competition to suggest solution to improve the project achievement in the
concerned factors. The target group of this study 23 players and 2 coaches. From
the total number of 30 players and 2 coaches were selected all through
purposive sampling technique because of the were few number of players data of
this study were collected by using questionnaires prepared for both coach and
player and also interview and personal observation were conducted that collected
data analysed quantitative and qualitative from analysed data. Show that the
major factors which affect mote general primary school football project are lack of
nutrition program. Lack of self-confidence, lack sufficient equipment, inadequate
training method, lack of moral support from community, lack of enough diet before
and after training, lack of suitable training field those are negative influence of the
project fitness debates your conclusion and recommendation.
CHAPTER ONE
1. Introduction
1.1 Back ground of the study

Association football, more commonly known as football or soccer, is a team sport played with a
spherical ball between two teams of eleven players. It is played by 250 million players in over
200 countries and dependencies, making it the world's most popular sport. The game is played on
a rectangular field called a pitch with a goal at each end. The object of the game is to score by
moving the ball beyond the goal line into the opposing goal. Association football is one of a
family of football codes, which emerged from various ball games played worldwide since
antiquity. The modern game traces its origins to 1863 when the Laws of the Game were
originally codified in England by The Football Association. Players are not allowed to touch the
ball with hands or arms while it is in play, except for the goalkeepers within the penalty area.
Other players mainly use their feet to strike or pass the ball, but may also use any other part of
their body except the hands and the arms. The team that scores most goals by the end of the
match wins. If the score is level at the end of the game, either a draw is declared or the game
goes into extra time or a penalty shootout depending on the format of the competition.
Association football is governed internationally by the International Federation of Association
Football (FIFA; French: Federation International de Football Association), which organizes
World Cups for both men and women every four years. The rules of association football were
codified in England by the Football Association in 1863 and the name association football was
coined to distinguish the game from the other forms of football played at the time, specifically
rugby football. The first written "reference to the inflated ball used in the game" was in the mid-
14th century. The Online Etymology Dictionary states that the "rules of the game" were made in
1848, before the "split off in 1863". The term soccer comes from a slang or jocular abbreviation
of the word "association", with the suffix "-er" appended to it. The word soccer (which arrived
at its final form in 1895) was first recorded in 1889 in the earlier form of soccer. Within the
English-speaking world, association football is now usually called "football" in the United
Kingdom and mainly "soccer" in Canada and the United States. People in countries where other
codes of football are prevalent (Australia, Ireland, Wales, South Africa and New Zealand) may
use either term, although national associations in Australia and New Zealand now primarily use
"football" for the formal name.

Physical fitness is a state of health and well- being and, more specifically, the ability to
perform aspects of sports, occupations and daily activities. Physical fitness is generally achieved
through proper nutrition, moderate-vigorous physical exercise, and sufficient rest. Before the
industrial revolution, fitness was defined as the capacity to carry out the day’s activities without

undue fatigue. However, with automation and changes in lifestyles physical fitness is now
considered a measure of the body's ability to function efficiently and effectively in work and
leisure activities, to be healthy, to resist hypokinetic diseases , and to meet emergency situations.
Fitness is defined as the quality or state of being fit. Around 1950, perhaps consistent with the
Industrial Revolution and the treatise of World War II, the term "fitness" increased in western
vernacular by a factor of ten. The modern definition of fitness describes either a person or
machine's ability to perform a specific function or a holistic definition of human adaptability to
cope with various situations. This has led to an interrelation of human fitness and attractiveness
that has mobilized global fitness and fitness equipment industries. Regarding specific function,
fitness is attributed to persons who possess significant aerobic or anaerobic ability, i.e. endurance
or strength. A well-rounded fitness program improves a person in all aspects of fitness compared
to practicing only one, such as only cardio/respiratory endurance or only weight training. A
comprehensive fitness program tailored to an individual typically focuses on one or more
specific skills, and on age- or health- related needs such as bone health. Many sources also cite
mental, social and emotional health as an important part of overall fitness. This is often presented
in textbooks as a triangle made up of three points, which represent physical, emotional, and
mental fitness. Physical fitness can also prevent or treat many chronic health conditions brought
on by unhealthy lifestyle or aging. Working out can also help some people sleep better and
possibly alleviate some mood disorders in certain individuals. Developing research has
demonstrated that many of the benefits of exercise are mediated through the role of skeletal
muscle as an endocrine organ. That is, contracting muscles release multiple substances known as
myokiness, which promote the growth of new tissue, tissue repair, and various anti-
inflammatory functions, which in turn reduce the risk of developing various inflammatory
diseases. When we see the current behavior of our country football it would be difficult. Because
different factor such as physical, political, economic and behavioral factors including fitness can
influence greatly. From the above meaning of fitness we can understand that, fitness was base for
life and increase player fitness level can also improve the success of football. So in different
level from national team up to kebele, our football is at risk. These problems initiate me to
conduct this research.
1.2 Statement of the problem

