In the meantime, he would continue about his day and see
how she reacted.

Her presence moved out of the cave and through the bond they have he knew that she was
watching him. The spike in interest that she pushed down briefly. He knew when she picked
up the lightsaber he left behind on the shore. He needed to start where he planned to go
forward as a teacher, but also, an equal. He remembered what it was like when he first left the
Jedi. That mindset. She had no idea how much the two of them had in common. Most of him
was sure, so very sure, how to approach this and the rest of him was terrified of going
forward. Yes, he could admit it. He’d been alone, really alone for so long. The personas he’d
had to wear with Mae. His life had been lonely. No partners. Bonds like they had needed to
be between equals. He would teach her, but she would be able to provide so much for him as
well. The Force had fated it. He knew it to be so, but Osha didn’t. But he’d rather Osha er
make her own choices. They were linked, and that meant their future was just that, theirs, but
he wanted her to come to him, to make those decisions of her own power.

He used his words and reached out. Connected. Used his body in a way that would get her
attention. Carefully touched her, trying not to hurt her. He’d been in the same place. It'd been
years, but maybe they could heal each other, comfort each other. He wanted more so badly
but it needed to wait. He’d tried to rush it before. But the need to connect, it was like the
Force was pushing him. But he also knew he needed to give her confidence in herself, if she
was anything like how he had been after leaving the Order.

When she put his helmet on, he felt it. He had no idea where it would lead. He knew she
would not be able to resist wearing it, but the fear, the pain, and the worry that he started to
feel from her, they also started to overtake him. As the emotions built, he felt like he could
lose her in the Force, it was overtaking her. He had to use their bond to reach her, to join her,
to remove the helm. But when she tells him what she saw, he wonders. Why would the Force
give me this, and show her that? He wanted to go to Mae, and he knew Osha would too. He
would follow the path and trust it would explain the bond. Help explain the connection with
Mae. The reason the Force has brought them together. Everything.
Climax - Brendok

As he and Sol duel, he hears the dark theme that is Osha and Mae come closer and closer
together. Either way, one of them would get their vengeance. He would take the Jedi in the
meantime and see who would triumph in the end.

He felt Osha’s rage unleash; the fury of her denial of the truth that Mae tells her. It was strong
and helped drive him as well. As the Jedi flew overhead, he knew this needed to be finished.
The Force was building like a crescendo around him and Sol, and around Osha and Mae. As
the saber was set to his throat, he accepted the end; but felt Mae’s anger as she came at Sol
from behind. He felt the vision; he pushed for it. But then, she surprised him. He listened to
Sol and realized. It is both of them. Their soul, the theme when together. He understands,
they are one, but separate. He’s not sure Sol understands though. The twins were still two.
Osha and Mae. Different personalities, different people. When they are brought together
though, they are stronger. It is not as Sol simplifies that they are meant to be one person. This
was why he felt drawn to both, but the connection, the full connection, was Osha. He needed
to explore this connection. He also felt Osha lurking from within the ruin, hearing Sol’s
confession. The Force built up around the four of them, sounding to him like an
overwhelming symphony. The cold anger, the control. The want, the need. It was as if the
universe stood still and rotated around only them, their themes mixing into one whole
composition.

He also felt as Mae finally understood. Osha's final step thundered through their bond; the
sound of heavy drums echoing through the universe. The anger. The shock. The grief. The
feeling of betrayal. It really was her all along. He reached out to her, his hand shaking unsure
as he remembered. Craving the touch but scared of it. The three of them together. The kyber
change. The realization from all of them. And then. Then. He had to hide. They all had to
hide. He ran but could sense the twins as they ran and followed them. Let the two reconcile.
She needed this. Needed to not repress her emotions. It would help. But he needed to move
them along. The three of them needed to not get caught.

Mae helped him along. But the connection between him and Osha, he felt it as she turned to
him. As Osha held her hand out to him, he handed her the saber that was now hers and could
not resist the touch to claim her as his. Just a gentle touch. It was more than he had in many
long years. They fled as he did as promised. A new beginning from a bittersweet ending. A
sacrifice that he would remember as well.

Outro in Harmony – Unknown Planet

He keeps giving her these sidelong glances, watching her carefully. He’d been doing so ever
since she accepted his offer and returned from Brendok with him. That first evening as she
stood on the rocks and looked out at the sunset, she could not help thinking about how they
got to this point. She was still so angry. He was so cautious as he moved to stand next to her.
She noticed his eyes on her, as if he was asking her for consent to come near. Then he
reached out, closing his hand over hers that was holding Sol’s lightsaber. Her lightsaber now.
She did not look at him, but also did not stop him either. It was comforting, the feeling that
she was not alone. His silent reassurance as they both looked out over the water. It was like a
warmth inside her soul. She does not understand what this is, but she is drawn to him.
Somehow, this is right. Like something complete. A thread that has bound them together.

It’s odd how gentle he has been with her when she has seen the fury he can fight with. She
does not know where this will go, what this partnership will be like. But she hopes he can
help her find a balance. The rage that killed Sol; it still drives her. She can still feel it. She
must know how he controls his. She sees his control in their interactions. The want as he
reaches out to touch her. Each time. She recognizes its twin inside her. But the fury still burns
coldly inside her, balanced by his warmth. The future before them; she needs to learn what he
can teach her.
End Notes

Prompts given:

1.) After so many years alone, Qimir is touch-starved, and also very unused to touching other
people without the intent to hurt them. That's why he is so gentle with Osha.
2.) A canon-compliant missing scene before we find out Qimir is the Stranger! I love when
we know that he’s not the silly guy he is pretending to be, but Osha doesn’t (yet).
3.) A Phantom of the Opera AU! Could be canonverse or completely AU. I think it would be
so cool if Qimir was both Raoul and the Phantom, and that's the big identity reveal!
4.) Canonverse, canon-compliant soulmates.
Obviously, I ran with #4 but used inspiration from the other 3 as well.
