Week 1

The document outlines a Computer Networks Lab exercise focused on implementing various network topologies (Bus, Star, Ring, Mesh, and Hybrid) using Cisco Packet Tracer. It includes definitions, construction steps, and requirements for each topology. The lab aims to successfully create and simulate these topologies.

Computer Networks Lab (23IT5352)

WEEK 1
Date: 26/06/2025
Roll Number: 238W1A1296

Aim:

To draw and implement different network topologies (Bus, Star, Ring, Mesh, and Hybrid) using
Cisco Packet Tracer.

Apparatus/Software Required:

 Cisco Packet Tracer software

 Computer system with Windows/Linux OS

Procedure:

1. Bus Topology:

 Definition: In bus topology, all devices are connected to a single central cable, called the
bus.
 Construction Steps:
o Open Cisco Packet Tracer.
o Add multiple end devices (PCs).
o Connect all devices using a single straight-through cable.
o Use hubs or repeaters if necessary.
o Assign IP addresses to each device.
 Output:

2. Star Topology:

 Definition: In star topology, all devices are connected to a central hub or switch.
 Construction Steps:
o Open Cisco Packet Tracer.
o Add end devices (PCs) and a switch.
o Connect each PC to the switch using straight-through cables.
o Assign IP addresses to each PC.
 Output:

3. Ring Topology:

 Definition: In ring topology, each device is connected to exactly two other devices,
forming a ring.
 Construction Steps:
o Add multiple PCs in a circular arrangement.
o Connect each PC to its two neighbors using crossover cables.
o Assign IP addresses.
 Output:

4. Mesh Topology:

 Definition: In mesh topology, every device is connected to every other device.

 Construction Steps:
o Add multiple PCs.
o Connect each PC to every other PC using individual cables.
o Assign IP addresses accordingly.
 Output:

5. Hybrid Topology:

 Definition: Hybrid topology is a combination of two or more different topologies.

 Construction Steps:
o Create two or more topologies (e.g., star + bus).
o Connect them using appropriate network devices.
o Assign IPs and simulate connectivity.
 Output:

Result:

The different network topologies were successfully created and simulated using Cisco Packet
Tracer.