Ethiopian football was organized during the time of 1956 but some evidence says the actual
time 1957.Ethiopia take part as a host country for African cup nation for three successive
periods,1957, 1960 and 1968. Ethiopia wins during 1957 and being the owner of cup. Ethiopian
people have great interest for football, but the level of our football from African countries and
the world are decrease automatically. In the ancient time Ethiopia has competitive team, now in
the current situation the team becomes low. As a school Mote general primary school also the
oldest school from dessie zuriya Woreda School and was constructed in 1969.The player have
lack of physical fitness during training and competition. The problem is not only this school and
also most of Ethiopian soccer or football player. So the problem finds Absolut solution to
increase the level of our sport.

1.3 Research question

This study seeks to deal with the following four main questions.

1. What are the major problems that obstacle mote general primary school soccer player
fitness?
2. Does the project or the team have proper, enough training area and time?
3. Does the project use good nutritional program for their success?

4. Does the player gets proper training and has qualified coaches?

1.4 Objective of the study

1.4.1 General objective

General objective of this study was to investigate the major factors which affect mote general
primary school football project fitness during training and competition.
1.4.2 Specific objective

The research paper would have the following specific objective.

 To identify the major cause of lack of player fitness in the project

 To identify which kind of food can develop player’s fitness
 To identify the best method of training that increase player fitness
 To identify strategies that take to solve training area and time problem

1.5 Significance of the study

This study would be important.

 To create awareness to the community and to support the project

 To collect relative information for football player and coach
 To create awareness to sponsors to support the project
 To help other research as reference and to make similar studies in the future.

This research has great impact to improve all over activities of the project and fitness as well as
the awareness of the community to wards sport. When player fitness develop well they can
perform all activities well rather than football. It also increases productivity of the community.

1.6 Delimitation of the study

The study was delimitation at Dessie zuria woreda 020 kebele Mote general primary school
which found 27km from dessie city. The area in compose Kedijo29 or 019 from north, Dega
Mote 021 from east, Key gedel 029 from south and Mayan 020 from west. So the researchers
was restricted to work on this project.

1.7 limitation of the study

During the study the following problem was the limitation influence.

 No more ethical coach and player that have the aim to success in the field
 Deficiency of financial and equipment problem for the success of the plan
 Lack of nutrition to test the change before and after meal

1.8 Operation definition of term

Physical fitness is a state of health and well- being and, more specifically, the ability to
perform aspects of sports, occupations and daily activities.

 Soccer is a team sport played with a spherical ball between two teams of eleven players.
 Good performance: a player who get a good level of his/her capacity
 High organization: good coordinate between the player from goal keep to attracter
 Strength: the quality or state of being physically strong or the capacity of an object or
substance to withstand great force or pressure.
 Endurance: is the ability of an organism to exert itself and remain active for a long period
of time, as well as its ability to resist, withstand, recover from, and have immunity to
trauma.
 Stamina: the ability to sustain prolonged physical or mental effort.
 Low performance: a player who decrease their performance
 A skill is the ability to carry out a task with determined results often within a given
amount of time, energy, or both.
 Socialization: to stay organization among people with people

2 Review of related literature
2.1 Concept of football
A soccer game model, which is the team’s specific model for how to play, consists of various
concepts which basically are the group of movements, positions and skills that the player in
possession of the ball and the players that don’t have the ball develop in relation to certain
variables such as the ball, opponents, teammates and the overall model of play determined by the
coach. Below is an overview of the concepts of the soccer game model.
Fundamental technique of football

 Kicking and receiving

 Passing and goal keeping
 Dribbling
 Heading

2.2 Nutrition for football player

The following take balance diet for athlete performance.

