PART 2: WRITING

1. In spite of the advances in medicine, many people around the world still die of easily
preventable diseases. Why is this the case? What can be done about this problem?

Over the past few decades, there is a tremendous increase in the number of people questioning
modern medicine's efficiency. One of the main reasons for this worrying trend is due to the fact that
some essential treatments are pricy. However, there are solutions readily available to tackle this
problematic issue, such as financial aid from governments.

To begin, there is an argument to be made that it has always been challenging for people, especially
the poor, to afford medical care, simply because they are extremely expensive. For example, the
average visit to a doctor in the USA usually cost 100-300 dollars, while the minimum wage per hour is
merely 7 dollars. For this reason, it is evident that innovations alone could not enhance the survival
rate of a person, other factors such as money also play a significant part in it. What is more, an
unjustified salary of health care providers also results in a shortage of workers in the fields, allowing
more room for mistakes which may lead to the death of the patients. This being the case, it can be
assumed that if people are not in a position to take advantage of it, any breakthrough is meaningless.

In order to resolve this troubling issue, one viable solution would be for governments to partially
subsidize hospital bills for the people. For example, in Thailand, there is a campaign where patients
only respond for half of the price and the other half will be covered by the states, ensuring citizens
obtain necessary medical attention. Therefore, it is clear that the government can greatly reduce such
incidents by enforcing laws or policies, as this could be sustainably done.

Furthermore, other forms of support such as scholarships or salary raise could encourage people to
attend medical schools, increasing the number of medical staff in the workforce. With this in mind,
there is no doubt that people stand a better chance of recovering if governments step up and
financially support them.
In conclusion, the overwhelming evidence seems to suggest that money is one of the major
explanations as to why some basic illnesses can still be life-threatening. However, it is still possible to
turn the tide if the government come forward with plans aiming to free citizens from financial burdens.

2. Nowadays, more and more people decide to have children later in their life. What are the
reasons? What are the effects on society and family life?

In recent years, more and more people are choosing to have children later in life. This change is
driven by a variety of factors and while there are pros and cons to this trend, the benefits generally
outweigh the cons. However, delaying parenthood is not without its drawbacks. Older parents can
experience health problems, both during pregnancy and as they age, which can affect the health of
their children.
One of the main reasons for delaying parenthood is the desire for career and financial stability. Many
people value self-actualization over starting a family. The trend today is that people should think about
having children after achieving a certain level of success. Achieving a certain level of success will
bring financial security and more confidence in their own financial situation, which can lead to a better
quality of life for their children.

Furthermore, people are now more focused on personal development, often taking time to travel,
pursue higher education, or achieve personal goals before taking on the responsibilities of raising
children.
Another factor is increased life expectancy and advances in healthcare, which allow people to have
children at an older age with fewer health risks. Medical advances, such as infertility treatments, have
made it possible for women to conceive later in life, thereby reducing the pressure to start a family
early.

In short, while having children later in life can bring challenges, such as health problems and potential
generational gaps, the advantages of financial stability, personal fulfillment, and medical advances
tend to outweigh the disadvantages. These trends reflect changing societal values and priorities,
ultimately making families feel more prepared.
3. Some universities offer online courses as an alternative to classes delivered on campus. Do
you think this is a positive or negative development?

In the modern day, there are numerous universities that organize a variety of online classes and
alternative face-to-face on campus. From my perspective, despite the drawbacks, this is also a
positive phenomenon that improves educational quality.
Initially, it is an undeniable fact that providing a class on campus is vital.

One of the main reasons can be understood is the lack of interaction between students and
instructors. Setting up an online course may demand huge attention to grasp advanced knowledge.
Moreover, without direct interaction from teachers, pupils may find it harsh to keep motivation,
depriving students of academic interest during the program.
As a result, without a competitive environment, a student can not develop their academic program in
the best way.

Despite the negative potential, the advantage of taking part in a course through digital devices can
bring numerous great abilities. First and foremost, it can be realized that online courses apply a
flexible way to learn. Bearing a laptop or a phone which can access the internet, we can instantly join
a class that is not required from any location. Furthermore, a variety of documents on many
universities' websites can bring a vast amount of advantages if students utilize these properly. For
example, Harvard University is known as one of the best universities in the world. However, they have
their own website that provides a variety of courses that any person can approach, learn and practice.

