c. Show willingness to live a life of purity

CONCEPT NOTES

Human sexuality is a part of a man’s whole personality which includes attitude, values, feelings, and relationships
with oneself, with others, and with the opposite sex. According to Vitaliano Gorospe, SJ, it is “the way of becoming a man or
a woman and hence it is not simply a matter of biological fact but a freely chosen personal task to be achieved in one’s
future.”
There are four dimensional levels of human sexuality:
 Pleasure and Satisfaction
 Procreation and Multiplication
 Expression of Love and Commitment
 Expression of Friendship and Companionship

ISSUES
Pornography- derived from the Greek word, “pornogrophos” from porne, which means “harlot” or “prostitute” and
graphein, which means “to write”, pornography commonly refers to the explicit depiction of erotic behavior through literature,
pornography, movies, and so on, and is aimed to stimulate erotic feelings. Pornography could be classified as hard-core or
soft-core. Hard-core pornography depicts explicit and intense erotic content, while soft-core pornography pictures erotic
materials that are more titillating than explicit.
Homosexuality- (homo means “same”) is generally defined as a sexual inclination towards the same sex. There are three
levels of homosexuality from a moral standpoint: tendency, attraction, and activity.

Premarital Sex- refers to an act of sexual intercourse between a man and a woman who are yet to receive the Sacrament
of Matrimony.

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY?
That is why a man leaves his father and mother and clings to his wife, and the two of them become one body. The man and
his wife were both naked, yet they felt no shame. (Genesis 2:24-25)

“if a man lies with a male as with woman, both of them shall be put to death for their abominable deed; they have forfeited
their lives.” (Leviticus 20:13)
Let us live honorably as in daylight; not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual excess and lust, not in quarreling and
jealousy. Rather, put on the Lord Jesus Christ and make no provision for the desires of the flesh. (Romans 13: 13-24)
WHAT DOES THE CHURCH TEACH?
“Sexuality, by means of which man and woman give themselves to one another through the acts which are proper and
exclusive to spouses, is not something simply biological but concerns the innermost being of the human person as such. It
is realized in a truly human way only if it is an integral part of the love by which man and woman commit themselves totally
to one another until death.” (CCC No. 2361)
Many people nowadays do not have the right idea of what sex is all about. Some consider sex as a thing used primarily for
pleasure or self-gratification. Others think that sex is used merely for premarital sex or even unwanted pregnancy are
ccontinuouslyincreasing today, particularly among the youth. God created humans with sex, for a good reason. With sex,
human beings can express intimately their love for their respective spouses. Moreover, they could also help God in
procreation. Sex, therefore, is not just good. It is sacred. However, the only occasion a person can rightfully enjoy thye
privileges of sex is in marriage. Outside marriage, isolated from its procreative and unitive purpose, the use of sex is already
sinful. That is why the church considers such acts as extramarital sex, prostitution, masturbation, and pornography immoral.
Lovers have the wait until marriage before they have sex. The reasoning that they do love one another will not just any
sexual activity that they do. The moral thing to do is to wait for the right time and the right is in sacramental marriage. The
famous saying is very true: “True love waits.”

Values Integration:

There are lot of societal issues we are facing and needs to be addressed within our community. We have to be
extra careful in our attitude, values, feelings, and relationship with ourselves. These signs will determine our strong
fath that our relationship to God is factual. Nevertheless, these signs will lead us to failing if we will not pay
attention to it. As learners in 21st Century, upholding marriage as sacramental is pivotal to make a stand that it is
right way before having sexual intercourse between spouses.
