Reflective Paper

By Salwa Quresh 10CJ

My first team project in GP consisted of three members. Our topic was Poverty and
Inequality.
And our research question was “ How does poverty affect the education of children in
developing countries”. We held a secondary research and this project took approximately ten
days to complete.

My personal contribution in this project was that

I made the most contribution in choosing the topic and making the research question. I also
made the baseline for the objectives and guided my teammate in finalising them. I
contributed to making the whole outcome by myself in the form of a video. I could have done
slides but I wanted to try something different and test my abilities. I would constantly help my
teammates if they needed help in the work assigned to them.

The strengths of our group was that we communicated quite well. We respected each other’s
opinions and considered them into our plan. Everyone had different ideas and it helped us to
come up with the best one. We would sit and discuss our plan during lessons or would even
stay in touch on our socials to make sure we are on track. All the members were fulfilling
their tasks to their best ability. There was good coordination among us and we knew how to
resolve a disagreement in a respectful way. If we had any queries we would make sure to
ask our teacher and get his help on the way. This way our team was able to make sure that
we are supervised and working correctly.

Our weaknesses as a group was that the work was not evenly divided. For example there
were three members and I was assigned to do the outcome and another member was
assigned to make the team element. Which left the third member with no work and
contribution in the team project. She just sat and did very little work. There was a lack of
responsibility. We had to constantly remind each other about our work and there was not
much enthusiasm within the group. One member felt lazy and even refused to do a task
assigned or help the other teammate. This created a little disturbance in the peace and
harmony of the group.

I personally learnt many things by participating in this team project. First of all I experienced
some changes in my character, for example I learnt to be more patient. I learnt to be more
tolerant towards other people and to respect their opinions and point of views. I understood
that people can have different perspectives and that they can disagree with you which is
acceptable. I acquired the knowledge to communicate well with other people and learnt to
deliver my opinions well. I also learnt that I need to choose my partners wisely. This helped
me to bring a change in my academics as now I am more patient in completing my
assignments and do not rush things. I learnt how to conduct effective research and this will
help me in my academics.

Some improvements that I would like to do for the future is that I will try to assign a fair share
of work among the teammates. I will make sure they are participating in the discussions and
their opinions are highlighted. To make this more effective I will make a progress plan and
write down the certain tasks assigned to each member. This way it will be clear for us to see
who got more and less work. Another suggestion I would give is to assign deadlines to the
members who were assigned certain tasks. This will be a good check on the time of our
project and we will be easily able to handle the time limit of our plan.