In conclusion, although organizing an online course may diminish the quality of education, the
potential of studying innovation is also not skipped. However, taking advantage and minimizing the
drawbacks are important if a student is willing to get a better result throughout studying progress.

4. In some cultures, children are often told that they can achieve anything if they try hard
enough. What are the advantages and disadvantages of giving children this message?

In some culture, children are frequently taught that they can succeed in anything they want by putting
in enough effort. This probably benefits children as it encourages them to follow their dreams
ambitiously; however, it also has some drawbacks, leading pupils to be disappointed when they
cannot achieve something.

On one hand, Telling children that achievements come from putting in much effort allows them to
think and dream bigger, leading to more success in their lives. There is a well-known theory namely
‘growth mindset’ which encourages juveniles to try hard and believe in the process. This results in
children in the growth mindset culture to push themselves and set more challenging goals. For
example, younger students who do not have a growth mindset may set their target universities as only
what they are already familiar with; in contrast, those who believe in trying to want to apply to top-
ranking universities.

On the other hand, if children relied on their efforts purely but did not reach the point they wanted,
they would be desperate. Being successful does not actually depend on effort solely, there are many
factors affecting achievements such as funds, opportunities, and timing. If children do not consider
those points and believe in themselves too much, they will be disappointed dramatically and this can
lead to more dangerous situations such as suicide. For example, the number of children killing
themselves in the countries that push them and pressure them too much is much higher than those
that do not.

In conclusion, while telling children that they can reach their goals with enough effort can help them
set more ambitious goals and lead to be more successful in their lives, they can be disappointed by
not considering other factors
5. Some people think that robots are very important to human’s future development. Others
think that they are dangerous and have negative effects on society. Discuss both opinions and
give personal views.

There are opposing views about robots. While some people believe that robotics will play an integral
in the future, others argue that it has an adverse bearing on society. Both of the aforementioned
perspectives will be discussed in the following paragraphs with the reasons behind this.

On the one hand, some people believe that the proliferation of robotics engineering will have far-
reaching effects on every aspect of life. This is due to the fact that robotics technology has the ability
to drive economic productivity. Automated machines and processes are set up to operate consistently
and accurately without needing to rest. Additionally, since its inception, the quality of human life has
improved with a host of means to help people in daily boring tasks like household chores. For
example, robot cleaners and bionic limbs help ones reduce manual work and usher in an era of
technology

On the other hand, some people still have a widespread concern about the threat of robots. The
underlying rationale behind this is that robotics technology will increase unemployment rate. A host of
labour-intensive tasks will be replaced by robots such as drivers, workers, and even doctors.
Moreover, the doomsday scenario will become a reality when machines will outsmart their creators. In
other words, every citizen will become slave of machines if we are too dependent and passive on
technology.

In conclusion, the benefits of robots are undeniable. Although it has certain risks for society, its
contributions to human progress are enormous and remarkable.

6. Scientists generally agree that the consumption of junk food is detrimental to health. Some
people believe that the answer to this problem is education. Others disagree, saying that it will
not work. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Nowadays, studies showed that long-term consumption of unhealthy foods potentially be detrimental
to one's well-being. Therefore, some individuals said teaching about a healthy habit is a method
towards a healthy lifestyle. However, some people are opposed to such idea. I believe that the public
should learn how to maintain a healthy eating habit to prevent getting sick.
First and foremost, educate is a best way to bring awareness to the societies about the significant of
balanced diets, especially from an early age. if children exposured such knowledge from a young age,
it will encourage them to choose a healthy diet. For example, a school educational initiative promotes
conciousness about the harmful effects of junk foods to our body.
In addition, when educating someone about the healthy foods, it can change a person's attitude and
behaviour on fast foods. For example, the public campaigns can reach a wide audience by promoting
self-cooked meals and ways of preparation of foods are much more cheaper and healthier than
convenience foods. On top of that, it lower the cost of living by lowering the demand of healthcare
services to treat sick people.
On the other hand, these days, many advertiments have creative ideas on convincing their targets to
buy their products. Sometimes, they are not afraid to mislead their customers in terms of profits. For
instance, fast foods like fried chicken is unhealthy food but when such ads is advertising to the
audiences, they often displays it as healthy food because of the ingredients in it are nature and no
chemicals been used. However, I believe that this action can easily be addressed nicely by educating
the people.
In conclusion, although advertiments can easily influence someone towards a bad habit, I believe
that by promoting educational about the important of a healthy diet can change a person's perpestive
about an unbalanced diet.
7. As the number of cars increases, more money has to be spent on road systems. Some
people think the government should pay for this. Others, however, think that users should
cover the costs. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

