 Values help us to organize our activities


 Strengthen interpersonal relationships
 Determined by culture, beliefs, and behavioural patterns

Problems encountered when introducing Values in school

 Problems related to knowledge: What is the right type of knowledge to be imparted


 Economic problems: How could students be prepared for the future to cope with the
world market
 Environment related problems: How can the future be changed when limited resources
are extinct
 Problems related to excellence: When determining efficiency in schools, what activities
and evaluation methods should be considered

 Attention has to be paid to rapid advancement of information technology

 Leaders had the courage to break stereotypes and narrow-minded thoughts of society

 Dramatics are an essential part of school curriculum


 Inspiring instances from lives of leaders showing determination, courage, selflessness can
be staged or narrated
 Inspirational movies can be shown to leave a lasting effect on young minds
 Social sciences teach about society
 Debates and discussions are conducted frequently during these lessons
 These teach values like inclusiveness, positive interaction, tolerance, participation, and
respect despite differences of opinion

Why?

 Circle time is important as students get a chance to express their feelings


 Teacher can stir minds and help students recognize and express thoughts
 Example: Teaching truthfulness by asking how students feel when they speak the truth or
don’t speak the truth
 Ask what stops them from speaking the truth
 Ask if they feel proud when saying “I’m truthful, I’m honest”
 Teacher should create an affable environment for students to share ideas fearlessly
 Field visits to orphanages and old age homes present a true picture of society
 Sensitives students towards less fortunate individuals
 Students can be encouraged to donate items like books, shirts, or toys
 Helps students share happiness with less privileged
 Teaches sharing, helpfulness, and gratitude for what they possess

 Many scientists believed the unbelievable and achieved the unachievable


 Their lives show enormous determination and tireless efforts
 While teaching science, teachers should encourage students to learn about lives of various
scientists
 Can be done as part of a project
 During group activities, stress the significance of cooperation, acceptance, and
inclusiveness
 Assemblies can be conducted on different values
 Students can showcase importance of values through dance, drama, music, etc.

 Games are an important tool used by the teacher


 Teacher can be innovative and create own games to achieve learning aims
 Example: Students can be asked to mention one positive thing about their partner
 Helps students to see positivity in others and reduce focus on faults and negativity

 Optimism can be inculcated in students through the teacher’s efforts


 Teacher should keep students motivated with her thoughts, words, and actions
 Teacher must practice what she preaches as she is a role model
