A vessel for the Lord
Ephesians 2:10 NIV
[10] For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works,
which God prepared in advance for us to do .
God created us for a purpose...each one of us.
You need to be able to fit yourself into the plan that God has for you.
A saying “what God has for you is for you “ but if you know the nurture of
God this statement is not entirely biblical...
Look at David and Saul-Saul was anointed by the Lord and because Saul
was found unfaithful he raises up David
Look at Moses and Joshua-Moses was called by God but in his
disobedience God says you will see it but you shall not enter ,He raises up
Joshua.
If you stay Silent, God will raise another.
Becoming a vessel that is fit.
2 Timothy 2:20 NIV
[20] In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also
of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common
use.
Paul was writing to Timothy telling him,reminding him of the kind of vessel
that God is looking for .
Paul was picturing the church as a great house, filled with vessels,each
one being put to some kind of use.
Then Paul sets two different categories for the vessels in that great house
to be grouped into. He states that those vessels are either vessels of
honor and then there are vessels of dishonor.
The word “honor” means to be of high value, great esteem, and great
respect. So a vessel of honor was something very special and used for
special purposes.
The word dishonor means to lose honor, value, reputation, prestige. So a
vessel of dishonor would be a vessel that is not special nor is it used for
special purposes. A vessel of dishonor, I want you to understand that
since it is not special, is something we would consider to be common. Just
because the vessel is not used for special purposes that does not mean it
does not get used at all – it still gets used.
The vessel that God is looking for
1.A man/people that has an increasing great desire to know Him.
Daniel 11:32 NIV
Those who do wickedly against the covenant he shall corrupt with
[a]
flattery; but the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry
out great exploits.
It is impossible to save a God you do not know.
It is impossible to be passionate about a God that you do not know.
God is looking for people that are ready to pay the price to know Him.
John 17:3 NIV
[3] Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and
Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
We know God by studying His character, we know God by studying His
power ,we know God by studying His ways.
God gave us the advantage of scripture the advantage of the Holy Spirit,
he gave us the advantage of teachers to work together in our knowing
Him.
The knowledge of God demands your time,demands you devotion,
demands your study of the Word, your fellowship with the Spirit in prayer
and worship.
There is no gift of the study of the Word,there is no gift of prayer...the
Bible calls it labor.
2.A man/people who truly Loves God.
The more you know God,the more you love him.
Love is enhanced by knowledge
Matthew 22:36-37, 39 NIV
[36] “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” [37]
Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all
your soul and with all your mind.’
It is your all that should respond to loving Him,not some but all.
Eph 3:17-19
Ephesians 3:17-19 NIV
[17] so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that
you, being rooted and established in love, [18] may have power, together
with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and
deep is the love of Christ, [19] and to know this love that surpasses
knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of
God.
There are 3 proofs from the word of God that shows you love Him
1)He becomes your priorObed
2)Obedience -It is better than any sacrifice that you can make.
Deuteronomy 10:12 NIV
[12] And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear
the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the
Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul,
John 14:21 NIV
[21] Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves
me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love
them and show myself to them.
3)love for the brethren
1 John 4:20 NIV
[20] Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For
whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen,
cannot love God, whom they have not sseen
Not a love that is circumstantial.
You can not love Christ and hate his body.
3)Holiness
2 Timothy 2:21 NIV
[21] Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for
special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any
good work.
The word holiness here means to be sanctified, set apart.
To separate from profane things and dedicate to God.
Those that are holy are the ones that God uses for extraordinary purposes.
They have been set apart from worldliness and sin, consecrated and
dedicated for His holy works. When one is set apart, there is a visible
difference obvious to those around them. They are not one that is
influenced by culture, rather they influence culture – like a light in the
darkness. It is His presence in their life that separates them. When God’s
presence is on you, His extraordinary ability is functioning in you. This is
why the enemy has done everything in his power to get the church away
from holiness.
Jesus gave His life for this purpose of making you holy and He is returning
for a church that is nothing less than that (Ephesians 5:25-26). This is why
we are instructed to actively, “Pursue peace with all people, and holiness,
without which no one will see the Lord” (Hebrews 12:14 NKJV). We are
called to pursue holiness!
4.Commitment and determination to serve God.
Romans 12:11
Romans 12:11 NIV
[11] Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the
Lord.
Fervent in Spirit serving God.
Serving God is to be an active part in activating God’s will,
God is looking for man who are willing to serve him with their time,with
their energy,with their finances
[39] And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.
