Personal statement

During my time as an undergraduate student at mbarara university of science and technology

Community Based Education Research and Service Program (COBRS) where we students where
place in different communities, I became increasingly aware of the complex public health
problems faced by people of Uganda. Looking at the gaps in our health system made me realise
there is a lot that can be enacted for the betterment of the health status in the country. I
genuinely think that with the vast solutions the course of public health can offer and my
education background, zealous commitment to cause, it is possible to cause the change that is
needed and therefore the need to do public health.

There is increasing emergence of antibiotics resistance duy to uncessary use of antibiotics for
preventable diseases and as a person in the profession of pharmacy, I stand in the better
position to address the emergence of this resistance through the knowledge and skills that can
be acquired from public health. I'm also interested in working and serving my community and
putting the interest o the health of the public first. With the love to explore and tamp the
untamped potential in me and the knowledge gap that exists diseases and their prevention, and
so by doing public health, it would bridge the his knowledge and skills gap. There is need to see
health programs secced in Uganda that have otherwise failed because of miss management by
those in-charge.

With the work experience like working with sustain Uganda- an HIV/AIDs program fortportal,
volunteering at infectious disease institute (IDI) in mbale in dispensing and providing
pharmaceutical information to patients, and the responsibility I carry as a pharmacist at
Ecopharm ltd; to head and manage one of the pharmacy branches. I'm also an enterprenure
with the position of a director and manager in-charge of the day- to- day activities of Favour
pharmacy with the responsibility of managing and implementing policies, monitoring and
evaulating them, it gives me a lot of experience in human resource management, organisational
management, research, policy making, data collection and reporting, and problem solving etc. I
believe all this has prepard me well enough to under take a masters in public health.

I believe that my studies in Public health at Makerere school of public health will enlighten my
perception of current health issues of public health and provide me with knowledge and skills
necessary to avert preventable health concerns.

My work experience can be less seen as a disadvertage to some as slightly expected than others
but I my skill set, demand by my work challenges and my personal determination so far puts me
in a strong position to do the course.

I shall be be grateful and fruitful to see committee entrusting me to do the course
