Chapter 2
[Welcome to ‘The tower of destiny’]
The red screen blinked again, as if it was beckoning Adam to read it.
Adam groaned to himself, but he didn’t have any other choice. Pushing the ground
with his palm, he straightened his limping body and sat properly.
[To check your status, say ‘status’ in your mind.]
‘Did I reincarnate into some kind of game?’ Adam mused, but he hadn’t heard any
game called ‘the tower of destiny’ in his entire life. He even barely had the time to
play video games.
‘I need to find a way to get out of here…sigh…’
He throwed the emotional turmoil that was going on his mind to one side and
focused on his survival.
‘Status.’
[ Name: Adam
Title: Successor of???
Age: 16
Race: Demon
Health: 20 Strength:10 Speed: 10 Agility: 10 Intelligence:12
Skills: none ]
“Demon?” Adam’s mouth opened wide. He is a demon? How? Why?
His brain was running like a bullet train, calculating different possibilities but he
couldn’t find any answers. His parents had died in accident a few years ago and
they never told him that they were demons, nor did he ever doubt. There wasn’t
anything abnormal about his family.
‘Wait…parents…were they even my real parents?’
Not in his entire life had he ever thought about this question, there was never need
to. He looked similar to them, and they treated him like his own son. So how was he
a demon?
It was only then when his eyes went toward his title, ‘Successor of???’ What did that
mean?
‘Lots of questions and not one answer…sigh…’
And the system wasn’t really like the system he had read in the novels, it was just
like a game. It didn’t answer any of his queries, so it wasn’t of much help except for
seeing his stats.
He stood up and all the bones creaked in this body as if they were rearranging
themselves, but it didn’t hurt this time. He felt like his body had gotten stronger
compared to before, but he didn’t know how strong. He had the stats, but he didn’t
have anything to compare it with.
[The trial for entry in the tower will start in 1:00 minutes…]
The notification ringed inside his brain again.
“What trial?” He asked but again, there was no answer.
Sighing in defeat, he looked around but there was nothing except him himself and
the cylindrical bluish barrier that caged his from all around.
‘I’m fucked!’
He was frustrated, the more the timer went down the more anxious he was getting.
Whatever the trial was, he could tell that it wasn’t going to be any good.
“At least give me a weapon goddamit!!”
[…3…2…1]
‘It was a good life…’
He smiled wryly, fully ready to face some hoard of monsters but nothing like that
happened. The blue barrier dissipated away, and he could finally see what was
going outside.
He was in the field of a colosseum, around half kilometer wide and surrounded by
the walls twice of his height. The seats of the colosseum were empty, not even a
single flesh could be seen through the arena.
He looked upwards and the blood red moon hanging in the sky was directly staring
at his soul. The metallic scent of blood entered his nose, sending a cold shrill
through his spine.
“Just what the fuck is this place…?” He took a few steps backwards taking in
everything. The place seemed like a haunted grave without any life. Forget humans,
there weren’t even signs of birds and trees.
[Trail: The test of courage
-Face your greatest fear and you shall pass. Shall you fail the test,
beneath this ground your soul shall rest…
Time: 02:00 minutes ]
Adam’s eyebrows arched upward, ‘My greatest fear? Death?’
What else would he be afraid of except dying? But if he had to die, then what’s the
point of test?
Little did he know how wrong he was…
[The trial starts now.]
Just as the message disappeared, Adam felt the ground below him shaking violently.
A few cracks appeared on the ground extending towards his feet at a rapid pace.
Adam’s heartbeat quickened, he hurried towards the edge of the ground not
wanting to be swallowed by the giant cracks.
“Fuck! Fuck! FUCKKKKKKKK!!”
He dashed hastily toward the walls, and he was already starting to breath heavily.
His heart was stuck in his throat as he nearly tripped on his own feet.
He felt a slight relief as he reached the wall. Lying against the wall he anxiously
turned around. There was no point in running in a circle since no matter where he
ran, the thing that was coming out from the center would reach him easily.
*SCREECHHHHHHHHHHHH!!*
A loud scream erupted from beneath the ground, shaking the very air. Only the
shockwaves from the sound blew Adam back, pressing his body against the wall.
‘Where the fuck is the timer??’ He screamed inwardly. Forget two minutes, he was
struggling to last even two seconds against whatever that monstrosity was inside
the ground.
Suddenly, the earth exploded upwards, the chunks of the rocks and debris soaring
into the sky. And from the giant hole, something horrifying and enormous began to
emerge. A leg, as black as obsidian, sharp and jagged like the teeth of the predator,
broke through the surface. Following it emerged another one, each of them as wide
as Adam’s body and ending so sharp that it could tear a human in half.
The legged struck the ground, pulling its body outwards. The creature’s abdomen
was a twisted, grotesque sphere covered in a mix of jagged, pulsating veins and
thick, spiky hair. The thing was massive—towering over a hundred meters high—its
bulk casting an impossibly large shadow over Adam, swallowing the light around
him.
*SCREEECHHHHHH!!!*
The creature that looked like a giant spider released a deafening scream as it’s
hundreds of eyes gazed at Adam. It’s eight legs crawled with surprising speed
towards Adam and it’s fangs clanged menacingly.
[01:59…58…]
Adam’s body was trembling in fear. He wanted to curse the system so loud, but he
was afraid he would provoke the monster even more.
‘Your greatest fear my ass! ANY SANE PERSON WOULD BE AFRAID OF THAT THING’
Sweats streamed down like a river as he slowly tried to move away but that
monster was too fast.
In a matter of seconds, it was just a meter away from Adam. It raised its front leg
and slashed down directly at Adam.
*Clanggg!*
The sound of its leg striking the rock echoed through the arena. The monster looked
at it’s leg hoping to see Adam’s corpse but there was nothing.
[ 01:46…45…]
Adam who barely dodged the claw looked at the timer but there was no hope. He
didn’t even bother to look back, he ran, ran as fast as he could taking the chance
when the spider was distracted.
As he ran towards the other side, he saw few rusty weapons on the huge crater that
the spider emerged out from.
‘Were these buried inside the ground?’
*Screeeeeeeee!!*
The spider cried in anger as it chased Adam.
‘Fuck! I need to reach the weapons somehow!!’
Adam dodged another strike of the claws and looked at the crater carefully. The
stones and rocks were large enough to be used as the steps so that even if he
jumped in he could get out.
Running around didn’t seem to be the option, the strikes from the spider’s claw was
completely deforming the ground. It would be hard to run soon enough.
“FUCK!”
Adam shouted as he jumped into the crater. If he was going down anyway, he’d go
down with a fight.
