PRESENT PERFECT TENSE
The present perfect tense is not the simple present or the simple past. The simple past talks
about an action that is completely finished. The present perfect talks about the past, but it
connects to the present.
1-We use the present perfect tense for an action we started in the past, but, not yet finished. It
is still going on in the present.
“I have lived in Izmir for 6 years”. This means: I started living in Izmir in the past, 6 years ago.
and I still live in Izmir.
“We have seen 3 movies this week.” This means: This week we saw three movies, but this
week is not over yet. Maybe we are going to see some more movies until the end of this week.
2-We use the present perfect.to describe a life experience.
I have eaten sushi : I ate sushi in the past (I had this experience). The time is not important here.
Affirmative Negative Question

I / You / We / They I have eaten sushi I haven’t eaten sushi. Have I eaten sushi?

Time expressions

A: Is Adam going to buy a new car? B: No, he isn't. He has already bought it.
Just : We use "just" to express a recently completed action.
I have just finished my homework.
Yet : We use "yet" in questions and negative sentences and it suggests a time later than
expected.
Have you done your homework? No, I haven't done it yet.
Ever : We use "ever" in questions:
Have you ever been to the United States?
Never: We use "never" in affirmative sentences: but the meaning is negative.
