PART I

God's Perfect Plan for Man's Diet

4 From Eden to Eternity
A Bible + Spirit of Prophecy journey through God's blueprint for human nourishment
1. Creation 4 The Soil, the Plants, and the First Human
Diet
Genesis 2:7 4 "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the
ground&"

Man was created from the dust/soil 4 a body designed to be

nourished by elements found in the earth.
Plants are the "middlemen" 4 God's living transport system.
Roots draw minerals from the soil, store them in fruits, grains,
nuts, and seeds 4 perfectly balanced for human and animal
needs.
Genesis 1:29 4 God's original diet: "Every herb bearing seed&
every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed&" This
diet provided complete nutrition without the need for death.
Ellen White (Counsels on Diet and Foods, p. 81): "In the beginning,
man was given no animal food& Fruits, grains, and nuts were the
food chosen for us by our Creator."
2. After the Fall 4 Herbs Added
Genesis 3:18 4 "&and thou shalt eat the herb of the field."

After sin, God added herbs and green plants to man's diet 4
these contain medicinal and cleansing properties to counteract
the results of sin.
Ellen White (Ministry of Healing, p. 296): "After the fall, the eating
of flesh was unknown& Vegetables were added to the fruit, grain,
and nut diet."

3. Antediluvian Corruption 4 The Evil of Flesh-Eating

In the time before the Flood, men "filled the earth with violence" (Genesis 6:11). Appetite was perverted 4 animals were killed for food
though God had not given such permission.
Ellen White (Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 92): "They loved to indulge appetite without restraint& they ate animal flesh which God had not
given them."
This led to moral corruption, shortened lives, and weakening of the physical constitution.
4. Post-Flood Change 4 Meat Permitted Temporarily

Genesis 9:3 4 "Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you&"

After the Flood, vegetation was destroyed 4 nutrients from soil were greatly reduced. God allowed flesh-food as a temporary concession.
Only clean animals were allowed (Genesis 7:2).
Ellen White (Counsels on Diet and Foods, p. 373): "God gave man no permission to eat the flesh of unclean beasts& and the eating of flesh
shortened the life of man."

5. Decline of Man's Longevity

Ellen White's Observation

After meat was introduced

Before the Flood

Average lifespans 900+ years years, Moses 120 years, David 70 years (CD, p. 373)
6. Exodus Lessons 4 God's Attempt to Restore the Eden
Diet
In the wilderness, God fed Israel with manna 4 plant-based
"bread of heaven" (Psalm 78:25).
The people craved flesh, rejecting God's provision. Quail was sent
4 but many died from plague (Numbers 11:33).
Ellen White (CD, p. 377): "God gave the people flesh because
they persisted in their desire, but it was not the best food for
them."

with appetite; Christ overcame Satan's

Ellen White principle 4 You Are What You Eat: "The controlling power of the appetite will prove the ruin of thousands& The health of the
body is to be preserved for the sake of mental and spiritual health." (CD, p. 59)
8. Return to the Original Plan 4 Spirit of Prophecy Call
Ellen White: "God is trying to lead us back, step by step, to His
original design 4 that man should subsist upon the products of
the earth." (CD, p. 373)

Early SDA pioneers embraced vegetarianism as part of preparing for

Christ's return. The body-temple principle was central to the
Adventist health message.
9. Modern Science Agrees
WHO: Diets rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds reduce risk of chronic disease.
Plant-based diets improve heart health, aid weight control, lower inflammation, and promote longevity.
Walter Veith point: Plant proteins are complete when varied 4 and come packaged with fiber, antioxidants, and no cholesterol. Animal
protein often comes with saturated fat, toxins, and uric acid.

Ellen White (The Ministry of Healing, p. 295): "In the new earth
there shall be nothing to hurt or destroy& the Eden diet will be

PART II
Lesson: Diet, Salvation, and the Mind 3 The Spiritual Danger of Flesh
Eating
Introduction

Many believers fail to realize that what we eat is not merely a matter of taste or health 4 it has a deep and direct impact on our spiritual life. The
Bible is clear that God is calling His people to a higher standard, preparing them to stand in the last days. Yet, a diet of flesh foods can cloud the
mind, corrupt the moral sensibilities, and even place the soul's salvation in danger.
1. The Biblical Foundation

1 Corinthians 10:31 3 "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God."

Every act of life, including diet, must glorify God. If it weakens the body, dulls the mind, or strengthens sinful tendencies, it dishonors Him.

Genesis 1:29 3 The original diet in Eden was plant-based. God gave "every herb bearing seed" and "fruit of a tree" as food. This was the perfect
diet for physical, mental, and spiritual strength.

Daniel 1:8, 15, 17, 20 3 Daniel and his friends refused the king's meat and wine, choosing a plant-based diet. The result? They were healthier,
wiser, and more spiritually alert than all others.
2. Ellen White's Solemn Warnings on Flesh Eating
These are not soft, optional suggestions 4 they are urgent, prophetic calls.

A. Meat Eating Affects Salvation

"It is impossible for those who make free use of flesh meats to have an enlightened understanding. Their sensibilities are blunted, and their
moral powers are enfeebled to such an extent that sacred and eternal things are not appreciated." (Counsels on Diet and Foods, p. 382)

"Flesh eating will eventually be done away; for disease in animals is increasing in proportion to the increase of wickedness among men. The
use of the flesh of dead animals will be swept away. Those who persist in eating meat, knowing the light God has given, will not be counted
among the people who are prepared to stand in the day of the Lord." (Counsels on Diet and Foods, p. 382-383)

Meaning: Continued indulgence in meat, when God has given light, can separate a person from His people in the final crisis.
B. Meat Darkens the Mind and Corrupts the Moral Powers

"The intellectual, the moral, and the physical powers are depreciated by the habitual use of flesh meats. The lower passions are
strengthened, the moral powers are weakened, and the spiritual perceptions are dulled." (The Ministry of Healing, p. 315)

"The grossness of flesh meat stimulates the lower passions, and enfeebles the moral and spiritual nature." (Counsels on Diet and Foods, p.
383)

Meaning: It is not just a health matter 4 meat directly stirs up carnal desires and weakens resistance against temptation.

C. Meat Eating Makes It Harder to Understand Truth

"The use of the flesh of animals tends to lower the moral tone and to becloud the perception of the truth. The spiritual nature is weakened. It
becomes impossible for them to appreciate eternal realities." (Counsels on Diet and Foods, p. 383)

"Meat eating deranges the system, benumbs the sensibilities of the mind, and blunts the finer feelings." (Ibid., p. 384)

Meaning: A diet heavy in meat clouds spiritual vision. Those who indulge may hear truth but will not sense its urgency or beauty.
3. Why This Matters for the Last Days

Transition Gradually if Needed Focus on Purpose

Reduce meat consumption steadily until it is fully eliminated. Remember, this is not merely health reform 4 it is heart preparation for
eternal life.

Closing Appeal
The issue of diet is not a small side matter 4 it is a test of obedience and readiness. God is calling His people to purify themselves, body, mind,
and soul. To neglect this light is to risk losing the ability to discern His voice when it matters most.
