This is a scan of the first page of the original manuscript of Imogen

Holst’s carol, Cherry, Holly, and Ivy, which is held in the Archive at
The Red House.
We are delighted that our Head of Philanthropy, James Hobson, will
be performing it tomorrow with the quartet of Holy Trinity, Sloane
Street, live on BBC Radio 3 on Petroc Trelawny’s Christmas Morning
Live. The broadcast starts at 9.30am, and the quartet will be singing
and chatting for the first 45 minutes of the show.

‘Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the

Michael Staniforth, born on 15 December 1942 in Selly Oak,

Birmingham, was a distinguished British stage and television actor
whose career spanned both the UK and Australia. At 21, he emigrated
to Australia, where he performed in numerous musicals, including
"South Pacific" and "The Boy Friend".
Upon returning to England in the late 1960s, Staniforth's West End
debut was in "Hair" at the Shaftesbury Theatre. He continued to
showcase his versatility in productions such as "Two Gentlemen of
Verona" and "Winnie the Pooh". In 1977, he portrayed Paul in the
original British cast of "A Chorus Line" and later took on the role of
Tobias in Stephen Sondheim's "Sweeney Todd" at the Theatre Royal,
Drury Lane.
Staniforth's most iconic role was Timothy Claypole, a mischievous
medieval poltergeist, in the BBC children's series "Rentaghost",
which aired from 1976 to 1984. His energetic portrayal, coupled with
his contribution as the performer of the show's theme tune, left a
lasting impression on audiences.
In 1984, he originated the role of CB the Red Caboose in Andrew
Lloyd Webber's musical "Starlight Express" in London, further
cementing his status in the theatre community.
Tragically, Michael Staniforth's life was cut short when he passed
away from an AIDS-related illness on 31 July 1987 at the age of 44.
His contributions to theatre and television continue to be
remembered and celebrated.

Sweden's iconic prinsesstårta ("princess cake") features pastry

cream and raspberry layered between vanilla sponge, topped with a
dome of slightly-sweet whipped cream, all covered in green
marzipan.

The cake is pretty much always green.

Jenny Åkerström, a 20th-century Swedish baking expert, is behind

the now-classic treat and its unusual hue. Her first recipe for what
resembles prinsesstårta appears in 1948—and it's literally named
"grön tårta" (green cake), no ment… See more

THE VASARI CORRIDOR REOPENS ON DECEMBER 21. A SURPRISING

WALK OVER FLORENCE FOR THOSE VISITING THE UFFIZI
Finally, after eight long years of closure, the Vasari Corridor of the
Uffizi reopens in Florence, one of the most fascinating and historic
attractions in Florence: the appointment to be set in the calendar is
for December 21, 2024. This “aerial tunnel”, built in 1565 by the
architect Giorgio Vasari, has always had a practical purpose: to allow
the rulers of the city to m… See more
