Title: the role of green building in reducing global warming , environmental effect & enhancing human health in
Egypt & the opportunities & challenges facing Egypt to go green .
Introduction:
Climate change has been identified as an environmental and human crisis of the twenty-first century, which led to
public, political, and academic attention being devoted to the issue of global warming and climate change.
Egypt is highly vulnerable to climate change, with projected increase in heat waves, dust storms, storms along the
Mediterranean coast and extreme weather events. Stronger warming has been documented over the past 30 years,
with average annual temperatures increasing by 0.53 degree Celsius per decade. The country’s climate risks are
and will impact the younger generations of today.
Crucially, the awareness of the importance of climate change action both domestically and at the global level is fast
increasing in Egypt. The country is at a turning point in its commitment and action to tackle the consequences of
climate change. In the 2030 Vision and sustainable development strategy, Egypt has also made commitments to
integrate climate change in national development policies and to progressively green its budget across sectors.
For this problem we will discuss how Green Buildings Help to Combat Climate Change.
At first let we know more about green buildings.
Green buildings are buildings that designed to reduce or eliminates negative impacts and have a positive effect on
climate and natural environment. Green buildings work to slow down the effects of climate change in two main
ways. First, they are more energy-efficient Second, green buildings can help to promote green communities
Green buildings are different from traditional buildings, Here are some common characteristics of green buildings:
1. Energy Efficiency: Green buildings are designed to minimize energy consumption through various strategies,
such as efficient insulation, advanced windows, energy-efficient lighting, and high-performance HVAC systems.
They often incorporate renewable energy sources like solar panels to generate clean energy
2. Sustainable Material Selection: Green buildings prioritize using sustainable and environmentally friendly
materials. These materials are often sourced locally, have low embodied energy, and can be recycled or reused
at the end of their lifecycle
3. Site Selection and Land Use: Green buildings are situated in locations that reduce environmental impact, such
as redeveloped sites, areas with existing infrastructure, or locations with access to public transportation to
minimize urban sprawl and car dependency.
4. Waste Reduction: Green buildings incorporate waste reduction strategies during construction and operation.
This includes recycling construction materials, implementing waste management plans, and encouraging
occupants to recycle.
5. Biodiversity and Green Spaces: Green buildings may incorporate green spaces and green roofs to promote
biodiversity and enhance the urban environment, providing habitats for local flora and fauna
6. Occupant Comfort and Well-being: Green buildings prioritize occupant comfort and well-being by providing
ample natural light, comfortable temperature levels, and spaces that promote physical and mental health
7. Certification and Standards: Green buildings often seek third-party certification through rating systems like LEED
(Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) or BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental
Assessment Method). These certifications ensure that the building meets specific sustainability criteria.
Overall, the main goal of green buildings is to create environmentally responsible structures that positively impact
both the natural environment and the well-being of the people who use them.
This research aims to explore the influence of green buildings on Egypt's environment and its inhabitants, with a
focus on energy efficiency, resource conservation, indoor air quality, and overall occupant satisfaction.
Research Statement:
This research seeks to explore and evaluate the impact of green buildings on both the environment and human
well-being in the context of Egypt & the availability to establish green buildings in Egypt . By examining various
green building features and their benefits, the willingness of developers to invest in construct green buildings , the
community’s readiness to change the way its thinks about home buildings characteristics & identifying the
opportunities & challenges facing the Egyptian community to have green buildings .
Research Objectives:
-Analyze the impact of green buildings on the health and well-being of residents and their quality of life.
- Analyzing the impact of green buildings on the environment in Egypt
- Studying the use of natural resources and energy in green buildings and their effectiveness in improving
sustainability
- Assess the status of green buildings in Egypt
- Identify barriers to adopting among developers , owners , occupants
- Highlight opportunities to increase green building practices
Research Questions:
- What is the impact of green buildings on environmental sustainability in Egypt?
- What is the current level of knowledge awareness and adoption of green buildings in Egypt?
- What are the main barriers and challenges faced in the adoption of green building technologies and policies in
Egypt, and how can they be addressed?
