1. INTRODUCTION
ABOUT :-
AutoCAD is a commercial software application for 2D and 3D
computer-aided design (CAD) and drafting available since1982
as a desktop application and since 2010 as a mobile web and
cloud-based app marketed as AutoCAD 360. Developed and
marketed by Autodesk, Inc., AutoCAD was first released in
December 1982, running on microcomputers with internal
graphics controllers. Prior to the introduction of AutoCAD,
most commercial CAD programs ran on mainframe computers
or minicomputers, with each CAD operator (user) working at a
separate graphics terminal. AutoCAD is used across a wide
range of industries, by architects, project managers, engineers,
graphic designers, and other professionals. It is supported by
750 training centers worldwide as of 1994. As Autodesk's
flagship product, by March 1986 AutoCAD had become the
most ubiquitous CAD program worldwide. As of 2014,
AutoCAD is in its twenty-ninth generation, and collectively
with all its variants, continues to be the most widely used in
CAD program throughout most of the world. Now there are
different versions of AutoCAD as given below :-

Version 1.0 ( 1982, December ), 1.2 ( 1983, April ),
Version 1.3 ( 1983, August ), Version 1.4 ( 1983, October
), Version 2.0 ( 1984, October ), Version 2.1 ( 1985, May
), Version 2.5 ( 1986, June ), Version 2.6 ( 1987, April),
AutoCAD Release 9 to 14, AutoCAD 2000 to AutoCAD
2021(Latest).
HISTORY :-
AutoCAD was derived from a program begun in 1977 and
released in 1979[5] called Interact CAD, also referred to in
early Autodesk documents as MicroCAD, which was written
prior to Autodesk’s (then Marinchip Software Partners)
formation by Autodesk cofounder Mike Riddle.
The first version by the AutoDesk company was demonstrated
at the 1982 Comdex and released that December.[8] The 2015
release marked the 29th major release for the AutoCAD for
Windows. The 2014 release marked the fourth consecutive year
for AutoCAD for Mac.
Design:-
File formats and versions
The native file format of AutoCAD is .dwg. This and, to a lesser
extent, its interchange file format DXF, have become de facto,
if proprietary, standards for CAD data interoperability.[citation
needed] AutoCAD has included support for .dwg, a format
developed and promoted by Autodesk, for publishing CAD
data.
Languages:

AutoCAD 2014 and AutoCAD LT 2014 are available for
English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Korean,
Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional and Brazilian
Portuguese, Russian, Czech, Polish, Hungarian will be
available later on. The extent of localization varies from full
translation of the product to documentation only. TheAutoCAD
command set is localized as a part of the software localization.
Extensions:
AutoCAD supports a number of APIs for customization and
automation. These include AutoLISP, Visual LISP, VBA,
.NET and ObjectARX. ObjectARX is a C++ class library,
which was also the base for: (a) products extending AutoCAD
functionality to specific fields; (b) creating products such as
AutoCAD Architecture, AutoCAD Electrical, AutoCAD Civil
3D; or (c) third-party AutoCAD-based application. There are a
large number of AutoCAD plugins (add-on applications)
available on the application store Autodesk Exchange Apps .

2. OVERALL INTERNSHIP FILE
MANAGEMENT :-
Manage drawings together with related project documents,
files, and communications in a unified project document
management system. An intuitive integration with Autodesk
AutoCAD allows you to:
Manage project files, including drawings, image files, X-Refs,
and other documents with a master-dependent file relationship.
Use Title Block values and other drawing attributes to
categorize files Improve collaboration with version notes,
notifications, and requests for approval on check-in. Use
AutoCAD drawing Title Block values to profile drawings on
import. Document Locator includes Profile Properties designed

specifically for use with AutoCAD drawing files. When applied
to AutoCAD drawings on import, these special
Properties read the information embedded in a drawing file’s
title block and uses it to profile the file in Document Locator.
AutoCAD Integration features:-

--Check drawings in and out, and undo check-outs

Dimensions & Annotations :-
To make annotative dimension style type DIMSTYLE on the
command line and press enter. A new dimension style manager
window will pop up, click on the new button on right side of
this window. Now give your dimension style a name, I am
naming it as “My Anno Dim” and check the annotative radio

button then click on continue.
Commands :-
Basic commands for action :- It’s important to get to grips with
basic actions you require from most computer software. From pasting
to spell check, here’s a selection of commonly required instructions:-

Basic commands for drawing :- This software is specifically
designed with technical drawing in mind, so you’ll find a wide range
of geometric shapes and sketching capabilities at your disposal when
working in AutoCAD. To save yourself the time of scrolling through
the library every time you need a particular line or solid, learn some of

3D commands :-
Layer Management :- In this command we can give different
color for the different objects or style. If layer naming standards
are not followed properly,then it becomes difficult (if not

impossible) to manage layers in a large drawing containing
hundreds of layers. These layer management tools, such as the
Property and Group filters, Layer States Manager and layer
property overrides in viewports, help in managing long lists of
layers by categorizing them in meaningful groups. And with
layer management techniques, it becomes easy to locate
required layers quickly and with ease.

3. ADVANTAGES OF AUTOCAD :-
Different advantage of using AUTOCAD are given below:-
Draw to Scale. One of the main benefits of AutoCAD is
that it allows you to draw to scale.
Easy Layout and Viewing.
Draw Accurately.
Make Changes Easily and Reduce Risk of Error.
Identify Design Problems.
Calculate Material Quantities for Production.
Store and Transfer Data Safely.
Save Time and Money.
3. DISADVANTAGES OF AUTOCAD
Expensive start-up costs.
Fully grasping the use of this software takes time.
The software needs a strong computer processing power.
The courses involving its training are expensive.
AutoCAD cannot freely edit lines and locations.
There are limited file formats.
Limit the number of possible colors.
Not really suitable for 3D.
It does not have parametric.
The program is too exact.

CONCLUSION
I have found the internship interesting as it provided us with the
necessary skills required by civil engineers in office. It was an
opportunity for me to interact with different people who
contributed their guidance to me. The consulting body directed
me towards tough tasks but those with appropriate practical
knowledge could have overcome the engineering problems
over the course of the internship. I gained not only practical but
also theoretical knowledge. If you go on internship with
highclass company or institution, you will get acquainted with
the translation of something in books into action. I learned what
do self-confidence, organizational skills, upgrade of theoretical
& practical knowledge mean to the engineer.
