Concept generation

After barnstorming the number of ideas came up which were analysed and discussed among the
team to come up with a best one . The criteria of choosing the particular design was based on some
major requirements of customer, cost factors, performance factors and also some exciters.
Following are some of the ideas explained briefly –

A. The propeller car- The main working principle of this toy car was to get the car into motion
using a propeller . The propeller was directly connected to motor which was rotated using
batteries . The speed of vehicle could be controlled directly controlling the speed of motor.
The shortcoming if this idea was that propeller size was required to be large enough to move
the car and to rotate large propeller more power was needed. Bothe these factors lead to
increase in weight for very less increase in speed.

B. The balloon car- A very common idea of the toy car and easy to build is ballooned car. The
balloon is attached to the car with its mouth facing backwards of the car. The pressurised air
forces the car to move in opposite direction . In this the wheel and axle are required to be
friction less and overall weight to be very small so that it can be easily moved using a
balloon. This idea was not considered because of its constraints of weight and performance.

C. The belt driven car- The wheels of the car were directly connected to the motor with help of
belt as shown in fig. Alignment of wheels was major requirement in this design. As if the
wheels were not aligned the belt tends to slip of the wheels and hence vehicle fails to move
any further. The two motors could also be used to make it a four wheel drive just as an
exciter feature.

D. The motor and gear driven car.- This is the simple mechanism of rotating the wheels of the
toy car using gears that are further rotated using the motor. To reduce the high rpm pf
motor gear reduction setup is used .

 The above design (D) is considered for the final design of the car. The gear reduction
gives us controlled speed and at the same time high load carrying capacity. The
construction of the car is quiet simple. It can either be front wheel and rear wheel
drive . If we control the speed accurately it can also be built as four wheel drive
using two motors. One more feature of the car is that it can be reversed by just
reversing the connections to the battery. So the car can be used in either of the two
directions. The aesthetics are improved using a vintage car design and to make it a
bit unique design , the tyres are used of that of a monster truck. This gives it a cool
look of a vintage monster truck.