 Eat a lot of different kind of food such as vegetable, fruit, fish and meat
 Eat a high proportion of carbohydrate rich food
 Eat small, easy digested meat, usually less than 500 calories before training.

2.3 Type of fitness training for football player

Here's how to maximize your speed, stamina and power on the field if you aspire to any half-
decent level of football, you'll need to work on your stamina. The average professional player
now covers over 10km in a 90-minute match. These days it’s not just about increasing lung
capacity – the demands of the game have increased so exponentially that being bigger, more
powerful and explosive is more critical than ever.

1. Be able to run for days

Interval training is not a traditional stamina builder but it is what you’ll find most Premier
League players doing to help improve their VO2 Max (the maximum rate at which someone’s
body can consume oxygen during exercise), hitting maximum sprinting at high tempo before
jogging and then going all out once more, allowing them to build the stamina and flourish deep
into added time. The drill: Perform four minutes jogging and four minutes tempo run repeated
four times.

2. Maximize sprint speed

Traditionally something only wingers had, it’s now vital for players in all positions to have sprint
speed. Come the end of their career, even modern greats including Rio Ferdinand will confess
how hard it can be without it. Maximising your own potential to run fast for shorter bursts will
stand you head and shoulders above the rest, so try using weighted sled pulls and parachute
sprints.

3. Become more explosive

Superstars like Eden Hazard seem able to turn a corner and already be in the middle of next
week, but while it may look natural, much of it comes down to hard work. It’s all about
explosive power. Training for this is not for the fainthearted and involves maximum effort and
excellent technique, however with this comes great reward, turning you into a deadly number 10
with a frightening turn of speed. To achieve this, perform plyometric movements such as squat
thrusters, burpees with tuck jumps with any sort of jump squat, including plyometric box jumps,
and soon opponents will be eating your dust. The drill: Four sets of 10 single-leg box jumps on
each side, increasing the height of the box each week.

4. Improve your change of direction

It’s all well and good if you’re fast, but if that stops at straight line speed then you’ll be restricted
to the wings. Every footballer should be able to change direction at any second and do so
quickly, without the risk of injury and keeping the ball well under control. Traditional cone drills
are an easy way to improve a player’s agility, including slalom runs and shuttle runs.

5. Develop rock solid core stability;

When looking for a player who really does maximise every aspect of their physique to their
advantage, you’d be hard pressed to look past

6. Make yourself stronger

Ignore strength training at your peril. Advances in sports science have awoken the football world
to the positive effects of disciplines like Olympic lifting and general resistance training. Big
compound movements such as squats, deadlifts and lunges all have a hugely positive effect when
it comes to things like explosive power, overall speed, and agility and – to a degree – core
stability. However, the biggest benefit of strength training lies in injury prevention.

7. Leave time to recover

Spend at least 10 minutes after a training session stretching or foam rolling your lower body.
2.4 Factors That Affect Performance in Sports
Playing sports at any level of competition, from pickup games in your backyard to collegiate and
professional levels, provides many benefits. From improving cardiovascular health to improving
your feelings of self-esteem, sports can impact your life in significant ways. But your success in
sports, and even what you can expect to get out of the experience, is dependent on many
different factors. Both mental and physical factors affect your performance in sports, so if you
believe your performance is lagging, try to consider as many factors as you can as possible
causes.

Muscular endurance and strength

Every task you can imagine in sports, from throwing a ball to jumping over a hurdle, involves
the action of your muscles. Some sports, such as powerlifting, require a high level of muscular
strength to produce a brief but powerful force. Others, such as marathon running, require
incredible muscular endurance to sustain the strength to move your body for hours at a time. You
can improve your muscular strength and endurance by practicing your particular sport, as well as
working out in the weight room. A research review from the December 2004 issue of the
"Journal of Exercise Physiology Online" suggests that performing workouts with heavier weight
and a lower number of repetitions are better for strength, while working with moderate weight
and higher numbers of repetitions is preferable for muscular endurance.

