1. How does Katniss react to Peeta's declaration of love?
Katniss is shocked and confused at Peeta’s declaration of love at the interview. She
blushes and feels embarrassed because she had no idea he would say something
like that. After that, she becomes angry because she thinks he made her look weak.
When Peeta steps down from his car after the interview, Katniss pushes him into
an urn and yells at him.
2. What does Peeta mean when he says "I want to die as myself"?
When Peeta says, “I want to die as myself,” he doesn't want the Hunger Games to
change who he is. He worries that the Capitol will turn him into a monster. One
detail is, "While I’ve been ruminating on the availability of trees, Peeta has been
struggling with how to maintain his identity. His purity of self."
3. What is injected under Katniss's skin before the Games? Why?
A tracking device is inserted inside Katniss’s forearm before the Games. This lets
the Capitol keep track of her whereabouts and location in the arena. This way, the
Capitol can make sure none of the tributes escape or go missing during the Hunger
Games.
Chapter Eleven:
4. What is the "Cornucopia"? Why is it important? What does Katniss take from
the Cornucopia?
The “Cornucopia” is a large horn-shaped structure in the center of the Hunger
Games arena filled with supplies that tributes need. It is important as the tributes
gather materials they need for the games and the most amount of killings happen
there. Katniss grabs a backpack that contains a sleeping bag, food, iodine for
purifying water, wooden matches, coil of wire, sunglasses, and an empty water
bottle.
5. What big surprise does Katniss get at the end of Chapter 11?
Katniss gets a big surprise at the end of Chapter 11 when she realizes Peeta is
allied with the Career Tributes, who are arrogant and ruthless. Katniss learns this
when she sees Peeta telling the Career Tributes that he will finish off the girl from
District 8. She feels betrayed that Peeta was teaming up with the Career Tributes
because she thought Peeta was kind and noble. She wonders if he had been
deceiving her and questions his intentions.
Chapter Twelve:
6. How are the Career Tributes using Peeta?
The Career tributes are using Peeta to lead him to Katniss. One detail is, ““Besides,
he’s our best chance of finding her.” It takes me a moment to register that the “her”
they’re referring to is me.” They think he knows about Katniss and her skills
because he confessed his love for her in the interview. Another detail is, ““Let him
tag along. What’s the harm? And he’s handy with that knife.”
7. Make a prediction. What do you think will happen next to Katniss and Peeta?

I predict that Katniss and Peeta will end up forming an alliance together. One piece
of evidence is Because she can use a bow and arrow. Which Peeta knows better
than anyone. But he hasn’t told them yet. Another piece of evidence is, ‘“He made
you look desirable! And let’s face it, you can use all the help you can get in that
department. You were about as romantic as dirt until he said he wanted you. Now
they all do. You’re all they’re talking about. The star-crossed lovers from District
Twelve!” says Haymitch.’ This piece of evidence means that this will help them to
get sponsors, so they need to display the image as star crossed lovers by working
together.
