Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow:
Once there were two friends, Tortoise and snail, who were both full of tricks. Their friendship was so sweet
that neither would fall asleep when the other was absent. Tortoise was a former and snail a trader. One day
snail declared that he wanted to plant a farm of maize. Tortoise was not happy but offered to help. He gave
snail some boiled corns to plant but these never grew. Snail tried another piece of land but the seeds fared no
better there too.
In the end, he discovered the trick and swore to have his revenge. Snail asked his mother to pretend
that she was dead.
He invited Tortoise to the burial but what they buried was only a banana trunk wrapped in cloth. Some days
later, he asked Tortoise to come and pray at his motehr‟s tomb. Snail‟s mother was hiding behind the tomb.
As Tortoise was paying, the mother threw some monkey which Tortoise collected greedily.
Tortoise wanted to know how snail‟s mother came by all the monkey and snail explained that dead mothers
usually showered money upon their sons. Tortoise got excited and rushed home. He brought lots of food and
wine to his mother. He expected her to consume everything and then die.
