SECTION A - READING SKILLS 20

1. Read the following text. 10

1. The resurgence of interest in local tourism offers a refreshing alternative to conventional
travel, encouraging exploration of nearby cultural gems and natural landscapes. This
growing trend emphasizes sustainability, supports local economies, and fosters a deeper
appreciation for one’s immediate surroundings. It’s a shift that not only benefits travelers
but also contributes significantly to the vitality of communities close to home.
2. A primary advantage of local tourism is its significant positive impact on the environment.
By reducing the need for long-distance flights and extensive transportation, it minimizes
carbon footprints associated with travel. Local excursions often encourage activities like
walking, cycling, or using public transport, further decreasing environmental strain. This
focus on proximity and sustainable modes of discovery aligns well with eco-conscious
living.
3. Furthermore, supporting local tourism directly strengthens regional economies. When
travelers explore nearby destinations, their spending on accommodation, food, local
crafts, and services directly benefits small businesses and service providers in the area.
This influx of revenue helps sustain jobs, stimulates entrepreneurship, and keeps money
circulating within the community, fostering economic resilience and growth.
4. Local tourism also plays a crucial role in cultural preservation and appreciation. It
encourages visitors to engage with local traditions, heritage sites, and community events
that might otherwise be overlooked. This interaction fosters a greater understanding of
diverse local identities and helps preserve unique customs, arts, and historical narratives.
It transforms passive observation into active cultural exchange and learning experiences.
Page 2 Sample Paper 25 CBSE 10th English LL

5. The convenience and accessibility of local travel are undeniable benefits. Spontaneous day
trips, weekend getaways, or short holidays within one’s region eliminate the complexities
of extensive planning, visa applications, and jet lag. The familiarity of the local language
and customs also reduces stress, allowing for a more relaxed and immersive experience
without the pressures often associated with international travel.
6. Ultimately, promoting local tourism is a powerful way to foster community pride and
build a stronger connection to one’s own region. It creates a symbiotic relationship
where travelers gain enriching experiences, and local communities thrive economically
and culturally. This mindful approach to travel not only reduces environmental impact
but also deepens our appreciation for the beauty and diversity that lies right on our
doorstep.
