INTRODUCTION

About 70% of women worldwide are affected with candidiasis. Candida albicans is the most common disease-causing fungus. It is a normal
inhabitant of the oral cavity, gastrointestinal tract, and vagina in many people. Women with a healthy vaginal harbor Candida but are
asymptomatic. Certain conditions favor the change from an asymptomatic state to colonization with symptoms.

GENERAL OBJECTIVE

At the end of the lecture/discussion, the students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of Candidiasis and its management.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE

At the end of the lecture/discussion, the students should be able to:

1. Define candidiasis.

2. State the predisposing factors.

3. Mention the signs and symptoms.

4. Outline the management of candidiasis.

5. State the preventive measures of candidiasis.

CONCLUSION

The prevalence of candidiasis continues to be a public health problem worldwide. It affects mostly women rather than men who are usually
asymptomatic. If the immune system is functioning optimally, this type of yeast infection is rarely serious but if the immune system is
dysfunctional the infection may migrate to other organs of the body.
