Formulas in Excel

Descriptive type Questions.

Answer the following Question.

A.What is Circular Referance?Explain with Example

A reference in which a formula refers to its own value is called a
circular reference.
Example:if we enter the formula =A1+A2+A3 in cell A1, every time it
calculates the formula in cell A1, it must be calculated again because
A1 has changed.

B.Write steps to find LCM of three numbers.(long)

• Click Math & Trig and then select LCM
• Enter any values in the Number1 , Number2 and Number3 text
boxes, respectively.
• Click OK. The output will appear in cell selected cell.

C.Write two ways of entering a cell referance in formula by

typing and by pointing
Typing: we select a cell and enter the formula in the cell or in the
Formula Bar and press Enter once we are done entering the formula
Pointing: we select a cell and type `=’ and instead of typing the rest
of the formula we click on the cell to which the reference has to be
made.

D. What will you do to display formula after calculated values?

To see the formula we have to select the cell in which the formula is
entered. The formula is displayed in the Formula Bar when the cell is
selected. Or select show formula option from the tab, it will display
all the formulas in sheet.

E. Name different arithmetic operators in excel.

Multiplication, exponent, subtraction, addition, and division

F.Write down method of calculate the values in excel.

The two ways of creating a sheet using the formula bar or Autosum
feature. In formula Bar The user has to type in the cell numbers to
which the formula applies. By using the Autosum feature, the user
does not have to type in the cell numbers individually instead we can
select a range.
G. Working of Relative, Mixed, and Absolute Cell References in
Excel

There are 3 types of cell references:

1. Relative Reference: This changes when you copy the formula

to another cell.Example: In cell B2: =A1 + 5 If you copy this formula
to cell B3, it changes to =A2 + 5. Excel adjusts the reference
automatically.
2. Absolute Reference This does not change when you copy the
formula.
You use the dollar sign $ to lock the cell. Example: In cell B2:
=$A$1 + 5 If you copy it anywhere, it always uses A1.
3. Mixed Reference : This locks either the row or the column
only.
Example: $A1 → Column A is fixed, row can change A$1 → Row 1 is
fixed, column can change ,This is useful when copying formulas
across a table.
G. Explain the Working of Concatenation

Concatenation means joining two or more text values together.

We use the & symbol Example If A1 has "Hello" and B1 has "World"
Formula: = (A1& " "& B1) gives in C1: Hello World
