QN.NO SECTION A: (READING SKILLS) 10marks

1. Read the passage carefully.
(1) The importance of mental health has gained increased recognition in
recent years, particularly among students and young adults. Academic
pressure, social expectations, and the constant presence of digital media
contribute to rising levels of anxiety, depression, and emotional
exhaustion. According to a recent survey conducted by the National
Institute of Mental Health, nearly 1 in 4 adolescents in India experiences
some form of psychological distress.
(2) Unfortunately, the stigma surrounding mental health often prevents
individuals from seeking help. Many students fear being judged or
misunderstood, leading them to suppress their emotions. This can have
long-term consequences, including declining academic performance,
strained relationships, and even serious health issues.
(3) Educational institutions have a significant role to play in promoting
mental well-being. Incorporating regular counseling sessions, peer support
groups, and mental health awareness campaigns can make a substantial
difference. Teachers and parents must also be trained to recognize early
signs of distress and respond with empathy rather than criticism.
(4) While awareness is growing, access to professional help remains limited,
especially in rural areas. Therefore, it is essential for government and
community initiatives to focus on expanding affordable mental health
services. As society begins to acknowledge that mental health is just as
important as physical health, it paves the way for a more supportive and
understanding environment for future generations.
