Chapter 1

In a mountainous area, there was a wide meadow, or what the wild cats that live there call
it, moor. It was a wide area with many oak trees surrounding it and a big rocky area in the center.
The moor was home to many animals, but only the clan of cats that live there knew the land’s
secrets.

The mountains loomed over the moor as dark storm clouds slowly made their way
towards the opening. The trees made an almost rattle-like sound as the wind rushed through
them. Felis, an orange tabby with grey stripes and aqua eyes, stood in the shelter of his warm
cave. The sound of paw steps were almost drowned out by the rustling sound coming from the
trees. A blue tortoiseshell stepped into the cave. “It is such a big storm out there Felis, you are
lucky to have this small cave!” The tortoiseshell meowed. Felis spun around quickly and
meowed so harshly, it made the tortoiseshell flinch, “Why have you come here Lisia? You know
I do not like visitors.” Lisia hissed loudly and Felis stared at her for a few seconds. Then, he
charged at her. He batted at her with his paw, claws unsheathed. Felis hooked her nose, and blood
started to drip down her muzzle. Lisia attacked Felis and growled,”Why must you be so harsh on
us! Can we just live in peace? Just because you found this place, doesn't mean you own it!” The
two cats rolled around in a furry blur. Felis pinned her down on the cold cave stone and yowled,
“I was your leader, and I still am, so you must respect me and follow my rules! At least your
sister respects me.” Lisia wriggled around under Felis’s paws, and soon Felis loosened his
pressure. “Fine. I will let you go, but don’t come back here unless you want to do something
useful.” Lisia stood up and padded quickly out of the cave, and mewed, “Fine! I will come back,
Felis, and not in peace. You just wait.”

Lisia went back to her small encampment under a gorse bush, where she lived with her
older sister. From the wind, the gorse bushes' leaves fell off and opened their shelter. They would
have to leave this place soon, or else racoons or foxes could easily get to them. Crystal was
asleep in her nest. “Crystal, wake up. We must move to a different shelter.” Lisia mewed as she
gathered their clan stone, which is what they had given to them when they joined Felis and his
clan. Crystal looked up drowsily and mewed, “Whasgoinon? Did Felis agree to the truce?” Lisia
looked at Crystal sadly and hissed, “No, he just won't change and he wont stop trying to kill
other cats!”

It was almost midnight. Crystal, awake because of the moonlight shining in through the
torn gorse bush, stared out of the opening to the moor. Off in the distance, a cat like shape cut
through the darkness. Crystal froze as she saw it pass by. Since Lisia was sleeping, she could
sneak out and see what it was! “Hello? Who are you?” she mewed quietly. “Well hello, Crystal. I
see we meet again.” A voice replies out of the darkness. “What do you want from me, Felis? You
better explain yourself, creeping around at night!” Lisia growled as she appeared from under the
bush. “I’m not Felis. I’m Sylves, don't you remember me? I helped you try to stop Felis!”
Lisia has never met Sylves, but has heard Crystal tell stories about her adventures with him to
her when she was just a kit.

A raindrop hit Lisia in the nose. Soon, it started pouring down rain, and the three cats had
nowhere to go for shelter. Distant sounds of thunder and lightning were followed by strong
winds. “We must find shelter soon or we will freeze to death in this cold rain. Follow me, I know
where there is some protective shelter” Sylves yowled. The three cats zoomed through the rain,
the sound of their paws on the grass almost cut off in sound by the loud thunder cracking in the
sky. Soon, the cats started their long journey across the moor.

After what felt like hours, Crystal saw a hollow log under a tree, which offered good
shelter in the freezing cold rain. “My pelt is freezing out here! Can we go any slower?” Lisia
hissed sarcastically. Sylves meowed loudly with laughter, “Yes Lisia, we are there! Crystal was
right when she told me you were stubborn.” Crystal looked around the log. There were two piles
of moss in the log, and one of them was hers. Memories flooded back to Crystal as she walked

through and around the hollow log and remembered the time she fought off a fox as Sylves was
sleeping. “sylves, how is this place still here? I would think the log would be gone by now since
it's been so long since i've been here!” Crystal mewed happily. Lisia looked around. It was
almost sunrise, and they were all tired. “I’m gonna take a nap.” Lisia yawned.

Felis looked from his cave at the cats entering the log. He started walking over to it to ask
them if they wanted to be a group again. When he saw them come out, he walked a little quicker.
Lisia yowled something he couldn't hear and the three cats ran away to the mountainside. They
still think I am bad from the time I attacked a lot of their friends, but I regret doing it. Felis
thought as he walked around the moor looking for prey. After a while of searching, he decided to
go look for Lisia and her Friends. He heard loud yowls coming from the forest, and he saw Lisia
and Sylves running towards him, “Felis, you have to help us! There was an avalanche and
Crystal is trapped under a boulder, please help us!” Felis mewed, “I will help. Crystal saved my
life once, so I shall do the same.”
As soon as they reached the edge of the forest, Felis saw the avalanche and heard loud,
painful yowls. He saw Crystal under a tree log that just broke, but it looked too heavy to move.
He heard trees making a loud noise. A huge dark cloud started to pour down rain and made
strong winds. Felis ran over to the other cats and mewed, “We cannot save her in this condition.
It will be too slippery and we could get stuck.” The rain lightened after a few minutes. Crystal
was able to wriggle a little bit more free, so despite the slippery conditions, they went to try and
pull her out from under the tree. After trying more than ten times, Felis and Sylves got stuck
under a fallen log. Lisia tried to unstick them, but she couldn't. She heard weird noises coming
from behind the trees. “Humans! I have heard good things about humans so maybe they will help
us!” She continuously meowed and soon the humans helped get Felis and Crystal unstuck.