It is argued that government should be responsible for bearing the cost of road development due to a
steady increase in vehicle production while others believe it's an individual role to bear the costs. I
think the government is responsible for improving road infrastructure totally.
Roads are essential for a country's growth and economic prosperity and there are several reasons the
government should fund road systems. Firstly, It is a basic civil right for an individual to have access
to roads, these roads enable regions, and towns to better develop sewerage, water and health
institutions to function effectively for instance, the government of Pakistan built a 300 miles motorway
that stretches from Gwadar port to the provincial capital city Quetta, this has enabled traders to
transport goods more frequently and has reduced the travel time up to 40 minutes. Secondly, Since
maintaining roads does not put an excessive burden on the state's treasury so therefore funds should
be allocated from the annual budget itself. Finally, the development of roads enables remote regions
of the country to connect with each other, resulting in an economic boom.
On the other hand, it would be unjustified if we were to impose a levy on people for purchasing cars.
This would discourage manufacturers and the government could lose a potential tax source and many
private transporters will also face the brunt of this surcharge which will result in increased inflation.
Furthermore, people who are already financially challenged because of costly bills, rent, and high cost
of living can lead them to live below the poverty line.
In conclusion, I believe charging individuals for road expenses proves to be overwhelming and only
governments have the capability to afford this expense.

8. Some people think that changing jobs periodically is good. What is your opinion?

Some individuals have tendency to alter their jobs from time to time. Majority of people do believe that
this a good attitude to change the job regularly. As far as I am concerned, I do agree with this
statement for two reasons. Changing job could have many advantages such as gaining more
experience along with getting familiar with new people.

Those people who had multiple occupations during their lives are more experienced. The most
rational justification for that is changing job give people this chance to gain more job skills and
broaden their opportunities to get better jobs in future. A good illustration for that could be chefs who
worked at multiple restaurants with various types of cuisines have expanded their knowledge about
different styles of cooking and techniques. Therefore, they are more likely to acquire better jobs in
comparison with other people who had always the same job.

Another advantage that could be mentioned about changing job is having chance to meet new people.
The more people change their job the more they become familiar with new people. As the relations
are increasing, they have more possibility to find brighter job prospect. For instance, two chefs
opened a restaurant with each other just after a short time that they worked together in a workplace.
As a result, getting stuck in a specific occupation, prevents people to contact new people and discover
new ways.

To sum up, by taking all above-mentioned arguments into consideration this conclusion can be drawn
that changing job not only do give people this chance to improve their skills and experience, but it also
contributes them to expand their horizon.
9. Some people think it is more important to spend money on roads and motorways than on
public transport systems. To what extent do you agree?

Nowadays, with the dramatic increase in population, many individuals own a car or a vehicle to travel.
Therefore many people think that it is necessary to invest public money in roads and motorways
instead of public transport systems. I would argue that it is of paramount importance to use public
money to fix the public transportation system. The reason is that this helps motivate people to use
green transportation and will make using these transport tickets way cheaper.

To begin with, it is important to focus on the fact that spending money on the transport system will
help people use more trams or trains to get to their destination. Furthermore, this has a good impact
on the climate because fewer cars will be on the road. The research concluded that when there is a
variety in timetables and more trains, people will choose to take trains rather than cars. Moreover,
research conducted showed that the accidents in the roads decrease after people start using more
trains and don't drive after long work hours.

Next to the advantages of giving money out to the public transport system which will push us to use
more green energy, it is important to look at more plus points. When the government usesuse the
money to invest in fixing public transportation systems, the tickets will become way cheaper for
travellers, and therefore more attractive to use.

In conclusion, it is important to give money out in the public system to motivate the usage of green
transportation and achieve cheap tickets

10. Governments should spend more money on railways rather than roads. To what extent do
you agree or disagree?

The officials need to focus and invest in rail lines rather than roads to provide efficient commutes for
people. In this essay, I will give my opinion about this matter.

