a) Using a diagram to support your answer, describe a modern SOV (Service Operation
Vessel), indicating key details, dimensions and capacities.
b) Describe the significant features and work scope of this vessel.
c) Describe the world regions where these vessels are utilised, using the world map
provided to support your answer.
2. Identify FIVE cargoes that are commonly transported by supply vessels to offshore
installations. Describe their use, methods used to ensure safe carriage and how they are
transferred to and from an installation.
3. Explain FOUR of the following terms:
i. MHHA
ii. Lay-up
iii. Taut Wire
iv. Moonpool
v. OCIMF
vi. LARS
4. OVID and CMID are regularly encountered in offshore operations. Define these terms and
explain their purpose and significance.

5. When fixing a vessel on time charter, discuss what incidents may place a vessel ‘off hire’ and
how this would relate to the charter terms. How would a charterer seek protection from the
vessel under-performing?
6. Describe how operation, maintenance and service (OMS) functions are generally undertaken
in support of an offshore windfarm with particular emphasis on crew transfer arrangements.
7. Discuss the regulatory framework and application of offshore industry standards that ensure
effective safety management provision is established and maintained within the OSV
industry.
8. Explain the range of services an offshore broker can offer and discuss how a broker can add
value and remain competitive in the modern offshore market.
