Patient Information Handout

- Condition: Acne:

- Natural Remedies:
- Tea tree oil - Apply diluted (5-10%) oil to pimples 1-2 times daily (never use undiluted directly)
- Clay mask (Multani mitti) - Use on clean skin for 15-20 minutes, twice weekly to absorb oil and reduce
inflammation
- Aloe vera gel - Apply at night to clean skin for soothing and healing
- Green tea rinse - Apply cooled brewed green tea to skin 1-2 times daily to calm inflammation

- Over-the-Counter Medicines:
- Benzoyl peroxide 5% - Apply once daily to affected areas (may dry skin moisturise after use)
- Salicylic acid wash - Use a 1-2% salicylic face wash once daily to exfoliate and clear pores

- Warnings:
- Avoid excessive washing or harsh scrubs. Do not pick or pop pimples to prevent scarring. -

- When to See a Doctor:


Dermatologist consultation recommended for cystic, scarring, or emotionally distressing acne.

- Diet Advice:
- Reduce dairy (especially skimmed milk), sugary foods, and refined carbs. Include omega - 3s (flaxseed,
walnuts, salmon), zinc-rich foods (pumpkin seeds, lentils), and antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables. Stay
hydrated and avoid greasy food.
