OUR PROFILE: INTRODUCING OURSELVES
DAV College was established in 1918 in the sacred memory of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati to
impart modern knowledge along with the Vedic traditions to the youth of contemporary India. Entering
its 108th year, DAV College, Jalandhar, has made a name for itself as a leading academic institution in
this region of the nation, offering unparalleled services for the development and upbringing of young
people.
Under the directions of the Founding Fathers' missionary zeal and visionary approach, the college is
always improving, and updating itself to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing global environment.
With globalization and advancements in the social, technological, economic, and political landscape, it
is essential that we learn new ways of thinking and new concepts of perceiving reality. This transition
towards a new world order urges us to ‘Innovate’. At DAV, we continuously embrace challenges,
identify opportunities, and implement changes to promote growth. We are committed to transforming
the current educational systems into a universal and comprehensive model, thereby ensuring that every
student becomes a ‘global’ student.
DAV College Jalandhar is currently one of the biggest educational institutions in North India offering
courses in Arts, Science, Commerce, Computer Science, Food Science & Technology, and Media
Studies. The college has received recognition from the Department of Science & Technology, Ministry
of Science & Technology, New Delhi, under the DST-FIST Scheme. Additionally, our college is
acknowledged under the DBT-Star College Scheme by the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of
Science & Technology, New Delhi.
ABOUT PG DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS
Department of Physics was established in 1925 with the introduction of F. Sc. (Non-Medical) under the
Chairmanship of Prof. A.K Soni. In the year 1999, under the Headship of Prof. S.C Kakkar and with
the sincere efforts of Principal Subhash Kumar, Post-graduation was introduced in the Department of
Physics. This Department was the first among all colleges in the State to start the M.Sc. in Physics.
The Department of Physics is facilitated with well-equipped labs, library, seminar hall and research lab.
The faculty members of Department of Physics are highly qualified and actively participating in
research development activities. Four research projects (1 major and 3 minor) have been successfully
completed by faculty members and two research project is still going on. Three students successfully
completed their doctoral degrees by using departmental research facilities.
The Department of Physics received grant from DST under FIST scheme (2009-2015). The Department
of Physics is presently supported by DBT Star College Scheme, Government of India. The Department
has been organizing Conferences/Workshops/Seminars in various topics such as High-energy Physics,
Material science, Transport phenomena in Low-dimensional systems, and research methodologies in
Physics.
ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
On September 18–19, 2024, the DAV College in Jalandhar organised a National Conference on
"Frontiers in Theoretical & Experimental Physics". As part of our continuing initiative towards building
a knowledge pool, we at the DAV College, Jalandhar, are organizing 2nd National Conference on
“Frontiers in Theoretical & Experimental Physics” on September 11-12, 2025. The Conference will act
as a bridge for scholarly interactions among academicians and researchers of Theoretical and
Experimental Physics. The Conference shall provide an opportunity to present and observe the latest
research findings and discuss future challenges in physics research.
The aim of the conference is:
To establish a platform that will enable researchers, students, and theoretical and experimental
physicists to share the most recent developments in various fields of physics, including; Astro Physics,
High-Energy Physics, Quantum Technology, Nuclear & Radiation Physics, Biophysics, Material
Science etc. This will potentially accelerate scientific collaboration and networking for scientific
advancement.
To give young students a national platform to showcase their creative work and novel concepts early
in their careers. Expert speakers from various disciplines of physics can inspire fresh ideas among the
students attending the conference. Students' perspectives on the theoretical and experimental facets of
physics can be expanded by the information they gain from conferences.
To create opportunities for the next generation workforce to develop their professional skills.