First, the government in every country needs to provide good transportation for its citizens. Spending
a budget on trains or trams would be a good idea, as it can reduce the stress of traffic jams. For
instance, in my country, the Philippines, only one area has a train station. Therefore, adding up a lot
of train stations will make it easier for everyone to go to their designated location without a hassle.
Also, it can reduce the traffic on the roads. Where people can relax and not be exhausted before they
start their day. Furthermore, having additional trains in rural and urban locations will have a lot of
opportunities for people who are living there without going to the capital region to earn money.

However, if the authorities focus only on widening the street, it will cause a lot of problems. Air
pollution will add up and can damage our health and the ozone layer. Moreover, it can cause a lot of
car accidents for people because of the streets during rush hour. For example, some people drive too
fast, or they are just drunk while speeding.

To sum up, I agreed to put effort into improving the railways rather than fixing the roads. Thus, it will
be a great and favorable experience for everyone. Besides, a lot of people can ride a train because of
its greater capacity than riding a car with limited seats available.
11. Information technology is changing many aspects of our lives and now dominates our
home, leisure and work activities. To what extent do the benefits of information technology
outweigh the disadvantages?

Nowadays, information technology plays an increasingly important role in our lives. It supports us in
almost every situation. Digital technology has become an indispensable part of human life, appearing
everywhere, from communication to entertainment. Although its appearance has brought negative
consequences, I believe that Information Technology has some important social benefits.

It is necessary to admit that digital technology has caused some problems mainly because it
oversimplifies human life and makes some activities redundant. First, the development of smart
technology leads to people becoming more and more lazy to do activities. For example, the
appearance of gadgets such as remote controls and mobile phones means that everything can be
controlled remotely, eliminating the need to travel long distances, people spend most of their time with
their phones, which leads to poor health. Second, it causes a decrease in physical contact. Real-time
video and audio chat applications have made social celebrations and visits redundant.

On the other hand, IT has many benefits that improve the quality of life. One of the greatest
innovations introduced by IT is the internet, which connects every corner of the world together.
Thanks to the internet and the billions of websites available, modern people can easily access many
useful sources of information, read books online, and communicate with relatives at a distance. Digital
technology has also eliminated many manual and time-consuming activities from the daily life of an
ordinary person. Thanks to advances in Artificial Technology and the development of software
applications, many manual tasks have been automated. For example, translating a research paper in
a foreign language is now very easy, making it easier for people to study and research, questions are
now easily answered through the ChatGPT application.

In conclusion, Information Technology has caused some social and health problems, but the benefits
they bring easily outweigh their disadvantages.

12. If we want to save the future of the planet, we will all have to drastically change our way of
life. What is your opinion?

Global warming and climate change are two major environmental concerns today. In addition,
preserving the Earth's natural resources from depletion is also an important issue. Some people
believe that the way we live is wrong and this affects the planet. In my opinion, I agree with the above
idea. I will support my opinion in this essay and give some examples.

First, the reason I agree with the above opinion is deforestation. We destroy forests and this also
affects the future and no one will not plant more trees. I firmly believe that this will be prevented.
Trees provide life for humans as well as other creatures on earth, they provide us with oxygen to live,
provide a rich source of food and forests also prevent storms, floods, etc. Therefore, we need to
reduce deforestation now and actively plant more trees.

Another reason why I agree to change my lifestyle is the large amount of waste produced in various
sectors that is hazardous to the environment. These harmful unwanted products can remain in the
environment for centuries and threaten many living species on Earth. A typical example is that most of
the plastic waste produced by humans and factories cannot be recycled and pollutes the land and
water. The most obvious is the rivers and streams full of household waste floating on the water
surface. Nowadays, young people have many projects to clean up rivers, which shows the awareness
of young people today. We need to be conscious of protecting the environment and educate people
that, for example, we can use eco-friendly shopping bags and food containers as the best way to
reduce these types of pollution.

In conclusion, although there is a common belief that all the reasons we have discussed in the
previous paragraphs do not affect the planet. Personally I think that our scientists or engineers will
find a way to change our way of life and we will not have to face any difficulties like environmental
pollution or deforestation.
13. Some people say that the main environmental problem of our time is the loss of particular
species of plants and animals. Others say that there are more important environmental
problems. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

The environment is a major concern all over the world. A large number of people believe that the
extinction of plants and animals is a major environmental problem, while others believe that there are
more important environmental problems that we need to deal with. This essay will discuss both views
and I believe that the extinction of plants and animals is a major environmental problem.