Cardiovascular capacity
The muscles that you can see aren't the only muscles that impact your sports performance. Your
heart, which is part of your cardiovascular system, is crucial because it ensures that oxygenated
blood reaches muscles throughout your body that help you run, jump and throw. To improve
your cardiovascular capacity, perform cardio exercises such as running, swimming, aerobics or
even dancing or dance-inspired workout programs such as Zumba.

Confidence
Being confident in yourself, your teammates and your skills is vital for sports performance.
Having confidence will give you a positive attitude and help you visualize and achieve success.
If you are not confident that you can beat your opponents or improve upon your previous
performance, your negativity may prove you right. According to Jim Taylor, Ph.D., confidence is
"is the single most important mental factor in sports," so you should not overlook this factor.
Strategic thinking
Many sports are just as much a mental game as they are a physical one, so strategic thinking is an
important factor for success. Thinking strategically means you understand how players interact
on the field or court and how you can employ plays that will help you defeat your opponents. By
anticipating the moves of your opponents and reacting to plays as they develop, you can greatly
improve

2.5 Five Types of Fitness Training

 Strength
 Cardiovascular endurance
 Balance
 Agility and flexibility should be the goals of any well-rounded fitness program. But how
do you go about developing these skills? The key is variety. Don't spend all your time in
the weight room or on the treadmill. Include different types of fitness training in your
routine and you'll see better overall results in your exercise performance and how your
body performs and feels in daily life.

2.6Type of training used for football players

1. Continuous Training method

Continuous training method as the maniples, invoice contiguous activity without rest interval this
have varied high intensity continues activity moderate duration to low intensity for a football
player develop;

 Aerobic capacity
 being adapts lactate accumulation
 Work continuously or seriously able to increase volume oxygen Consumption
2. Interval training methods
 Interval training method used improve both aerobic and anaerobic fitness, there is a
break time in between exercise develop the outbreak time from one exercise to another.
For example, touch the ball and create space or change direction.
 Develops strength endurance.
 It refers to having period of intense physical activity between period of recover at longer
period of time.

3. Weight of training

It focused on building up strength power of muscular endurance by exercising muscle against

resistance. This is mainly refers to strength type of training develop their anaerobic efficiency.

Develop core body strength such as for those of huge muscles part of the body:

 Internal oblique muscle

 Gluteus Maximus and minimums
 Quadriceps
 Hamstring
 Chest muscle

Players play Small sided game being efficiently and effectively through this type of training have
the quality to change direction or agility.

3 Methodology
3.1. Study area and period
This study was conducted on Dessie Zuriya woreda 020 kebele Mote general primary school
football project which is found at northern of Ethiopia and the distance from Dessie city is 27km.
The climate condition would have been cold temperature and this study was conducted in
2011E.C.

3.2. Study design

The research is design to investget the major factors which affect the fitness of Mote general
primary school soccer player during training and competition period. The research was design
both qualitative and quantitative survey. Qualitative by statement form and quantitative by table
use number and percentage.

3.3. Source of the data

Qualitative based surveys have the method of choice in the study of factors which affect projects
level of fitness. (Conger, 1998: Berson, 1999: Friedrich, Byrne, Munford, 2009 and Friedrich, et
al..2009) argue that surveys are an important means for researchers to collect data from players
and coaches as it is very difficult to use experimental methods. All most of the major theories of
coaching, organizing and training in football have already got associated with questionnaires.
Survey method was used because the researcher wants to describe facts and telling on the
existing conditions about the problem under investigation through quantitative and qualitative
data.

Primary source of the study was player in Mote general primary school soccer project through
questionnaire and secondary source of the data through interview, books and other resource. The
question for 23 members of project and 2 coaches by open.

3.4Total population
The total population of this research was 40 members of the project player and 2 coaches.

3.5 Sample population and sample techniques

The population of the study was Mote general primary school football project members in
current time 2011 Ec. the study population was 23 members of the project player and 2 coaches.
The sample technique the researcher was used purposive technique because of they were few
number of players. Purposive this used primarily when there are a limited number of people that
have expertise in the being researched.

3.6 Data collection instrument

The study was used through observation and questioners for data collecting from football player.
The questionnaire prepaid by open number of question and close ended other like interview.

3.7 Data analysis

The data gather by the questionnaire was prepared through tables and interpreting percentage.
Therefore the analysis and interpretation was made in relation to basic questions of the study
finally a sound discussion recommendation and conclusions are putted.