First of all, the extinction of certain plants and animals can be considered a major environmental
problem. The extinction of plants and animals can disrupt the food chain, which has a major impact on
human survival. Plants that once covered large areas and provided shade have been replaced by tall
buildings. This removal of vegetation has led to increased temperatures as there are fewer trees to
absorb sunlight. In addition, many sea areas are now occupied by buildings and many ships move
between locations, causing stress for marine animals. Stress can hinder the growth and health of
these animals, thereby affecting the ecosystem.

On the other hand, pollution is often considered to have the most significant impact. Nowadays, we
can also see garbage thrown on the side of the road when we go out. Littering on beaches and
oceans damages the habitat of marine animals, making them dirty, smelly and uncomfortable to live
in. Many marine animals die due to the high acidity in the ocean caused by human activities. Many
rivers and canals in our country also have a lot of household waste thrown in the river, causing many
fish species to die due to pollution.

In short, pollution can cause great environmental damage, leading to the extinction of plants and
animals. Therefore, the main problem is really pollution, as it plays an important role in the loss of
biodiversity. The most important elements of our environment are plants and animals, and protecting
them from pollution should be our top priority.

14. Nowadays many people have easy access to computers and a large number of children
play computer games. What are the negative impacts of playing computer games? What can
be done to minimise the bad effects?

Nowadays, technology is more and more developed and computers are easily accessible. Many
children spend a lot of time playing video games. Although these games can be entertaining, they
also have some negative effects. In this essay, I will discuss the negative effects of playing video
games on children's health and some solutions to solve this problem.

Firstly, playing video games for long hours can lead to health problems, such as children can suffer
from eye strain, headaches and lack of physical activity, which can lead to obesity. Children who play
too much video games can lead to nearsightedness. Secondly, excessive gaming can negatively
affect academic performance. Children may prioritize games over homework or studying, which leads
to lower grades. Furthermore, if children play violent games, it can affect their behavior.

To reduce these negative impacts, parents and teachers can take a number of steps. The first is to
set limits on gaming time to ensure children have enough time for other activities, such as studying or
exercising. In addition, parents should monitor the types of games their children play, choosing games
that are educational or age-appropriate. Schools can also educate children about the importance of
balancing screen time with other fun or educational activities. For example, teachers can set up mini-
games such as puzzles and word matching so that children can play games together as a way to
bond and understand gaming culture. Encouraging group activities, such as sports or hobbies, can
also help children find alternative ways to have fun and interact with others. Teachers and schools
can organize extracurricular activities or workshops to promote a balanced lifestyle and teach time
management skills.

In conclusion, while computer games can be fun, their negative impact on health, behavior, and
learning should not be overlooked. Parents should find ways to set boundaries and promote healthier
alternatives such as being with their children more to minimize the harmful effects.
15. Some people believe that traveling to different countries is a valuable experience for young
people.

Do you agree or disagree?

Traveling to different countries is considered an enriching experience for young people. This essay
agrees that international travel offers immense benefits for their personal and educational growth. By
experiencing diverse cultures and developing essential life skills, young travelers gain valuable
insights that contribute to their future success.

One of the most significant benefits of traveling abroad is the exposure to diverse cultures, which
broadens young people's perspectives. Engaging with different traditions, languages, and ways of life
fosters cultural awareness and empathy. For example, a young traveler visiting Japan may
experience the deep-rooted values of respect and discipline, while a trip to Italy may highlight the
importance of family and social connections. Such as experiences enhance open-mindedness and
adaptability, crucial traits in today’s interconnected world.

Another key advantage of international travel is the development of essential life skills that prepare
young people for global workplaces. Traveling requires problem-solving, budgeting, and
communication skills, all of which contribute to greater independence. For instance, navigating public
transport in a foreign country or managing expenses in a different currency enhances decision-making
abilities. Additionally, experiencing diverse work cultures and networking opportunities during travels
can improve employability, making young people more competitive in the job market.

In conclusion, traveling to different countries is a valuable experience for young people as it broadens
their cultural perspectives and helps them develop essential life skills. These experiences not only
contribute to personal growth but also prepare them for future challenges in a globalized world.
Therefore, international travel should be encouraged as a crucial part of youth development.
